I really don't think Esau had a clue as to what he was doing. I often see Esau and Jacob as having characteristics of the "flesh" and the "spirit."

Jacob wrestled with God and prevailed. Jacob had an insatiable desire for the Blessing of God in his life.

From the womb Jacob had wrestled with God and Man for the birthright and blessing of God in his life. Finally, face to face, the battle was over. Jacob limped away with a new name......Israel. No longer would he wrestle, for he had prevailed and God was pleased to bless him. :)
