All Christians agree what the true Christian life looks like when Christ is manifesting the fruit of His life in us. The dis-connect comes when people talk about "how is this done".

Works-based belief systems use the Old Covenant mindset to try to effect transformation in Christians. Grace-based belief relies totally on the life and work of Christ in them to transform them by His love and grace towards us.

A very big factor in looking at scripture is the "lens" you use to view the scripture.

In the Old Covenant " you had to do or else"...such as Sabbath Law keeping as well as all 613 laws.

If you do this..then I God will do that.." = conditional on the person performing. This is the Old Covenant which is now obsolete in Christ.

New Covenant =
Jesus has done it for you which empowers you to "do"

Let's take a look at a common scripture with these 2 mindsets.

Jesus said.." If you love Me, you will keep My commandments"

Old Covenant mindset = conditional on the person "doing"..

So they would read it this way.."IF you love Me you will keep My commandments"..
in their mind it's saying.."Keep My commandment and you will prove you love Me."

New Covenant mindset = it's a description of who you are in Christ.

They would see this "Jesus' love is in me so I keep His commandments"..it stems out of relationship and it is not conditional but descriptive of the believer.

1 John 4:18-19 (NASB)
[SUP]18 [/SUP]
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

[SUP]19 [/SUP]
We love, because He first loved us.

Then there is more....there seems to be more sometimes eh?

- just what are His commandments anyway?

Be perfect as My Father in heaven is perfect?...can we possibly do that?..of course not..that is Moses 2.0

Ahhh..found His commandments in the New Covenant in 1 John 3.

1 John 3:23 (NASB)
[SUP]23 [/SUP]
This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.

...the "lens" that we view scriptures greatly affects us. We try to mix the Old Covenant ( before the cross and resurrection ) with the New Covenant and we get a religious mess.

Religious traditions of men, philosophies of men, ..what we were told all our lives in church or in the world etc. ..all influence how we view scripture.

Sometimes some of our "sacred cows" can get sacrificed and it's painful.

Colossians 2:8 (NASB)
[SUP]8[/SUP] See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.

Hi Katty-follower,

Comments for your consideration

I agree. It does seem like some on here are trying to be Jewish. The Jews see Sabbath keeping as a necessary requirement, because they reject Jesus, and so are stuck under the old covenant. But there's more to this Sabbath than some realize, so I wonder if they'll admit to keeping it perfectly then? From what I know, it runs from Friday-Saturday (sunset to sunset). During that time you need to cease from all activity that's considered a work. No electricity allowed, so no turning lights on and off, no opening your fridge even, because of the fridge light, no posting on CC either, as that means use of a computer, no shaving, no driving, no traveling, and endless other restrictions.
Jesus is our example and he came to teach us about His Sabbath when he was with us. The Jews had placed so many restrictions on the Sabbath commandment that it had become a burden to the people and was nearly impossible to keep it like you were suggesting above (Luke 13:14; John 5:10-18; 9:16; etc). Jesus taught us that this was not the purpose or teaching of the Sabbath commandment from God.

(1) He taught us that the Sabbath was made for mankind and that mankind was not created for the Sabbath (Jewish restrictions) (Mark 2:27).

Jesus came to teach us that (2) He is the Lord of the Sabbath and that this is the Lord's Day (Mark 2:28)

Jesus came to (3) teach us that it is ok to enjoy the Sabbath and to do good on the Sabbath and the Jewish man traditions where not His requirements (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14)

(4) Jesus taught and fellow shipped with his people on the Sabbath (Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56).

Similar verses can be shown for the apostles after the death of Jesus (Acts 13:14; 13:27; 13:44; 15:21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:4; Rev 1:10)

And why just the Sabbath, why not acknowledge the other Jewish holidays also, such as the feasts and fast days, since they are also a Jewish requirement? At the end of the day, there's nothing wrong with picking one day over another (we're to be fully convinced in our own minds), just that there's a problem when you make Sabbath keeping a necessary requirement and then judge others that don't keep that day.
Good question. The reason is that the Jewish feast days are part of the ceremonial laws of Moses. These all pointed to the coming of Jesus. After the death of Jesus they were nailed to the cross. On the other hand the 7[SUP]th[/SUP] Day Sabbath is the 4[SUP]th[/SUP] commandment in God’s Law. It is one of God’s 10 commandment Laws written in stone by God’s own finger on tables and stone. It was the work of God and spoken by God himself to His people (Ex 20:1-17). It is the foundation of the old and new covenants and the Judgement to come. It tells us that if we break any of God’s Laws we are guilty before God as committing sin and the wages of sin is death (Rom 6:23; 1John 3:4; Rom 7:7; Rom 3:20)

The 7[SUP]th[/SUP] Day Sabbath is one of the 10 commandments written and spoken by God himself. If we break it we commit sin just like we sin if we lie or steal. God commanded us to keep it in His Word. Jesus kept it he is our example. The Apostles kept it after Jesus died. Sunday worship is a man-made teaching and tradition which has no basis in the Word of God. The question all of us need to ask ourselves is do we follow the Word of God or the teachings of man? If we follow the teachings of man we are not following Jesus. We have a warning from Jesus about this in His Word.

Mat 15:3-9

But he answered and said unto them, why do ye also transgress <SIN> the commandment of Godby your tradition? For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curses father or mother, let him die the death. But ye say, whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou might be profited by me; And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draws nigh unto me with their mouth, and honours me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Hope this is helpful to you,

Have we ever read where Jesus said that the priests who stand in the temple - break the Sabbath which is in the Law?...or that David and his men ate of the bread which was in the temple?

Matthew 12:2-6 (NASB)
[SUP]2 [/SUP]
But when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, "Look, Your disciples do what is not lawful to do on a Sabbath."

[SUP]3 [/SUP]
But He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and his companions,

[SUP]4 [/SUP]
how he entered the house of God, and they ate the consecrated bread, which was not lawful for him to eat nor for those with him, but for the priests alone?

[SUP]5 [/SUP] "Or have you not read in the Law, that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath and are innocent?

[SUP]6 [/SUP] "But I say to you that something greater than the temple is here.

Why were the priest not breaking the Sabbath law - because they were in the temple.

Why did David be able to eat of the bread? Because he was
in the temple.

This is why the true believer in Christ will not be breaking any Sabbath law because we are in the temple. Know you not that you are the temple of God?

Those that are in the temple are not breaking the Sabbath law by doing work because we are in Christ. He is the true temple of God as we are in union with Him and are one in the spirit.

Jesus Himself is our true Sabbath rest. Jesus said that all the law and the prophets speak of Him.

All the law - including the Sabbath day as outlined in the Old Testament is a shadow of the real substance which is Christ Himself. Col. 2:16-17

Until we understand the reality of our union with Christ and what that means - we will be resorting to going back to the Law and trying to live by our own flesh and we are exchanging Christ Himself for the law.

Hi Grace777,

I am free in Christ because I love him. He works in my to will and to do of his own good pleasure because I am a sinner and have Faith in His Words to save me. I only love him though because He first loved me. Do you love Jesus Grace777?

Well...repent and believe the gospel just like Jesus said to do in Mark 1:16 - come out of being a sinner and come to Christ for life and living and then you will be a saint - then you can live by grace through faith in what He has already done in His finished work on the cross and resurrection.

Then you will stop trying to Judaizing Christians into following a carnal law that has been made obsolete and to desert Christ Himself for the law.

Then you will stop trying to tell Christians that they are sinning and dis-obeying God because they don't observe the Sabbath day as in the Old Testament way.

Problems
"All Christians agree" - Obviously not.
Some say no sorrow about sin, no turning from sin to Christ.
Some say ignore how you live, just acknowledge you are in Jesus.
Some say walking righteously is impossible so accept your sin.

Straw man
Doing or being.

The problem - being is passive and by accepting this polarised view
to do somehting is now a wrong thing.

This makes obedience into something evil called "self righteousness"
rather than being a wise faithful servant of the King.

This is a philosphy of man, God commands us to act, to do, to be what
He created us to be in obedience.

Straw man
God calls us to be perfect.
If this was in everything, it would be meaningless as this is impossible.

Jesus said we should be perfect in loving our enemy as God loves His enemies. Matt 5:43-48

The whole religious confusion idea only works when you mix the wrong ideas
in the wrong way and create a problem that never existed before and then solve it.

Lenses
Whenever someone talks about lenses and disregarding simple instructions and
words from the Lord you know they are into heresy.

And once you submit to these lenses, you too believe the lie the enemy is spinning
and you will create your own delusional faith.

Conclusion
Let the word of God dwell in your heart, think upon it day and night and you will find
the path.

I believe it is the accurate hearing of Christ Himself and what He has already done by His grace and love that brings true faith which has as it's own fruit - obedience - which is to believe.

Right believing in what Christ has already done releases His empowering grace within us to live godly in this present world.

Some get that disobedience is not obeying because of some translations which says..

Hebrews 4:6 (NASB)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience,

This word for "disobedience" is really "unbelief" in Greek in Hebrews 4:6. To not believe in the finished work of Christ for living and salvation is in fact disobedience.

That's why the gospel is often called "the obedience of faith". Even good moral living law-keeping Jewish priests came to be "obedient to the faith."

Acts 6:7 (NASB)
[SUP]7 [/SUP] The word of God kept on spreading; and the number of the disciples continued to increase greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were becoming obedient to the faith.

It doesn't take long for deception to come into our midst to pervert the gospel of the grace of God in Christ's work and to try to replace Him for "law-keeping".

Acts 15:5 (NASB)
[SUP]5 [/SUP] But some of the sect of the Pharisees who had believed stood up, saying, "It is necessary to circumcise them and to direct them to observe the Law of Moses."

What was the outcome of these Judaizers' attempts to bring the Christians under bondage?

Acts 15:10-11 (NASB)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] "Now therefore why do you put God to the test by placing upon the neck of the disciples a yoke which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?

[SUP]11 [/SUP] "But we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they also are."

Notice that the outcome was that we are saved by the grace of the Lord Jesus - and not in the keeping of the sabbath day as in the Old Testament.

We will not desert Christ and commit spiritual adultery on our Lord for going back to the law no matter how many try to Judaize us Christians and try to say we "are sinning and dis-obeying God" because we don't observe the Sabbath day as in the Old Testament. Romans 7:1-7

Hi Grace777,

Now this one cracked me up a little :). Sorry I did not mean anything by that. Why do you say I do not believe the Gospel? Can you tell me what you think the Gospel is in your mind? Why do you think I do not live by Faith in His Word? It is only because of all of the above that I love Jesus and it is only by faith in His Word that he saves me. I follow Him because I love him. I only share what God's Word says. They are not my Words but the Words of Him that sent me. It is His Words that will judge us in the end days. You are just angry because you want to hold on to your traditions and teachings or man. I notice you never answered my question. Do you love Jesus Grace777?

Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, 13not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. 14But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. 15Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. 16But when onec turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. 17Now the Lordd is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

Man (hurt, bitter, aggressive)
=> sin
=> death

God
=> Jesus (love, acceptance, forgiveness)
=> Sacrifice, the cross
=> Man (repentant, cleansed, believing, forgiven)
=> Obedience
=> loving
=> Life eternal

Each step is essential, any compromise and things never work out.
So many lies are being spoken that you can ignore or shortcut steps or
reinterpret simple obligations, when it is hard because it is essential.

Imagine being saved out of a well by being thrown a rope.
You do everything you are told because that is the only way out.

Listen to Jesus and do all He says, He is God.
Anyone who contradicts Christ is not of the Lord.

I answered your question about loving Jesus in the past when I gave you my testimony so I am not into your games nor will I fall for your games.

I'm also not going to fall for your spiritual manipulation attempts as I have told you many times also in the past.

"If we love Jesus - then you will keep His commandments" - in a deceived Judaizers mind that means that you need to follow the Sabbath as in the Old Testament or you are sinning and dis-obeying God.

What is really being said - is that if you don't agree with the Judaizers deceived beliefs then you are not believing the word of God nor do you love Jesus. We don't fall for that religious nonsense of spiritual manipulation.

We are not ignorant of the enemies devices my friend and I told you we will not fall for this Judaizing and the perverting of the gospel of the grace of God in Christ.

We will not fall for your telling Christians that they are sinning and dis-obeying God because they don't observe the Sabbath day as in the Old Testament way - no matter how much you try to sugar-coat it. We will not desert Christ.

You continue to mix law and grace. :(

Sabbath keeping with all it's rules and regulations, was part of a covenant with Israel that is not applicable to Christians under the New Covenant. Even when you set out to worship on the Sabbath, are you truly "keeping the Sabbath." To "keep the Sabbath" as it was required in the Old Testament would involve compliance with regulations (Exodus 16:23; 35:3; Leviticus 23:32; Jeremiah 17:21) that were strictly enforced.

If Sabbath day observances are still required, then so are the burnt offerings which went along with them (Leviticus 19:30; 23:2-3; Numbers 28:1-10; 29:39-40; I Chronicles. 23:30-31; II Chronicles 31:2-4; Isaiah 1:13). These were commanded by God to the sons of Israel. If the seventh day Sabbath is still in affect, then why do not the Sabbatarians seek to obey ALL that the LORD commanded? How can a person say he keeps a certain law when he keeps only part of it?

If the Sabbath day laws were still in effect today, then according to Exodus 31:12-18; 35:1-3; and Numbers 15:32-36, anyone who profaned the Sabbath was put to death and any person who does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from his people. Who is going to enforce that? The Jewish synagogue? The Christian Church? The Seventh-day Adventist church? The government? Since we do not live under a theocratic state as ancient Israel did, no Sabbatarian can live consistently under the Mosaic regulations.

In Romans 14:1-23, the Apostle Paul says: "... One man regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Let each man be fully convinced in his own mind.." In other words, for the Christian, the Apostle is saying that no day is to be regarded holier than another.

Although the Torah was read every Saturday in the synagogues, the early Gentile Christians were never commanded to be circumcised, or to rest on Saturday as the Jews were (Acts 15:1-21).

Colossians 2:16 - Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day 17 things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.

The actual Sabbath day is sundown on our Friday to sundown on our Saturday.

Sabbath keeping [with all it's rules and regulations], was part of a covenant with Israel that is not applicable to Christians under the New Covenant and the Sabbath day did not change from Saturday to Sunday.

Christians worship God on Sunday (the Lord's Day), because the first day of the week became associated with Christ's resurrection (Matthew 28:1-10; Luke 24:1; John 20:1; Revelation 1:10).

We are not to get hung up on the Sabbath day, which is a shadow of things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ (Colossians 2:16-17).

If you were standing at the gates of heaven right now and Jesus Christ asked you why He should let you into heaven, what would be your EXACT answer? "Lord, Lord, I kept the Sabbath on Saturday and was consistently obedient to you?" Is that what you are TRUSTING in to receive eternal life?

Hello Ariel,

Nice to see you. I was wondering where you went to. Welcome back. So what does the above mean to you?

God bless:)
We have freedom in Christ and without the Holy spirit people read the Bible but are blinded by the veil to what God's plan for this world are.

Why would God give insight to His enemies?

The world is at enmity with God but God reveals to His children His truth and how the Bible foreshadows Jesus and His salvation plan. God tells us how Jesus is the SUBSTANCE of the feast and the Sabbaths. How we find rest in Him and how He is the true manna from Heaven. The Bible tells us how we get springs of living waters flowing from our hearts to a thirsty and dying world. God reveals how we are His ambassadors to walk alongside others on the road back Home to Him.

The ten commandments were nailed to the cross too but many people reject that.

The new Covenant has two commandments: love God and love your neighbor. The Holy spirit teaches us what that means and it does not included judging and condemning them, but loving and helping them heal and become the people God created us to be.

2 Corinthians 3
7Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses’ face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end, 8will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory? 9For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, the ministry of righteousness must far exceed it in glory.

The ten commandments were carved in stone and is called the ministry of condemnation.

Jesus is in deed the substance of the Sabbath. He is the maker and owner of the Sabbath and he has commanded us to keep it through His Word. The annual feast days, New moon annual Sabbath, meat and drink offering however are not required because they are part of the ceremonial laws of Moses that I shared with you from Lev 23 that were nailed to the cross in Col 2:14. God's Word teaches us the we do not enter into his rest if we do not believe His Word.

God bless

Where they really? The 10 commandments were nailed to the cross in that Jesus paid the price for our sins nothing more and nothing less. However it was the laws of Moses that are no longer binding. God's Law (10 commandments) however are forever. They are the foundation of the Old Covenant, the New Covenant and the Judgement to come. If we continue in sin we count the blood of the covenant an unholy thing and if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Ok time to rest for me I will be back latter. Welcome back and goodnight everyone my time:)

God bless

If we love God and our neighbor, we are keeping the ten commandments.
