That's interesting where in the scriptures do you find that ?

When you say Torah what does that include? Some Jews say it contains the written commandments as well as oral commandments both equally authoritative

Today we have the whole book of the law, the Bible containing 66 books that we are to study. So what was the point, was it that kings studied the scriptures?

"And when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law,
approved by the Levitical priests.
And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life,
that he may learn to fear YHVH his God
by keeping all the words of this law and these statutes, and doing them,

Deuteronomy 17:18-19 (ESV2011, MBM)

It does not say with the approved of the Leviticus priest. That kind of ideology would be the Torah .simply a private interpretation of men.called a "law of the fathers" (Christ's nemesis) . We are to call no man father on earth, one is our Father in heaven.

The Levites had a copy of the written law which again did not include the private interpretations of the fathers as mere oral traditions of men .It would seem you are defending the wrong source of faith .Rather than defending the faith of Christ, as the same spirit of faith according as it is written .You like the Catholics defend the faith of the fathers as a measuring tool coming from mere sinful men. Same error different fathers.

Deu 17:18 And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites:

Just how and where did those paraphrasers get the words; “approved by the Levitical priests”. Scripture informs us in 2 Timothy we are to seek the approval of God. Can we serve two masters?

2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Are the priest in the place of God, or are we instructed that we do not need a man to teach us because as it (scripture) teaches us we are to abide in Him?

can you post the passage where it says we need no man to teach us, with the surrounding verses?

If I were plugging those publishers, don't you think I'd attach a link directly to their store pages?
I mentioned they only sell KJV so if anyone wanted to search them out and they don't like the KJV they wouldn't waste their time. The FB page I mentioned in my post was a suggestion that popped up on FB. Why are you so dang suspicious? I offer some information (that folks can use or ignore) and you start up with accusations? I really don't understand that mindset, especially in a Christian forum.

did I hit a bad note? hmmmmm

you are so easy to tease........

maybe you were just in the mood to hand out a spanking?

Thanks...Sure I can try but you did not answer my question as to, just how and where did those paraphrasers get the words; “approved by the Levitical priests”?

We are not to add to the scriptures it can take away the original meaning and intent of the author .

Scripture informs us in 2 Timothy we are to seek the approval of God. Can we serve two masters?

The warning is to those who would try and seduce us Christians to be led away into error and sin, after the father of lies...

It’s a clear warning in respect to the ideology of the antichrists who were there alongside the Christians , the name Christ calls us .The new name God named His people. Because of the reformation which restored the order of new government...with no fleshly outward representative.

Here is one verse in context.

Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. 1Jo 2:18-24

The warning begins with a promise.(not a work we could do)

And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.1Jo 2:25

The warning in respect to the antichrist’s

These things have I written unto you concerning
them that “seduce you”. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall “abide in him”. 1Jo 2:25-26

I recently stumbled upon a Facebook page who's purpose is to make fun of anyone who buys expensive Bibles. They post photos of raggedy, paperback, cheaply made Bibles and brag about how little they cost. I guess they feel that this is a more important subject than to preach the gospel to the unsaved.

I understand how there are those who make an idol out of their super expensive Bibles, but I don't see why someone would take the time to create a FB page saying "if you spend more than $20 for a Bible you're an idol maker".

If anyone wants a very high quality Bible for a reasonable price, check out Local Church Bible Publishers. Another good publisher is Bearing Precious Seed. One caveat - they only sell KJV.

Agree.......and, if anyone really wants to spread the Gospel for a "reasonable price," I suggest they donate to the Gideon's. Those guys put a LOT of Bibles in a LOT of places, and those Bibles have changed a LOT of lives!

Yes, you did.

I offer information to those that might be interested and instead of adding to the conversation with information of your own, you instead choose to make a smart remark. How is anyone edified by that? The OP wasn't about King James Only of which you accuse me. Anyone who've
read my posts already knows that although I prefer the KJV myself, I do not preach KJO.

As a former USMC Drill Instructor and a retired state prison correctional officer, if I felt the need to "hand out a spanking", there'd be no doubt in anyone's mind that I was doing so. Why not try contributing to the discussion instead of being a member of the peanut gallery?

I could point you to some REAL serious issues in people's lives...heartbreaking and real...that ARE shocking including one I just found out about this am..and in which I am involved for support

but hey, wouldn't wanna spoil your thread or anything

get real

That offer is most kind of you. There is no way to PM you on your profile so I will respond here. I am cautious about giving my address out to those who I don't really know well, as that would also include my name which I keep private on this site.

Please give this bible out to someone whom you come into contact with locally. I'm sure they would love it. And thank you for your thoughtfulness.

As I have two daughters and a granddaughter plus being retired from law enforcement, I fully understand your concern. Perhaps I could mail it to your church. Either way I greatly appreciate your kind reply.

I use an iPad days for my bible, with a few different versions.
My eyesight isn't what it was and I struggle to read small print for any length of
time. I also have astigmatism in both eyes, (gives me a slight look of intrigue lol) so I
don't read certain fonts too well. So the bible app on my iPad is ideal for resizing the lettering,
changing font, making the page brighter, electronic note taking etc.

Having said that in previous years I have gone out of my way to buy a good
quality leather wide margin bible, to keep all those invaluable notes and
references. Notes of revelation from God, highlighted passages. Links
discovered from one passage to another.

I wanted to keep all those hidden treasures discovered for ever. :)
The iPad just makes that easier these days.

Here's a video that shows it off well.

Only one copy to give away so first come, first served.

God Bless!

I've never had one last that long! But I prefer hardback bibles, so sticking a pen in to mark my place when I can't find a scrap of paper must put pressure on the spine that it isn't made to take. Also, I drop them fairly often as I'm rushing up the stairs or down...but I agree, it is so nice to have that new bible and the smell of new pages and ink with no coffee spills, chocolate smudges, or bird poop. (I sit on the deck to read a lot and the birds don't have much respect for the word of God. ;))

I wouldn't spend more than $20 on a Bible ONLY because I am a cheap SOB. I found a New In Box Bible that is exactly like the one I used to read as a kid (the one my Mom used to hide at the bottom of the closet out of sight), and as much as I'd love to own it, I am too cheap to pony up the $60 to buy it.
You're so funny! I have money issues, so I go for a cheap one too. But cheap hardbacks last longer for me than cheap paperbacks, which the pages seem to start falling out of quicker.

Too those who are financially challenged like me, I can usually find a perfectly good bible at a thrift store. I've even found my two favorites a few times - NASB and NLT!

I sold a nasb on eBay,leather one,for $18.

The guy protested because I had it incorrectly listed as a "life application edition", and he complained to eBay as if scammed or something.

Well guess what? He got a free bible, because by the time I paid shipping both ways,it would be a wash anyway.

I would have rather given it to you.

But what the hey.
