So Jesus said "Follow my example."

What's some stuff he did that we should follow? I have a specific answer in mind but I wanna get some general thoughts first before I drop the bomb so to speak...

Also please back up your thoughts with verses. Thank you!

I have no specific verse to post but I follow Jesus example in everything he did. He amazes me and astonishes me as I consider who he is and how he walked on earth. I mean he is the king od kings the Lord of Lords God all mighty and yet he lowered himself to serve us to save us to suffer for us and to beaten by his own children. When I used to ask God what it truly meant to be strong what real strength is I began to see what it means to be and what true strength simply by looking at Jesus. I saw how caring he was how full of grace he was how far he was willing to go for the least of us how he always was about father and about us never himself I mean honestly he so much different and so much more amazing than what I expected when I became a Christian and so since I admire and adore who his is so much I love to try to imitated him in every way all the time like a child does to a mother or father

He, as God, inspired Paul to write many things, including 1 Timothy 2:12.

The ENTIRE life of Jesus WAS the EXAMPLE He set for us to follow............Start with Matthew, first Verse, and end with John, last Verse. He lived the EXAMPLE that He set for us.

Can you expand on this a bit more?

Jesus loved God and men, he came to serve others, and he sought to do the will of his father

Why would it need explaining? His ENTIRE LIFE was the example we are to follow. Read the 4 Gospels to learn HOW He lived his life............ :) There is no ONE VERSE that reveals the example.............the closest would be His statement of the Two Greatest Commandments..........but even they do not cover ALL of the example He lived and we are to follow.

It needs explaining because I think some stuff may have gotten lost in the shuffel...Jesus kept all the jewish feast days and the sabbath and the ten commandments. So what about us if we are to follow his example? What are your thoughts on this?

Hi,

I can no longer follow Christ's sacrifice at Calvary, I can no longer follow Christ for the miracles He did. I can no longer follow Christ when He raised the dead and I can no longer follow Christ fulfilling the Law, because He already did that to me, as a sinner saved by Grace. No, Christ did not say we are to follow his example, we must follow HIM. :)

Be blessed!

This is all valid questions but like PR said this will turn into a law vs grace thread so quickly our heads will spin :)

This is something you should establish with your covenant with Christ. How far are we willing to go in following the King of kings?

Following the Sabbath, following the Jewish feast days, following the ten commandments.. All examples of works for salvation. We're not saved based on works (I did this, and I did this, and I followed this.). We're saved by grace though faith. We still follow Christ and His teaching, but it's Him that's our primary focus. Not the law. That's what the Pharisees were all about.

Well that is where I will disagree with you because the law was never given to mankind for salvation but for relationship. This is abundantly clear from scripture (even in the NT)...

So now you are sitting with a predicament, why did God give us the law...and why was it so important that Jesus kept it to the last little dot?

Agreed, it's important that we remember that there is really no ONE particular verse that is, in and of itself, to be made into a complete "doctrine."

You've already turned this into a law/grace thread.

The law was given to condemn man, and to provide the legal framework for the execution of justice. Also, to guide him in the way of righteousness.

Jesus said...If you love Me. You know the rest. Matthew 10:41,He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. Matthew 15:24,But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
[SUP]34 [/SUP]And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.
[SUP]35 [/SUP]And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.
[SUP]36 [/SUP]Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise.
[SUP]37 [/SUP]But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.
[SUP]38 [/SUP]But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.
[SUP]39 [/SUP]And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.
[SUP]40 [/SUP]When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen? Matthew 21:34-40

Jesus lived in dependence upon the indwelling Father, abiding in Him, and the Father worked in and through Him. In the same way we are now to live in dependence upon the indwelling Christ, abiding in Him, and He works in us and through us.

"The Son can do nothing of Himself; ...the Father shows the Son all things that He Himself is doing" (John 5:19,20)
"I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge..." (John 5:30)
"I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself has given Me...what to say, and what to speak" (John 12:49) "The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works" (John 14:10)

"Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me" (John 15:4)

"I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5 )

What then was the purpose of the law? It was added because of transgression until the seed to whom the promise referred had come. Gal3:19

I love the way the living bible puts it.

The law was given to keep us in protective custody till the coming of Christ

That would be my response, but I didn't want to continue this to turn into another "Law" thread.
