So basically my friend thinks that smoking weed helps him be at peace so when he preaches the gospel he says he needs to be on weed.

THE ISSUE IS NOT ABOUT THE WEED. HE KNOWS ITS ILLEGAL.

The issue is is that he is using the things of this world and putting his faith in the creation rather than the creator.

ive tried explaining it to him, but my claims don't have enough biblical evidence. i need something that God said to take him out of this trap that he's digging himself.

I need a some verses that show him that it is sinful to put your faith in substances rather than God, because God gives peace, not marijuana.

How can i explain that you do not need weed, you need more God.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. - Proverbs 3:5 NASB

For if he thinks, he thinks, this weed will help him, like you said he is trusting or putting worldly things into his faith. But I would condemn myself for this saying because I myself believe tea helps me focus in life, but, but then again of course I believe God makes and gives the tea it's supplements to help me be focused and alert. I don't trust in the tea, because I am confident that God is able to drain every antioxidant, everything from it, that it will be like water to me. So I don't condemn myself if I trust that God works within the plant I receive great health enhancement. :)

But with weed...That's a sin, it's not meant for the body, even if it helps.

Isaiah 26:3-4 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

I question the veracity of your friend. God tells us that it is His Holy Spirit that gives us the words we are to speak when we proclaim the gospel. Not the spirit of weed but Gods Holy Spirit. Gal 5 delineates the differences between the spirit of the flesh and the Spirit of God. The lunacy of the idea that weed and preaching of the gospel mix together exceeds the bounds of reason.

He is a vessel through which God passes across His word to the lost so he should trust that God will give him the boldness and peace necessary to preach the gospel. Additionally, our bodies and health are a gift from God so we should honour Him with it by keeping it pure instead of intentionally harming it with dangerous practices. Your friend should consider the health risks too.

It isn't unlawful, but it can be an obstacle in the way that hender you from making the right decisions on the way to becoming righteous in the sight of God.

1 Thessalonians 5:6So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.

1 Thessalonians 5:8
But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

1 Peter 1:13
[ Be Holy ] Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.

1 Peter 4:7
The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.

1 Peter 5:8
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

When men decide they will give their own ideas as God's ideas, when we see false prophets out there, it is a problem for those who listen to only God. I have tried to make a Mormon and a Muslim see, and often go on cc to point out what men say is twisting God's words. I think we are fighting a tough battle.
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

It doesn't seem to be the people themselves who have these ideas, it is as if they are being used by these forces. They seems to be innocent dupes. It sometimes near breaks my heart.

Is it the fear of man that he attempts to overcome by getting high b4 preaching?

Your statement kind of contradicts itself, when you say your CHRISTIAN friend has faith in the things of this world. I'm sorry, but NO real Christian has faith in the things of this world. So, if your friend has faith in the things of the world, then I am thinking that he is not a real Christian, sorry. A true Christian does not trust in anything else but Jesus Christ and God.
