The transition between the first creation story in Genesis chapter 1 and the second creation story in chapter 2 is difficult to follow because the bridge between chapter 1 and chapter 2 was corrupted and that bridge is Gen. 2:5. Let me show you another translation that I think you will agree will solve the problem perfectly. Here it is:
Genesis 2:5 (JST)
And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew, for I, the Lord God, created all things of which I have spoken, spiritually, before they were naturally upon the face of the earth. For I, the Lord God, had not caused it to rain upon the face of the earth. And I, the Lord God, had created all the children of men; and not yet a man to till the ground; for in heaven created I them; and there was not yet flesh upon the earth, neither in the water, neither in the air.

To me all is perfectly clear now. God the Father/Elohim is the creator of all the spirits of everything that was created in chapter 1, then in chapter 2, the Lord God/Yahweh/Jesus is the creator of all things naturally found on the earth. And the transition scripture is clear and precise and that is Gen. 2:5.

That is why the scriptures talk about "we are the children of God", (Romans 8:16), and in fact "we are
God's offspring" (Acts 17:28-29). We are God's offspring in the spirit. We are literally his offspring, and that is why we are the Sons of God in 2 ways: 1) We are literally his son in the spirit creation, 2) we are his adopted son when we believe on him in the flesh.

That's why we can eventually be resurrected, thanks to Jesus and have an eternal body combined with our eternal spirit that makes up an eternal soul, and if we can overcome the world we can sit in Jesus's throne with him and are joint-heirs of everything the Father has and we can be like him. The only way we can be like him is if we were born in the spirit and are an offspring of God before the world was. Ir all starts there.

As far as Joshua and Elisha are concerned, you can think what you wish, but it goes to show you that there is a host of invisible spirits that exist and are there to assist the people of the Lord when the Lord allows. I believe they are part of the spirit creation of chapter 1.
Hear is something I wrote about "spirit children." enjoy

VCO, I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have read your posts and want to show you that my church is a 'Restoration' of the first century church. No other church can compare to it more than mine.

[h=2]New Testament Church Compared to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints[/h]

(Name of this Church) Hebrews 12:23…Church of the “First Born” (Jesus Christ) Jesus was referred to as the ‘First Born.’

My church is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, (Latter Day Saints, to differentiate us from the Meridian of Time Saints in Christ day)

(When a problem arose in any branch of this church, it went to the Apostles / buildings in this church called “Branches”) Acts 15:1-2,4-5,7-29…Peter, Barnabas, Paul, James, Simeon, talked about the problem. The dispute is settled. Letters are written by the Apostles to these three branches of the church (Antioch branch, Syria branch, and Cilicia branch). The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, has Temples built unto Jesus Christ, the Lord’s house, members go to these temples to praise and bless God by partaking of ordinaces.

Apostle Paul saw a vision of Christ while praying in the Temple, indicating

the temple was a house of revelation for the earlier Christians Acts 22:17-18

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints considers it’s Temples as a house of revelation, instruction, and teaching’s. The Jews called the Temple the gateway to heaven, the Latter Day Saints agree with them wholeheardedly.

James pointed out what pure religion is. James 1:26…If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
James 1:27…Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

In conclusion: We claim a restoration of the First Century Church. We do not claim a ‘Reformation.”

My back ground: I was born into the Roman Catholic Church. I later embraced Judaism with my Father. I then was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have been a member now for 25 years. God bless you.

Jimbone:

I was born into the Roman Catholic Church. My Mother was Catholic and my Father was a Jew. I went to a Catholic School up to the 8[SUP]th[/SUP] grade. I grew up in a town in Michigan where the Roman Catholic Religion was dominant. When I started High School I embraced Judaism with my Father; no more believing in Jesus Christ. I wore my Yalmukah all the time and other kids would make fun and say look at the beanie cap that kid is wearing. I was called a ‘Christ Killer’ and other disparaging names. I would hear sick jokes about the holocaust.

After high school I moved to California and started college. That is where my life changed forever. I met two missionaries who knocked on my door, they were clean cut wearing white shirts and black tags. They introduced themselves as Elder Deqoutro from Boston and Elder Grinder was from a little town in Mississippi. They were missionaries from ‘The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.’

They started to teach me and as time went by I remember having feelings of ‘What will my friends think back home? What would my parents think? What would my siblings think? I remember telling the missionaries that we had to use the Old Testament if I was going to read the Book of Mormon. After six months the missionaries told me that I needed to find out for myself and pray about it.

I remember going to my bedroom and kneeling at my bed side. I started to pray in the manner that the missionaries had taught me. I remember just breaking down and crying asking Heavenly Father if the Book of Mormon was true? Was Joseph Smith a true prophet? Did Jesus Christ really exist? I then decided to just sit still and listen. That is when a peace came over me and I felt the Holy Ghost witness to my spirit that everything I had just prayed for was true. I was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and I have been a member now for 25 years.

I then returned home to Michigan where all hell broke loose. My father and Mother could not understand why out of all the churches did I join this one? My Father’s side of the family who were all Jews totally freaked out on me. My friends made fun of me including my siblings. Both of my parents are passed away and till this day my twin brother will not speak to me because I embraced Mormonism. I have paid a high price for being a disciple of Jesus Christ in his church. Jesus himself said that we would be persecuted for his name sake. I wanted to share this with you to let you know that we should try and build bridges of understanding instead of fighting over who is right and who is wrong? Jesus said this so eloquently ‘Ye know that ye are my disciples when ye have love one for another.’ (Paraphrased).

Hear is something I wrote about "spirit children." enjoy

Spirit Children?
It looks like you have done some study on this subject and I appreciate your study. But your study seems to be one-sided. Now I would like you to consider studying this subject again as if you believed it were true and give me all the scriptures in the bible that would support it. Then your study will be complete, but not until you do this will you be justified in your belief.

Let me give you an example:

1 Kings 22:19&21
19 ...I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left.
21 And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said, I will persuade him...
Here we are given a special insight that there are spirit beings around God and his throne. So give me an explanation as to where you think these spirits came from and just who they were? Are these spirit children of God?

Job 38:3-7
3 Gird up now thy loins like a man, for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding.
5 Who hath laid the measure thereof, if thou knowest? Or who hath stretched the line upon it?
6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? Or who laid the corner stone thereof,
7 When the morning stars sang together, and the sons of God shouted for joy.
Interesting scripture where God is asking Job where he was when He created the World. Job does not answer, but the sons of God shouted for joy when they saw the earth being prepared for them. Who are these sons of God who were with God and witnessing the creation of the earth. Where did they come from? Could they be spirit children of God?

I believe I have the answer to that question and there are many other scriptures that let me know that there are spirit children of God.

So justify your first study that says there are not spirit children by locating scriptures that say there are spirit children of God. If you find none, then you can say with confidence, I have made my decision, what about you.

When we asked, we were repeatedly told that 98% of the population is Mormon. So my question is the same as for the Muslims: If the majority of them are decent righteous people, why do they let the minority get away with all that they do?

Well now I can see why you would be so concerned. The Mormon population is only around 60% and falling. It is because Utah is a beautiful state geologically, and the general population are good people. So our public schools are still decent, the population as a whole is not high, it is mostly made up of Republicans, we have a pretty high college graduation rate that gives us a good educated work force. So all in all, not a bad place to live.

But not 98% Mormon. I wonder if you are that far off on the Mormon population, how bout your other statistics. Doesn't matter because you can never get to the real bottom line, and if you don't get there you can't say anything good or bad about the Mormon population.

I believe they are part of the spirit creation of chapter 1.
why do you say the transition between the two stories is hard to follow? one story ends, the new one starts at 2:4 These are the generations... that phrase occurs several times in Genesis, marking a new section... why do you say corruption has taken place? I agree there's lots of invisible spirits around...

God bless you.

hi Mosiah... I'm glad you're here! VCO may not be checking this thread anymore... that's the impression I got from his last few posts here...

Are these spirit children of God?
continuing
22 And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said , I will go forth , and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth , and do so.
23 Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.

God sending a deceiving spirit does not mean that he is sending a spirit child that was yet to be born in the flesh. He was merely sending a demonic force and allowing it to perform what was natural to it--to do something that was part of the greater plan of God. God has all power.

Verse 7 mentioning the sons of God can be directly equated with Genesis 6:1-4 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose . And the LORD said , My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh : yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

The original Hebrew text calls the offspring of the sons of God "nephilim." Angels can take human form when we read the story of Lot in Sodom. In both passages of Job and Genesis, it is clearly referring to angels created by God. The writing in Job is referring to angels that are still faithful to God in heaven. In Genesis the "sons of God" is referring to fallen angels who had sex with the daughters of men giving birth to giants. Even after the flood during Noah's day, Goliath was also a mighty warrior and visions and more than likely a "nephilm."

Even though one reads in Jerimiah 1:5 "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations" this is a description of God's divine providence and foreknowledge.

Concerning Job, God was clearly putting the point across that Job had no idea what happened before he as born while God was creating everything. The only one who existed before His birth was the ONLY begotten Son of God. There is a reason that the Bible says it clearly that way.

"For by him were all things created , that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist." Colossians 1:16-17

Jesus said this so eloquently ‘Ye know that ye are my disciples when ye have love one for another.’ (Paraphrased).
hi again... Daniel606 and I are talking about spirits before birth... I invite you to join us... we can also talk about one of the subjects from your posts...

I like the approach of seeing if you can show the other side... I first encountered it in myself when talking to some jw's...I knew I could show they were wrong, but if I was in their shoes, and wanted to show I was wrong, could I do it? the subject began take on more layers after that...

I agree that the Mormon doctrine is skewed particularity with the "Aronic priesthood" thing. Nevertheless I have many relatives in, and around Salt Lake City who are Mormons. Some die hards and some not. If I were to have them close since I live in Tennessee, it would be a happy time for my wife and I. They are some of the nicest people that I have ever known, particularity being family which is rare these days. Nice to each other I mean. Their love, and respect is more prevalent than what I can say for most other religions that I have rubbed shoulders with. What makes the difference ya think? I think it's the way they view all of God's word rather than part of God's word even though I don't agree with their overall doctrine.
I understand what your saying, and I agree to the world Mormonism looks real good, but since when do we judge things by worldly standards. Do you agree that we don't "earn" our way into heaven? So to God aren't all their good works as filthy rags? If you don't have truth it matters not how good you "act". That will not save you, only the 1 truth through the blood of Jesus Christ can, and that's not the same Jesus that the Mormon church teaches. If you don't know what I'm talking about I would suggest you look a little deeper, the whole LDS church from the very start was a Joseph Smith con job, period. Not that it isn't a great con job, but a con job all the same. Many today don't like to say offensive things and use Jesus's love as an excuse not to judge righteously, which He never commands us not to do BTW, but I assure you Jesus would have spoke against the LDS without a doubt, it's false and sending souls to hell, and not hard at all to prove it false if you just look. There are going to be a bunch of "nice people" in hell and that's scary to me.

You don't have to try and convince me of what you don't know about me. If I thought that LDS did not have certain things about their doctrine that I presently disagree and deem as totally incorrect, I would be one. I have already studied much about them since I have Mormon relatives. They read the same Bible I do but their big mistake is adding the "Book of Mormon" to their doctrinal beliefs. I admire them for adhering to the law of God however. As you suggested to me, would you be so kind as to read more of what I posted about "Spirit Children?" Thanks

Yes I read what you wrote about the spirit children and I think you are mistaken about when they may exist. Yes God knew us before we were physically born, not because we existed before then, but because He is timeless and knows the whole story at the same time. He still sees Adam and Eve in the garden as clearly as He sees us now, and He sees the end as well. The way the Spirit guides my understanding is, we don't exist as spirit children in heaven in the way Mormon teaching suggest. And as far as the fallen angels coming into the daughters of men, they were able to do this because they gave up their heavenly bodies or the "first estates" when they rebelled against God.
Jude1:6 "And the angels who kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day."
All this ties into the book of Enoch as well, but I don't see how it proves the con man Joseph Smith story was true.

One more thing, when make comments like this, "I think it's the way they view all of God's word rather than part of God's word even though I don't agree with their overall doctrine", it's very dangerous. You can't make God out to be how you think he is, or make Him conform to what you think is right. That is why He put His word on earth for us to follow. Just because you think His truth doesn't line up to what you perceive His love to be, does NOT mean you get to mold it to fit what you deem righteous. You have to go strait to the word with these questions and let the word answer them, and none of what you posted was about our spirits existing before our physical births. Once again no matter how you look at Mormonism it cannot be confirmed, not by scripture, not by archeology, not by historical record, not by genetics, not by anything at all. So we can't just make truth, that's one of the things I've found amazing about Christianity, is that it welcomes these questions and has proved to be accurate over and over again. That's truth, it's a matter of heaven and hell, and our feelings don't change it. These aren't just flavor of the day belief systems that make better lives for ourselves so whatever we choose is right for us, and we can't choose wrong. The conversion of our hearts through the POWER of the Holy Spirit is an actual tangible event that truly reveals the one true God to that person forever changing them into a new creature. Not a decision to act real good to impress the world around us. True biblical Christianity is the only one of these religious systems that has the power to do that. Any good works can ONLY come after this regeneration of our being through the blood of our Almighty Savior Jesus Christ, and these works are not to EARN salvation, but in gratitude for it. I hope this makes sense and realize it's a hard message to accept, but that's why Christians have a history of being burned at the stake, this world hate His because He tells this world it's ways are wrong.
