Have you ever been asked something so dumb (for lack of a better term; not trying to be unkind) that you weren't sure how to respond?
There's a lady that works in the same building that I do, and since she's found out that I'm a Christian, she makes an effort to socialize with me - we've eaten lunch together a few times, etc., etc...
How do I change that "Faith: Christian Seeker" thing, btw? I don't remember ever choosing that...
But anyway, back to this lady at work. I would call her nominally Christian. She has little to no knowledge of the Bible, Christianity, Jesus, etc. I think this comes from a combination of her being from the so-called "Bible Belt" and not really having much education.
But she's a sweet lady and I don't mind giving her the time and attention she seems to want from me.
This evening after I left work, I got a text from her that said, "i meant to ask you today why dont we follow judaism being they are chosen," which she immediately followed with "you know follow the religion with them being the chosen people israel."
I told her I'd email her about it later, because it's way too long for a text, but I just can't even think what to say to her!
Thanks - you guys are the best!

Sounds to me as if God has a work for you to do. Pray about it.

John said,
that whom soever will believe. After Christ died on the cross, Salvation was opened to all who believes .
You can also get into the history of Israel

There were 12 tribes that God scattered over to Europe and later settled America. so im not sure she even knows who Israel is when she makes the statement she did. Judah is one tribe, but as God said, I will make them as numerous as the sands of the sea and the stars of heaven .

The religion of the so called '' chosen people' is to follow Christ. That is what they always were meant to do. but they just dont. or do depending on who you are talking about

here in Isaiah 7:14 , shows a prophecy of Christ among many, And Christ death on the cross In Psalms 22, that was written a 1000 years before Christ died on the cross and reserrected. That was written by David, but Christ taught it on the cross.

This is a perfect opportunity for you to delineate exactly who you are. Let her know that you are, under no uncertain terms, interested in such a blasphemous endeavor; and explain why (i.e., the gospel). GOD is letting you know what she is about. If you don't do this, you will be participating in some kind of weird co-dependency thing that will keep her in your life in a bad way. If she wakes up, that will be a good thing, and your friendship can grow. If not, good riddance...

She means the people in the nation know as Israel by name, today.

A lot of them are not even of the tribe of Judah like I said, but to keep it simple, you might want to focus on the Judah and other Tribes of Israel mentioned in the Bible in the OT.

Just show all the scriptures of Christ in the old testament. That , He was told them about. And they would have to follow Christ.
Many of the practices was a teaching method to show them what atonement for sin was about, and how it was not able to Save them, But God would provide a better way, for their sakes, because man could not live under the law, meaning they could not stop sinning, and there was no amount of animals that would be able to make them clean of their sins. so there was another way provided by God. .. That way is Christ .

Show all the scriptures concerning Christ in the Old testament.

Read Romans 10 and let the truth sink into your brain. This person is ready to hear the gospel. In fact, this question may be her opening the door to talk about Christ, the Saviour! So pray, pray, pray, that God would open up the truth of the gospel to her.

You might also mention that the reason the Jews were chosen, was because of a promise to Abraham in Gen. 12 that all the nations of the world would be blessed through him. And that David was promised an heir that would rule over Israel forever.

"then I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised David your father, saying, ‘You shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’" 1 Kings 9:5

That descendent who sits on the throne in heaven is Jesus Christ, who died for our sins, that we might believe, repent and be born again and receive eternal life.

The Jews mostly did not believe in Jesus and they have lost being chosen, because they did not believe. So they also need Christ.

"For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” [SUP]12 [/SUP]For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. [SUP]13 [/SUP]For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”" Romans 10:11-13

Before you show her Christ, you might want to show her why she needs a Saviour. I think that is a big problem with evangelism today. We show people Christ, but we kind of shy away from showing them how evil they really are, just like we used to be (Romans 3). I say this because you used the term nominal Christian. I don't know her, but your description would indicate that she is not truly born again. I am in the Bible Belt and frequently deal with people who think they are genuinely born again because they attend church and can quote John 3:16. I am not saying this to be mean, I just see this so often here in the Bible Belt. I talk to a lot of people who go to church simply because they think that's what they are supposed to do. If people don't see just how evil and wicked they really are, they will never see a need for a Saviour. Just my thoughts.

I live in the " Bible belt" , Georgia, and hopefully this helps. going to Church is a social affair and part of the culture down here. EVERYONE is supposed to have " a Church" and " a pastor" in the south. many people treat Church as a social club and do all kind of activities and this group and that group. the sermon is a 20 minute distraction from the activities. now it is not like this in every Church, but it is common.

Simple answer for a text mesage: "They were chosen to give us Jesus. I already have Jesus." You can enlarge on it later, that you inherit in Jesus, everything He gave the Jews, and much more, without having to follow their religious rituals. Then, you can cme back here to learn about specifics, when she hits you up for specific things, like Kosher, or the feasts.
