lol. thanks for your opinion. But truth can not cause the bible to contradict.. Thats how you know if you did it right. God gave things so we can know. And that has never been history or men!

No, They were self centered. If you did not believe the way they did, they killed you, Jailed you, Took all your money and property, or sent you to a deserted island so you could do them no harm.

You my friend are blind
I think that u have mixed history.U have to read more and less listen to those who told u that.Or God told u that?

That is absolutely false, Abiding.

Piety is defined as reverence and devotion to God. Show us all now, Abiding, where piety was "nailed as worthless" in the bible, please.
I suggest reading Matthew 6, just before Jesus teaches us how to pray, where he teaches us about living piously.

Also..
Asceticism is defined as extreme self-denial and austerity.

Luke 9:23 might help to get you started.
Then Jesus said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

But you say that this was "nailed as worthless by the bible".

You're spouting ridiculous false teachings based on your obvious misinterpretation of scripture. You have no authority whatsoever to interpret scripture for yourself or anyone else.

I guess one of those so called 30 (I have never seen 30;. it is usually 2 or three. Yet again you like to make things worst than they really are to support your own belief) interpretations would be the roman interpretation.

Which one do we follow? the one of men? or the one of God.

ps.. God is the only judge.

Thus I leave your judgmental attitude to God.

Judgmental attitude? You are one of the most uncharitable persons I have seen on this board. You ridicule Truth and constantly spout false teaching's based on your own personal misinterpretation and misunderstanding of the Word of God.

Settle down maynard. And read what i said about self denial before you pull a muscle.
Ill grab some scriptures while your decompressing that need no interpretation.

Yes i did. Paul took care of that with the gnostic heresy:

“Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations — “Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,” which all concern things which perish with the using — according to the commandments and doctrines of men? These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.” (Colossians 2:20-23, NKJV)

Ok theres your asceticism and theres much more said in the bible on that. Now to your elite pious folk.

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocritesare: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues andin the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men.Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.WEB
“When you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, forthey love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in thecorners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Mostcertainly, I tell you, they have received their reward.

Remember or go look what i responded to and if you cant see the point than dont
post to me.

My point was someone saying that this form of outward behavior is a sign to trust
bible interpretation from someone.

If you do not believe our way, you are wrong

we are the only people who can infallibly interpret

your church has been spreading this hate for almost 2000 years now. not to mention all the murders they commited against people who did not believe the way they did.

sorry, It was found worthless. Non of it can make us right with God.. this is your churches mistake. And by the way, He has just as much authority to interpret scripture as any man. He better interpret it. his eternity depends on it. God did not tell us to listen to men. Even paul refused to do this.

My children and I follow the tradition of lent every year. I encourage them to give up something or help others for 40 days, I find it is good for us to think of others less fortunate and show self control and remember how Christ suffered for us. Most of us take things for granted and forget there are those less fortunate than us. It is good to pause and feel blessed.

Lent is a great season that reminds of repentance but we must repent throughout the year and not only during lent. Have 12 hours fast on bread and water alone and reflect on the stations of the cross and sorrowful mysteries. God bless.

There is no purpose or meaning. That does not make sense. Jesus gave us the tradition to be used to remember his death, That was the communion table of bread and the cup. We are to take often in remembrance of me.

I do read the church fathers, it is called the NT. That is the ONLY things which is inspired by God. the rest are words of men.

First....Let's quote what God's word says correctly;

1 Cor.11

[23] For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
[24] And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

This was done ONLY once a year......NOT as often as they wanted!

[25] After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
[26] For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

God's word does not tell us to remember Him in the above manner on every 1st, 2nd,4th Sunday or whenever we choose as often as we choose! We are to remember Him in the way described above at the appointed time; once a year at Passover.

Next...let's read what was inspired by God;

2 Peter 1
[21] For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Now let's find when prophecy started;

Gen.3
[16] Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
[17] And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
[18] Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
[19] In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

So the word of God has been inspired by the Holy Spirit since Gen.
