Actually I prefer to know, where it says in scripture in the new testament, that because God rested on the seventh day, this means the Sabbath continues and we must keep the Sabbath.

You are making this connection so I would like to know where in the new testament this is taught?

Hi UG and others,

Can you show me from God's Word anything I have posted here on this forum that is not from God's Word and is dangerous doctrine. I am not interested in our opinions and rumors of what he said or she said. Use God's Word and let's talk Scripture as Christians in the Spirit of love. If you can't show me from God's Word anything that I am saying that is not correct, then why not believe God's Word?

(for on lookers convenience)
Matthew 13:20-21

20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;

21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

the seed is the truth

but wouldnt his DEAD faith mean he NEVER accepted the sacrifice?

John 6:37 - All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

John 10:28 - And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any [man] pluck them out of my hand.
I don't disagree with anything you've posted.

Let's go through the verses:

Mathew 13:20-21
This is JESUS speaking...

verse 20

The person HEARS the word. In Jesus' time HEAR meanto to hear with the heart, to accept with the mind and heart.
He accepts it with JOY. This means that the hearer understood the message. We all had joy when we got to know Jesus.
So he HEARD WITH JOY. This sounds to me like the person BELIEVED in what he heard.

verse 21

"He dureth for a while" Jesus is saying that the believer believed FOR A WHILE.
My NASB says that it was ONLY TEMPORARY.

So, it would seem, according to Jesus' words, that the hearer understood, accepted with joy, and believed, BUT ONLY FOR A WHILE.

Which means that it IS possible to believe FOR ONLY A WHILE. (for many different reasons, in this case persecution).

Dead faith in the bible is referring to a BELIEVER that has DEAD FAITH.
Everyone else definitely has dead faith because they have NO FAITH.
Dead Faith in a believer, according to James, is someone who does no works but says he has faith.
James 2:14
James 2:17
James 2:20

John 6:37

The Father calls ALL to go to Christ.
Romans 2:19-20 God Father has made Himself be known and has given His only Son. John 3:16 that WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH in Jesus should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Whosoever BELIEVES. Present tense. You must believe at the time of Death.

FAITH AND BELIEF = SALVATION
No FAITH No BELIEF = NO SALVATION (just like those atheists that do not believe)

Jesus will NEVER cast out anyone who wants to remain in Him.

Definition of cast out
transitive verb
: to drive out : expel

John 10:28

No MAN OR SPIRIT BEING will EVER pluck us out of the hand of God.
But where does it say we cannot walk out?

Can we walk out of our own free will or not?
Do we lose our free will when we become saved?
This is an important question to ask ourselves.

If we are FORCED BY GOD TO REMAIN SAVED, even if we WANT TO LEAVE, then we have to believe we've lost our free will.

If we have free will, then we have it forever. So if I WANT to leave God, I should have the free will to do exactly this.

God made us in His image.
Free Will is one of the attributes He gave us.

I'd like to say that those who do not adhere to OSAS, do not say the above to scare anyone, but to bring to their attention that is IS POSSIBLE to lose salvation. IT IS NOT EASY.

Those who know and love God will tend to stay with Him their Whole life.
But, we cannot say that it is IMPOSSIBLE to lose salvation. I'm sure we all know persons who have had this experience.
I don't sit around worrying about it all the time.
Posters here tell me I must not have joy because of this.
I have the same joy they have AND MORE.
Because I know it's UP TO ME to remain in our Lord...
I don't have to hear from someone someday say. She never believed to begin with.

Now THAT is insecurity !

*So you were too young to tell what he believed back then...it "sounds" like his belief was faith based, but you never got a clear, definitive answer. Just because someone was a baptist preacher does not automatically mean they must have been saved.

So now he "lives in fornication and drunkeness (pot smoking)
singer of a rock band/said God isnt real and Jesus wasn't God." Does that sound descriptive of a child of God to you? I pray that he will receive Jesus.

Believing in OSAS doesn't automatically mean you will go out and live like the devil. Love and gratitude is the proper motivation to serve the Lord and not fear and bondage to insecurity. There are people in the OSAS camp who may never have been genuinely converted, just as there are those in the NOSAS camp who trust in works for salvation and have never been genuinely converted.
no to me it sounds like he was never of God
just given a portion of faith like everyone
and some knowledge he ended up forsaking
and became reprobate afterwords
but

unless he is lying when he says he believes "if Jesus is God then i should be fine"

because he believes(or believed) in eternal salvation

then it kind of sounded like one of them people you said you "never" met

Yes..it is the very nature of it. Because they need to "keep themselves saved by what they do or don't do."

It's an anti-Christ belief system and it is a product of eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil which was brought into this world by Adam's transgression.
Do you read what you write?

Those of us who LOVE JESUS
and
are DOING WHAT WE DO or NOT DOING
because we want to adhere what our LORD AND MASTER is teaching us and has taught everyone

are

Anti-Christ.

I sure hope those reading along caught this.

I suppose those WHO DISOBEY God and DO NOT DO what He wants are the "real" Christians?

It's tooooo much.

Let's see what JESUS has to say about this:

John 14:15
John 15:14
John 15:1-6
John 5:27-29

my uncle...

he was the preacher of a church

now hes a new age agnostic type

who lives in fornication and drunkeness (pot smoking)
and is the singer of a rock band

last i spoke to him

he said God isnt real and Jesus wasnt God

but if he IS then he should be fine because he was saved already

hes an example of someone who believes once saved always saved

he was a baptist preacher

i still pray he turns back to Jesus

(i was too young to tell you what he believed back then.... wether it be work based or based on the sinners prayer or i dont know what.... but now it sounds to me like his belief was faith based)
NNM

It does't matter what his belief system was.

Your uncle was saved, and now he's not.
This happens.
I know at least 2 people I could think of just off hand that are no longer believers.

If they knew Jesus and did their best to follow His leading... they were saved.

As I said, it's not easy to leave God,
but it is possible...

Man is saved through faith and not by works, yet genuine faith is evidenced by works. Is that what you are trying to say?
That is exactly what I'm saying.

And because genuine faith is evidenced by works, Christ will use our works as evidence to determine if we go to the left or to the right at the Judgment (Matthew 25:31-46). So it is only in that way that works are necessary for salvation--they are the evidence that must follow the faith that saves all by itself apart from works.

But so many people think that just because salvation does start the moment you believe then it isn't necessary that their faith produce works--they're already saved. They don't understand that if they really were saved at the moment of believing their works will prove it (or disprove it).

That's why the Bible tells us to make our calling and election sure by being diligent to bring increase to our knowledge of God, it's so we can know for ourselves that we do indeed have the faith that saves all by itself apart from works and are prepared for the coming Judgment. Our works prove, or disprove, the presence of the faith that saves all by itself apart from works.

The grace of God teaches us to say no to ungodliness

Yes two things God's grace acording to His work of faith.

We are saved by Christ’s work of faith according to His labor of love it alone provides God’s grace. The eternal work He performed as the lamb of God slain from the foundation of the world was no problem to the eternal one.

His grace teaches us to say no to ungodliness .If we do not have his eternal grace to begin with we cannot work

Tit 2:11 For the grace of God that "bringeth salvation" hath appeared to all men,
Tit 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

Yes deeds done according to His righteousness as an imputed righteousness. Not of our own selves. People who know not God have no righteousness . They have no desire not being drawn by the father to work their way to heaven they have their reward and try and show it as a sign to themeselves. There own gospel
It's nice how you picked out two verses about grace and spoke to those.

Did you notice that there were twice as many verses on WORKS in the book of Titus, which YOU brought up BTW.

Care to address those?
No. You don't care for works.
Even though the book of Titus CLEARLY states that they are NECESSARY.

This is the work that accompanies salvation (note the italics part):

"we are convinced of better things concerning you, and things that accompany salvation, though we are speaking in this way. 10For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints." (Hebrews 6:9-10 NASB)
Yes the works of Christ do accompany salvation .After all it is Christ working in us to both hear His will and do it. If we do His will we cannot be accredited for it. Its not our will or breath of air needed to perform it . He makes our hearts soft
This is the work that accompanies salvation (note the italics part):
Yes the works of Christ do accompany the salvation of Christ. Remember it is Christ working in us to both hear His will and do it. If we do His will we cannot be accredited for it.(blasphemy).

Its not our will or breath of air needed to perform it. he performs all that is apointed to us. It is he alone who can make our hearts soft. He who moves Holy men to do His will is recognized be the Spirit of Grace. His Grace coming from His work does make our hearts soft
Not earns it, accompanies it.
He earned it His glory accompanies it

But so many people are convinced salvation can be alone and it's still a salvation.

Salvation is of Christ alone. He is our confidence .He informs us if he has begun the good work of salvation in us he will finish it to the end . He finishes every thing he starts.

The author also says that fields that are barren of good growth and only have thorns growing in it will be burned up in the end:

Thorn and thistles are for those in Hebrew 6 Better things accompany salvation for the believer called redemption
Two companies of people. It a warning to those who have salvation not to think lightly of violated the law of God Christian will not be barren all the work needed to appease the wrath of His father have been made .

Phi 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

What do you have that you have not received? And if you have received it (not earned it) why would you glory in your own flesh as if you earned it?
Not earns it, accompanies it.
He earned its His glory accompanies it. Why glory in the flesh?

They do it by deceptive means but we are not ignorant of this tactic. I love the attempted spiritual manipulation that these types do to pervert the gospel.

They say - "I am only giving you the word of God. We are to believe God and not man. Why don't you believe the word of God? Do you love Jesus?"

What they are really saying is "If you don't believe what I believe - then you don't believe the word of God nor love Jesus."

We don't fall for this religious garbage.

This is all spiritual manipulation and it is witchcraft - which is a work of the flesh. Gal. 5:19 - Witchcraft is the mixing of things together to get a desired result.

We are not ignorant of these types of schemes nor will we fall for this religious nonsense.

Paul said that he didn't put up with this for even one hour so that the truth of the gospel would remain with the Galatians.

Galatians 2:4-5 (NASB)
[SUP]4 [/SUP] But it was because of the false brethren secretly brought in, who had sneaked in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, in order to bring us into bondage.

[SUP]5 [/SUP] But we did not yield in subjection to them for even an hour, so that the truth of the gospel would remain with you.

So since YOU say:

What they are really saying is "If you don't believe what I believe - then you don't believe the word of God nor love Jesus."

We don't fall for this religious garbage.

What you believe is religious garbage??

The "natural" man will look at the scriptures and see works. But God is not a God of confusion. The bible has no contradictions. Either it's grace or works, it can't be both.

God does have a sense of humor though. He destroys the wisdom of the world. Because the scriptures are spiritually discerned, he made it possible for a person to get tangled up in their own messy web of lies, if this is what they choose... because they reject truth.

Anyone can pick a random verse and make it mean what they choose. That's like Catholics picking out all the scriptures that say "fire" and then making a case for purgatory. For example, anyone reading that verse "if we sin willfully" could easily come to the wrong conclusion, that God sends His children to hell because of a sin.... but one has to read the rest of the chapter to get the correct context.

The scriptures flow together perfectly, with no contradictions. So when a person has the wrong interpretation the error becomes clear because it contradicts the foundational truths and promises of God. The problem is when said error is exposed, often the person will refuse to accept the error and instead will twist another scripture (that reveals the error). Then another scripture reveals the error of that one they twisted, and they then twist that one also, and on and on it goes, until the bible ends up looking like a fairytale, a complete mess. One twisting leads to another twisting. Scripture twisters do this multiple times to try and force the scriptures to flow together.

Where there is mention of eternal life, I just cannot embrace a wrong interpretation elsewhere that says we have conditional life. Where we're promised the HS will never leave us, I just can't accept an interpretation of another scripture that says He does. You have two conflicting messages. There is only one truth. Both are not correct. I believe that God keeps His promises.

AMEN....my bible states clearly it is grace dia faith forever......and to try and embellish with works = false gospel of a different kind....it is faith alone that eternally saves a person......

Good point, IMO the works is something that is done not because the bible says we should nor by any other means but because a person wants to do it from the heart for another.

Actually I prefer to know, where it says in scripture in the new testament, that because God rested on the seventh day, this means the Sabbath continues and we must keep the Sabbath.
You are making this connection so I would like to know where in the new testament this is taught?
Hi UG,

My last post before resting for the evening. Great question. Lets look at what the Word of God says...

Jesus is our example and we should follow him;

1 Peter 2:20-22

For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God. For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, WHO COMMITTED NO SIN, NOR WAS ANY DECEIT FOUND IN HIS MOUTH;

1 John 2:6
The one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.

Matthew 16:24
Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.

What did Jesus teach us about the Sabbath?

Jesus came to teach us about the Sabbath when he was with us. The Jews had placed so many restrictions on the Sabbath commandment that it had become a burden to the people and was nearly impossible to keep (Luke 13:14; John 5:10-18; 9:16; etc). Jesus taught us that this was not the purpose of the Sabbath.

(1) He taught us that the Sabbath was made for mankind and that mankind was not created for the Sabbath (Mark 2:27).

Jesus came to teach us that (2) He is the Lord of the Sabbath and that this is the Lord's Day (Mark 2:28)

Jesus came to (3) teach us that it is ok to enjoy the Sabbath and to do good on the Sabbath (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14)

(4) Jesus taught and fellow shipped with his people on the Sabbath (Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56).

Similar verses can be shown for the apostles after the death of Jesus (Acts 13:14; 13:27; 13:44; 15:21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:4; Rev 1:10)

HEB 4
King James Bible
A Sabbath-Rest for God's People
(Genesis 2:1-3; Exodus 16:22-36)

1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
7 Again, he limited a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Key Scripture points

· Fear that the promise being left us any of us should fall short of entering God’s rest (v1)
· The Gospel was preached to the people in the Wilderness as well as us. The Word did not profit those in the wilderness because of their unbeliefit (v2)
· For we which have believed do enter into His Rest. The people in the wilderness that did not believe God did not enter into His Rest even though works were finished from the foundation of the world (v3)
· Speaking of the 7[SUP]th[/SUP] Day Sabbath and the last day of the creation week (Gen 2:1-3) (v4)
· God’s rest (Gen 2:1-3), those that believe enter into God’s 7[SUP]th[/SUP] Day Sabbath rest those that do not believe do not enter into God’s 7[SUP]th[/SUP] Day Sabbath rest (v5-6)

· Harden not your heart in unbelief (v7-8)
· There is a rest for the people of God (v9)
· Those that enter into God’s rest cease from works as God did v10
· We should labour to enter into God’s rest (Gen 2:1-3) faith in God’s Word (rest through believing God) v11
· The Word of God is powerful. v12

Please go back and look at the Greek meaning of the word "rest" used in Heb 4:9 its meaning is resting through keeping of a Sabbath or Sabbath observance. (I have provided Greek links below)

“There remaineth therefore a [Sabbath] rest [SUP]4520[/SUP] to the people of God.” (NAS; Heb 4:9)
The Greek word literally means “Sabbath keeping” or “Sabbath observance.” (links below)
Strong's Concordance 4520
sabbatismos: a sabbath rest
Original Word: σαββατισμός, οῦ, ὁ
Part of Speech: Noun, Masculine
Transliteration: sabbatismos
Phonetic Spelling: (sab-bat-is-mos')
Short Definition: a Sabbath rest
Definition: a keeping of the Sabbath, a Sabbath rest.

Strong's Greek 4520

σαββατισμὸς — 1 Occ.
Hebrews 4:9N-NMS
GRK: ἄρα ἀπολείπεται σαββατισμὸς τῷ λαῷ
NAS: there remains a Sabbath rest for the people
KJV: therefore a rest to the people
INT: Then remains a sabbath rest to the people

Thayer's Greek Lexicon
STRONGS NT 4520: σαββατισμός
σαββατισμός, σαββατισμου, ὁ (σαββατίζω to keep the sabbath); 1. a keeping sabbath. 2. the blessed rest from toils and troubles looked for in the age to come by the true worshippers of God and true Christians (R. V. sabbath rest): Hebrews 4:9. (Plutarch, de superstit. c. 3; ecclesiastical writings.)

So let’s pull Hebrews 4:1-12 all together?

The context is God’s rest from the week of creation on the 7[SUP]th[/SUP] Day of the creation week (Heb 4:1-5). Those that did not enter into God’s rest (7th Day Sabbath) did not enter in because of their unbelief and disobedience (sins) to God’s Word. The Gospel was preached unto them but they did not believe it (Heb 4:2). God did not give them His true rest (Heb 4:5-8). This is the same warning for those that disobey Him and do not follow His Word. Only those that believe and obey God’s Word enter into his 7[SUP]th[/SUP] Day Sabbath rest (Heb 4:6, 9, 10-12). So as you can see Hebrews 4:1-12are not answering the earlier questions. In fact these scriptures support and talk about God’s 7[SUP]th[/SUP] Day Sabbath those that entered into God’s rest and those that did not.

This post has not even considered the posts in relation to God's Law which is another topic showing the same as what is posted here. Ok I have answered your question can you answer mine now while I go rest?

Can anyone show me one bible verse that says that the seventh day is no longer God's Sabbath day?

That says the seventh day Sabbath is ABOLISHED?

Hope this helps.

God bless

I have come across people on Christian forums and in person who have claimed to once been Christians/Believers, but no longer are, yet when I asked them exactly what they previously believed which established the fact that they were indeed genuine believers, I never get a satisfactory answer.

NOBODY has ever told me that at one time they genuinely had placed their faith (belief, trust, reliance) in Christ alone for salvation, but later have withdrawn their faith in Christ for salvation and went back to trusting in works for salvation.
I will repeat it 1000 times if necessary....it is IMPOSSIBLE....JESUS begins it, JESUS finishes it and COMPLETES the work of faith he starts....to say one can be saved and then can lose it denies the fact that it is Christ that STARTS it and FINISHES IT...BY DEFAULT they are calling JESUS a LIAR and saying he WILL not KEEP his promise, finish what he started and has no power to do so.......end of story!

It's simple - Christians are not under the law of Moses which includes the 10 commandments which includes the Sabbath keeping as outlined in the Old Covenant. We see the picture of resting from Gen. 2.

Christ Himself is the substance of what are types and shadows in the Old Testament which includes the 10 commandments including the Sabbath day rest. Col. 2:16-17

Come unto Me says the Lord Jesus Christ and I will give you rest.

You made this interesting statement:

i dont think its impossible to THINK youre saved
and not be saved

What would make a person THINK they are saved? (but not be).
Matthew 7:21-23

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Revelation 3:16-17

16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

It's simple - Christians are not under the law of Moses which includes the 10 commandments which includes the Sabbath keeping as outlined in the Old Covenant. We see the picture of resting from Gen. 2.

Christ Himself is the substance of what are types and shadows in the Old Testament which includes the 10 commandments including the Sabbath day rest. Col. 2:16-17
Come unto Me says the Lord Jesus Christ and I will give you rest.
Well I was about to sleep but could not help myself... ok just for you to help you with Col 2:16-17 because I love you all...

The Shadow Sabbaths in God's Word that were a Shadow of things to come.. Yes I am posting all of Lev 23 so people can see what was required as part of the duties of the annual Shadow Sabbaths and how it is exactly what Paul is referring to in Col 2:17

Lev 23:23, And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Lev 23:24, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the "first day of the month" (NOTE: H2320 חדשׁ, chôdesh; kho'-desh; the new moon; by implication a month: - month (-ly), new moon) "shall ye have a sabbath" "(שׁבּתון, shabbâthôn, shab-baw-thone' a sabbatism or special holiday: - rest, sabbath. a memorial, A special Sabbath This Word is a different Hebrew word to that used for the 7th Day Sabbath) of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.

Lev 23:25, Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

Lev 23:26, And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Lev 23:27, Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

Lev 23:28, And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God.
Lev 23:29, For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.

Different word to 7th Day Sabbath) and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.

Lev 23:34, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the LORD.

Lev 23:39, Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days: "on the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath.""(שׁבּתון, shabbâthôn, shab-baw-thone' a sabbatism or special holiday: - rest, sabbath. a memorial. Different word used to 7th Day Sabbath. It is a special feast Sabbath)

Lev 23:40, And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days. (this is what was to be done on these feast Shadow Sabbaths)

Lev 23:42, Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths:
Lev 23:43, That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.
Lev 23:44, And Moses declared unto the children of Israel the feasts of the LORD.

All the above were called annual sabbaths because they had special connections and duty requirements with certain yearly feasts. In addition to the weekly Sabbaths (Lev. 23:3), there were seven annual, ceremonial sabbaths scattered through Israel's religious calendar. These yearly sabbaths were not directly related to the seventh-day Sabbath or the weekly cycle. These sabbaths, "beside the Sabbaths of the Lord" (Lev. 23:38), were the first and last days of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Day of Pentecost, the Feast of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, and the first and last days of the Feast of Tabernacles (cf. Lev. 23:7, 8, 21, 24, 25, 27, 28, 35, 36).

Because the reckoning of these sabbaths depended on the beginning of the sacred year, which was based on the lunar calendar, they could fall on any day of the week. When they coincided with the weekly Sabbath, they were called "high days" (John 19:31). "While the weekly Sabbath was ordained at the close of Creation week for all mankind, the annual sabbaths were an integral part of the Jewish system of rites and ceremonies instituted at Mount Sinai, . . . which pointed forward to the coming of the Messiah, and the observance of which terminated with His death on the cross.

The connection with Col 2:16-17?

Lets look at it but we will look also at the context from verse 14...14 (context),"Blotting out the handwriting" (Greek = manuscript legal document G5495) of "ordinances" (G1378 δόγμα, dogma; dog'-mah = civil, ceremonial or ecclesiastical ordinance) that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; So the context is the blotting out of the civil, ceremonial and ecclesiastical laws. So Paul is not talking about any of God's 10 commandments or moral law as the Greek word used is Dogma. This is the Context in verse 14 and follows on to verses 16-17

15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath day(s)

17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. So comparing Leviticus Chapter 23 and looking at both the Hebrew and Greek in context of Col 2:14-17 it can be clearly shown that Paul is firstly referring to new moons, food and drink offerings, holy days and ceremonial annual Sabbaths (also called high Sabbaths (John 19:31) that all have their origin and connection to the annual feasts (e.g Passover, Feast of Unleavened Bread, Feast of First Fruits, Blowing of Trumpets, Day of Atonement and Feast of Tabernacles) These were the Shadow Sabbaths referred to in Col 2:16 which were all pointing to Jesus and nailed to the cross. As the context is the ceremonial and ecclesiastical laws.

Hope this helps the faithful Bereans that want to follow God's Word

God bless you all.
