But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. Matthew 6:20. Notice this in all on US to store treasures in heaven. I've heard some Christians say they are waiting on the LORD to lead them. Jesus is saying, get up off your butts and start storing. You do not sit around waiting. Learn how to store treasures in heaven. Your time on earth is very short.

I think the only place that believers are told wait (tarry) was before Pentecost. People who are waiting on God to move, are going to wait some time …..He has already moved.

I thought I would share the orientalism that go with the three verses.

Mat 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

Mat 6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

Mat 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

The word treasure means thoughts.

Heaven speaks of the realm of the spirit.

Earth is the realm of matter which is material things.

Moth is fear that eats away at our thoughts.

Rust is worries that corrodes and destroys godly positive thoughts

and corrupt means to breed.

The orientalism reads:

19) Let not your thoughts be centered in material things where fears and worries breed defeat and frustration, and where doubts breakthrough and steal your thoughts.

20) But let your thoughts be centered in spirit or spiritual matters… where neither fear nor worry breeds defeat and frustration, and where doubts do not break through and steal your thoughts.

21) For where your thoughts are, there will your heart be also.

Thoughts become Words, Words become Actions, Actions bread Habits, Habits develops Character, Character determines Your Destiny.
Verse 21 says it all ….Your thoughts …will determine your destiny.

I know you'll probably see this as a copout, but why shouldn't we wait on the Lord's leading? Patience is a virtue. I've seen people go off half-cocked and get themselves into real trouble.

I agree, we shouldn't use "waiting on God" as an excuse for laziness; however, we do need to follow His lead. We all should do what we can with the gifts He gives us.

Proverbs 20:24 says, "A man’s steps are from the Lord; how then can man understand his way?"

This is a great point. Moses got a little ahead of God and spent 40 years on the backside of the desert before getting a second shot at leading God's people.
I'm not advocating leaving undone things we already know to do, but following requires waiting. The children of Israel in the desert didn't just get up every day and meander along. They moved when the pillar moved. So too should we.

You cannot store your thoughts in heaven. Jesus is talking about material things in heaven. He said where thieves cannot break in a steal.

I agree there has to be a balance, but I've seen too many Christians use it as an excuse to do nothing. Can't tell you how many times I've heard pastors tell someone to just "Wait on the LORD", in situations where action was required. It's like the couple that says, "We're going to let GOD decide how many children we have" After having 8 kids, they realize they made a mistake.

I didn't say that.

This is not something I came up with.... These scripture are widely understood in light of eastern culture.
The Bible is an eastern book and was written in light of their understanding using eastern customs, idioms, figure of speech and orientalism's.
