So, I learned from the forums that the consensus here is that Catholics aren't christian. Are Mormons Christians? Their god is on a real planet in our physical universe, but its still the same god, yes/no? Joseph Smith is a known criminal, is he a false prophet? Does this invalidate the rest of the religion?

Since the LDS church teaches Jesus is Lucifer's brother and not God, I'm going with no on the Mormons.
(which makes me so sad, as I have a dear friend who abandoned Catholcism for the LDS) :(

I think the Catholic church doctrine to be...not above reproach?
Yet, just as in any church denomination...or non-denomination
there are those who are true believers, and those who are not. :)
Not for me to judge that.
It's for me to love.

I think Christians are people who love the Lord with all their hearts, minds, and souls, and love their neighbors as themselves.

The thing concerning many doctrines which show a clear misunderstanding of Christianity is the priesthood. All who have access to the Holiest of All/Holy of Holies are Christian/Everlasting Priesthood. The two are the same. If a doctrine tries to separate the priesthood and christians by calling them two parts, the doctrine is incorrect. If we do not have access to the Holiest of All, then we are not sealed.

Joh_6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

2Co_1:22
Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

Eph_1:13
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Eph_4:30
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Read the entire book of 1st John. You won't find a better answer to your question anywhere else.

This is an interesting topic. I was raised Catholic and have since left that form and doctorine of Christianity. Yes I believe Catholics to be brothers in Christ. I do however think that so much gets lost on the tradition and religion of it that the Relationship aspect is often lost.

I do agree that there are devout believers in a multitude of 'religions" and that God is big enough to utilyze those that He wishes for whatever He may want them to do. Bloom where you are planted! If that should be a Pentacostal church great! Baptist, awesome.....but BLOOM! Fear the Lord and be encouraged by the Holy Spirit and seek Christ in all you do!

... and neither add to, nor take from, the Word of God ...
The reason Mormons get around this is the mythology they use states that the book of Mormon was written before the Book of Revelation. The story told by Joseph Smith is just that he was translated ancient texts.

I believe that they are Christians but a very bizarre subset.

I don't think the consensus here is anti Catholic, but I have seen some CAtholic bashing. Don't worry about the few. Some of the most devout Christians ever, & still today, are Catholics. This is a "CHRISTIAN" website, not an "anticatholic site".

The issue is one of doctrine and doctrinal changes.

Is one a god that denies the triune nature of Godliness?

Is one a god who runs the Olympic games and puts images of women on buildings to entice worship of both?

Is one a god who builds a temple and wears magic clothing?

Is one a god to whom the scripture comes, or to those to whom have knowledge of where the resources are, know how to turn metal and cut stone and manipulate others into doing work for them on the order of David Koresh or Bishop Steven Covey ...

Is one a god who's view of Zion is material and worldly?

I say yes to all the above ... they are the gods of THIS world, who's brother is lucifer!
