Lately I've been confused about this one thing. Don't we all come from Adam? If so, why some are Gentiles and others are Jews? When did Jews become Jews? I don't know OT so good yet so I'd like an explanation, something small that explains it.

P.S.- Please, don't post long texts because there's a high probability I won't read it.

God bless!

Jews are people who descend from Judah who was the son of Israel(otherwise known as Jacob...Jacob tricked his twin brother Esau, but that is another story... they were children of Isaac, who was the son of Abraham... I think you know who Abraham was... Gentiles is a term used for anyone who does not belong to the tribes of Israel: anyone who can not trace their blood lines to Jacob.... hope that helps...

This family tree will help. Click Here

Jews are descended from Abraham and come through the line of Jacob. He came from Ur of the Chaldes and there were lots more people around, other nations in fact. Anyone who isn't a Jew is a Gentile, like me. :)

Muslims are descended from Esau.

But, praise God we can all be Christians.

Jew - two defenitions.

1. of the tribe of judah, one of the 12 sons of Jocob later named Israel
2. Of the southern kingdom of Isreal after the split. Which would include jerusalem. Included people from the tribes of judah and benjamin, also included representatives of the other ten tribes who did not break away with Isreal (the northern kingdom) when it split and went into rebellion)

Gentile. also called nations. represent all people who are not naturally descended from jacob, later names Isreal.

this would include all the other sons of abraham (ishmael) and Issac (esau)

I'm working from memory and it is too late to change it, I hate only having five minutes. If my memory has let me down I apologise.

What was it about the two twins then, Jacob and Esau?

Yes memory is coming back, it was Ishmael through the concubine.

But didn't God tell Abraham that he would have lots of children? (something about nations), so aren't we gentiles from him too?

If you look at the family tree Jacob, who was descended from Abraham, had 12 descendents, those 12 are the twelve tribes of Israel and they developed into nations who spread across the world. It is possible some of us could be descended from Abraham, but it is impossible to know really. Some people do say they are.

So yes, from Abraham descended many nations.

But there were other people as well as Abraham and we could be descended from them, we don't really know.

physically no (unless you can trace your ancestory back to one of his other children)

Spiritually yes, through Christ (his seed)

Shyforhim, the story of Noah is where the flood took place and Noah and his three sons with thier wifes were saved along with the animals
Then we have a record of The three sons Ham Shem and Japeth, The descendents from Shem is where we get Abraham
Genesis 11:10[ The Line of Descent from Shem to Abram ] This is the account of Shem’s family. Two years after the great flood, when Shem was 100 years old, he became the father of Arphaxad.
Galatians 3:14Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith.
Does this help?

Jews are those that come from the tribe of Judah, which was one of the 12 tribes of the nation of Israel.

Gentiles are a nation of people that come from the lineage of one of Noah's sons, Japheth;

Gen.10
[1] Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.
[2] The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.
[3] And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.
[4] And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
[5] By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

So Gentiles is not just someone that is not a Jew...they are a nation of people whose beginning started with Noah's son Japheth. Japheth is the father of the Japhetic race.

Now concerning the Jews, God tells us that not only the Jews but the entire nation of Israel would be cursed, and these curses would be a sign to let the world know who the true Jews/Israelites are.

God's curses are yet upon them;

Deut.28
[15] But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
[46] And they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon thy seed for ever.

Let's read some of those curses that are YET on the true Jews/Israelites;

God said Israel would be a weak nation!

Deut.28:25
[25] thou shalt go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before them:
[44] he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail.

God said Israel would be borrowers and NOT lenders of money!

Deut.28:44
[44] He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him.

God said Israel would occupy prisons!

Isa.42
[22] But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses

God’s word says that wherever Israel finds herself, in whatever nation, it will not be good for her!

Deut.28
[16] Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.
[17] Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store.
[18] Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
[19] Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
[20] The LORD shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me.

God told us these signs would be on the true nation of Israel so that they would be known...not hid!

Deut.28
[45] Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee:
[46] And they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon thy seed for ever.

These curses are yet on the true nation of Israel!

You want to know who is a Jew? Look for the signs that were given by God!

Do those that call themselves Jews/Israelites have the signs that God said would be upon her and her seed forever?

Something to think about!

its not really important anymore who your physical ancestors are but who your Spiritually following. Abraham's spiritual descendents are those who believe in his Seed who is Christ Jesus. the genealogy was important because the prophecy of JESUS coming from the line of Judah, via David. Its mainly about Jesus, but some people will try and convince you differently...

Read your Bible, it explains everything. If you find it confusing or hard to understand, then the next time someone comes to your door to offer a lesson how to use the Bible, take a minute to learn. Like everything else, we must take time to learn what we want to know. Knowledge doesn't just jump into your head and asking others for the answers often leads to misinformation. Questions about God and why or how he does the things he does are answered by him and Christ.

Scientists are doing research with DNA that may enable them to tell us our ethnic origin, but as far as tracing our family tree back it is well nigh impossible. This is why the Jews were circumcised, so they could be identified, you may read about it seeing as you are reading about Abraham, it is mentioned there, I just cannot remember the chapter.

If you can't find it, just ask. :)

trying to keep my posts short lol, its a challenge for me....
[h=3]Romans 2:28-29[/h]New King James Version (NKJV)

[SUP]28 [/SUP]For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; [SUP]29 [/SUP]but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.
the verses above show that its the inward heart that matters not the flesh. not your parents but if you have a humble and contrite heart seeking to know God and learn His wisdom through perseverance: learning patience, gentleness, and self control.

Here Jesus tells them that they may be fleshly descendents of Abraham but they are the seed of Satan and not the spiritual descendents of God or Abraham.....................John 8
[h=3][/h][SUP]37 [/SUP]“I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. [SUP]38 [/SUP]I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with[SUP][l][/SUP] your father.”
[SUP]39 [/SUP]They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.”
Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham. [SUP]40 [/SUP]But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this. [SUP]41 [/SUP]You do the deeds of your father.”
Then they said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; we have one Father—God.”
[SUP]42 [/SUP]Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. [SUP]43 [/SUP]Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. [SUP]44 [/SUP]You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. [SUP]45 [/SUP]But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. [SUP]46 [/SUP]Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? [SUP]47 [/SUP]He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”

Here is the covenant God made with Abraham. Genesis 17. According to this I am not of Jewish origin or I would have been circumcised.

9 Then God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come. 10 This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. 12 For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring. 13 Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant. 14 Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.”
