"Earnest money" is a deposit, it is NEVER a guarantee, and the use of the word "guarantee" is an unfortunate mistranslation used based on the biases of the translators. A deposit is valid only if conditions continue to be met. An engagement ring is a sign of earnest, signifying things to come ONLY IF conditions continue to be met.
I believe the translations, along with the Vine's Dictionary of NT Words. Maybe it's your bias that keeps you from accepting the truth. The condition to be met is to believe the gospel (Ephesians 1:13-14).

Here comes the straw man argument. I didn't mention anything about the sinner's prayer joined with unfaithfulness. 1 John 5:4 - For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith. This is faith that continues and is not some shallow, temporary belief that has no root, produces no fruit and withers away.
Amen and the Spirit sealing someone is the down payment on our ETERNAL INHERITANCE<-------KEY WORD and it does say sealed unto the DAY of REDEMPTION......NOT SEALED until we sin or fall short.........geesh!

2 Corinthians 1:21 HCSB - "He has also sealed us and given us the Spirit as a down payment in our hearts." The word "guarantee" is a misnomer. "Earnest" money or a down payment is valid only if conditions continue to be met. If conditions don't continue to be met, the deal's off.
Again: Vine's Expository Dictionary of NT Words

<1,,728, arrabon> originally, "earnest-money" deposited by the purchaser and forfeited if the purchase was not completed, was probably a Phoenician word, introduced into Greece. In general usage it came to denote "a pledge" or "earnest" of any sort; in the NT it is used only of that which is assured by God to believers; it is said of the Holy Spirit as the Divine "pledge" of all their future blessedness, 2 Corinthians 1:22; 5:5; in Ephesians 1:14; 4:30 particularly of their eternal inheritance.

2 Corinthians 1:21 - Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, 22 set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

2 Corinthians 5:5 - Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

Ephesians 1:13 - In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. Praise God! :)

Colossians 1:21-23:
21 And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds,22 he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him,23 if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel.
The word "if" here is not ean, an unfulfilled, hypothetical condition used with the subjunctive mode, presenting the possibility of a future realization, but ei with the indicative, having here the idea of "assuming that you continue in the faith."

That is, continuance would show that the person's faith is firmly established in the hope of the gospel and they really HAVE BEEN reconciled. The form of this phrase in Greek (using the Greek particle ei and the indicative mood of the verb epimenō) indicates that Paul fully expects that the Colossian believers will continue in the faith; no doubt is expressed, yet what about "nominal" Christians whose shallow, temporary belief withers away?

It's only natural that Paul would speak this way, for he is addressing groups of people who profess to be Christians, without being able to know the actual state of every person's heart. How can Paul avoid giving them false assurance here that they will be eternally saved when in fact they may not? Paul knows that faith which is firmly grounded and established in the gospel from the start will continue. Those who continue in the faith show thereby that they are genuine believers. But those who do not continue show that their shallow faith was not grounded in the gospel to begin with.

Just as we read in 1 Corinthians 15:1,2 - Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you--unless you believed in vain.

To believe in vain is to believe without cause or without effect, to no purpose. If, as some are saying in Corinth, there is no resurrection, then faith is vain and worthless (vs. 14). The people who fail to hold fast to the word (the gospel) that Paul preached in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, demonstrated that they "believed in vain" (did not truly believe).

It's conditional!!!!
IF gives confirmation they were genuine believers.

I know you would like to rewrite the Bible Jason, but I am not interested in your rewrite when you strip Jesus of His divinity, which is explicitly stated. I always find it so odd when you try to tell others that they must accept what Scripture teaches. Your response to someone just a short time ago about believing only parts of what Paul wrote brought this back to me again, because you only accept parts of what John wrote; you do not trust him enough to accept the full testimony of his gospel or the full weight of Scripture as a whole, which bears out the truth of Who Jesus really is. In chapter eight Jesus is discussing this with with the scribes and pharisees, and He tells them they will die in their sins if they do not believe Who He is. Oh, I know, your response, you will say He said He was the Son of Man and the Son of God even but that is not all Jesus said, you just cannot absorb the rest of it for some reason.
lol magents ok well peace to you anyways figured id try again either Jesus is the Only begotten Son of God, or He isnt. thats the Faith of Cristianity that God the Father who is sporit, had a Son named Jesus and Gave Him as a sacrifice for salvation. that cannot be denied and one still be saved its everything Our faith is. Jesus the Only begotten Son of God. i will leave it alone though take care either way and God Loves you

A deposit is valid only if conditions continue to be met. An engagement ring is a sign of earnest, signifying things to come ONLY IF conditions continue to be met.
That is a good illustration concerning the engagement ring, for they are not married yet,and not a guarantee that they will get married, seeing they could have a fallen out,and not be compatible anymore, and call off the wedding.

Or if someone puts something on credit, fails to pay along the way,the item will go back to the owner.

Someone gets probation, does not comply along the way, goes to jail.

If people in deals like that do not continue in what they started, the whole thing is called off,and null and void.

The Bible says the same thing.

Jesus said, any person having out their hand to the plough, looking back,is not fit for the kingdom of God.

Which there is only one way to interpret this.If any person starts living for God wanting to represent goodness, and abstain from worldliness, but looks back to that lifestyle admiring it,and wanting it,is not fit for the kingdom of God.

Which is why the Bible says if any person does not continue in the goodness of God,will be cut off.

When we confess our sins, and do not want sin anymore, but to represent goodness, and be Christlike, and receive the Spirit,if we do not continue in that calling, and lifestyle, then it is called off,and their salvation becomes null and void.

Rev 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
Rev 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Rev 3:2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
Rev 3:3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

What is interesting is looking at what Luther and Calvin thought of imputed righteousness.

For me the issue is simple. Christ is our righteous example, through whom we are washed clean,
purified and redeemed so we can walk righteously. It appears both Calvin and Luther could not
accept a righteous walk was possible so have varying theories as to how righteousness is imputed
to us.

My issue is simple, if faith is all that differentiates between sinner and saint, how can God tell
whether the words are real or just window dressing? Surely the whole value of faith is its
effect on ones life, or else it is all vanity, a show for the stage, to appear one thing while being
another, the hypocracy of the self-righteous and powerful, who appear one way and behave
another.

Interestingly the mystical union with Christ and the righteousness this implies is used by some
to imply that is how imputation works, like an infusion. It appears RCC follow a sacramental
infusion concept which over time brings the believer to a righteous walk.

It is something that there appears to be no true camp, but lots of shades of grey, lol

Right. We continue to be a new creation by what we believe, not by what we do. Ours works simply prove we are still believing in Christ. Which is the same believing we started to have when we first got saved. It's not new believing. It's a continued believing that began when we first believed--continued believing that keeps the one-time sacrifice of Christ, which is always on the altar in heaven, and Christ the High Priest who lives forevermore, interceding on our behalf. Stop believing and you no longer have that sacrifice and ministry 'remaining' to deal with your sin (Hebrews 10:26). You have nothing left but to look forward to the wrath that only faith in Christ can rescue you from.

It's not a works earned salvation. You just keep hearing it that way. Really.

You only know what you've been taught, and you, like so many Christians, are simply incapable of understanding any thought about works in salvation outside of your own. Been there, done that. I know what I'm talking about. It's called 'indoctrination'. One of the signs of spiritual maturity is to be able to consider thought outside of your own thinking, believing, and experiences. It starts by knowing that we have to go with what the Bible says, not what even theologically schooled, respected leaders are telling us. That's a big leap for most Christians, but it's one you're going to have to make. You have to be a Berean without predetermined doctrines guiding your Bible reading to discern spiritual truth. Learning does not equate to spiritual truth, unbiased and impartial HONESTY does. That means being willing to acknowledge when a respected leader in the church teaches something that does not jibe with what you have read for yourself in the Bible.

And what did John ALSO say about 'His commandments'?
He said the person who says he knows God but does not keep His commandments IS A LIAR.

"4The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him" (1 John 2:4 NASB)

That makes works necessary in salvation. Not as the way to earn salvation, as you seem to only be able to hear what works in salvation means, but as the obligatory and natural outcome of one who has had the old man crucified in his most inner part.

I would be shocked if you STILL disagree with this and continue to assign what I'm saying to a 'works earn salvation' argument.
thats really Great stuff phart.

I too have been there done that and it leaves a person wondering " where is all the change im supposed to be experiencing? where is this righteousness God speaks of? why am i still doing the same things ive always done? why are my actions no different from a non believer? why do i have to skip over all that stuff about repentance ? why cant i be like God is saying i can be and where is this Spirit of Power that i read so much about?

when faith is present it changes everything. when a believer steps out of the boat and walks toward Jesus actually taking the steps because they trust Him fully it changes everything in Life and the real fruit starts growing where the rotten fruit used to be now there are juicy plump tasty healthy eatable fruit. and no longer o we see those repentance and obedience things as a terrible idea or a works for alvation missed grace thing, it causes faith to soar and new life to begin manifesting. so that thoise things we never could escape or overcome or repent of just lose thier Grip on us the willingness to commit to acting the part changes it all. changes life itself.

God bless you for that good comment

Amen and the Spirit sealing someone is the down payment on our ETERNAL INHERITANCE<-------KEY WORD and it does say sealed unto the DAY of REDEMPTION......NOT SEALED until we sin or fall short.........geesh!
Amen!

Ephesians 1:14 ESV
English Standard Version - who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

Ephesians 1:14 KJV
King James Version - Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Ephesians 1:14 NIV
New International Version - who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory.

Ephesians 1:14 NKJV
New King James Version - who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

Ephesians 1:14 CJB
Complete Jewish Bible - who guarantees our inheritance until we come into possession of it and thus bring him praise commensurate with his glory.

That's good enough for me. "Guaranteeing our inheritance" Unto/For/Until "the day of redemption." I guess that God's guarantee is no good for some people?

Thank you Jason, and the same to you. Jesus died for your sins and lack of belief, but you must come to believe before you can be saved from the consequence of your sin, which is the second eternal death.

Also, Jason, I do not deny that Jesus is the Son of God :)

Nor do I deny that God is the only Rock of our salvation and no
other name besides JESUS is given by which we might be saved :)

Jesus is not God’s Son in the sense of a human father and a son. God did not get married and have a son. God did not mate with Mary and, together with her, produce a son. Jesus is God’s Son in the sense that He is God made manifest in human form (
John 1:1, 14). Jesus is God's Son in that He was conceived in Mary by the Holy Spirit. Luke 1:35 declares, “The angel answered, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.’”

During His trial before the Jewish leaders, the High Priest demanded of Jesus, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God” (
Matthew 26:63). “’Yes, it is as you say,’ Jesus replied. ‘But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven’” (Matthew 26:64). The Jewish leaders responded by accusing Jesus of blasphemy (Matthew 26:65-66).

Later, before Pontius Pilate, “The Jews insisted, ‘We have a law, and according to that law He must die, because He claimed to be the Son of God’” (
John 19:7). Why would His claiming to be the Son of God be considered blasphemy and be worthy of a death sentence? The Jewish leaders understood exactly what Jesus meant by the phrase “Son of God.”

To be the Son of God is to be of the same nature as God. The Son of God is “of God.” The claim to be of the same nature as God—to in fact be God—was blasphemy to the Jewish leaders; therefore, they demanded Jesus’ death, in keeping with
Leviticus 24:15. Hebrews 1:3expresses this very clearly, “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being.”

Another example can be found in
John 17:12 where Judas is described as the “son of perdition.” John 6:71 tells us that Judas was the son of Simon. What does John 17:12 mean by describing Judas as the “son of perdition”? The word perdition means “destruction, ruin, waste.” Judas was not the literal son of “ruin, destruction, and waste,” but those things were the identity of Judas' life. Judas was a manifestation of perdition. In this same way, Jesus is the Son of God. The Son of God is God. Jesus is God made manifest (John 1:1, 14).

I believe the translations, along with the Vine's Dictionary of NT Words. Maybe it's your bias that keeps you from accepting the truth. The condition to be met is to believe the gospel (Ephesians 1:13-14).
again, if there was more demands Paul would have mentioned in Eph 1,

there s no demand and other than to hear the word, and then have assurance (Faith) in the word, the moment you do this you are sealed with the spirit. End of story

There is no grey area in....David described the blessedness of the man to whom GOD IMPUTES RIGHTEOUSNESS WITHOUT THE DEEDS OF THE LAW (works).......just simply believe it and trust it instead of denying it, arguing against it and standing opposed to GOD<---NOW that is called FAITH....and IT SAVES eternally!

It is not sin that causes us to lose salvation in the sense that we can repent of it,and it is off our record.

It is holding unto sin that will cause us to lose out on salvation.

If they wilfully sin, hold unto sin,and not give it up,the sacrifice of Jesus cannot wash that sin away, for they are keeping it.

If they believe they cannot abstain from sin,and sin does not affect their relationship with Jesus, who told them they were sealed unto the day of redemption, for it seems like it is they have a form of godliness, but deny the power thereof, ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

And that is they never come to the truth that sin does affect their relationship with Jesus, and they are lovers of pleasures, more than lovers of God,and neglect the poor and needy with them going by their wants, which the love of God does not dwell in them.

They hold unto sin,and love money, and material things, and worldlines, and neglect the poor and needy, but think they are still right with God.

So who told them they were sealed unto the day of redemption.

Anybody that says they cannot abstain from sin,and sin does not affect their relationship with God,they will hold unto sin,and the blood of Jesus cannot wash it away, and there are millions of people who live according to the flesh enjoying this world, but think they are right with God.

It is not sin that will cause us to lose salvation in the sense we can be forgiven for it,and be right.

It is holding unto sin,and believing we are still right with God,that can cause us to lose salvation.

And there are millions of people that do that.

If a person says they cannot abstain from sin,and sin does not affect their relationship with God,where do people think they place.

So who told them they were sealed unto the day of redemption, when those that name the name of Christ has to depart from iniquity, awake to righteousness, and sin not, which Paul said some do not have the knowledge of God,and that is to their shame, and do not depart from the living God,by the deceitfulness of sin.

If they spend money on their wants, and not only their needs, and neglect the poor and needy, the love of God does not dwell in them.

Love is the fulfilling of the law,but love does not think an evil thought, and does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth.

If they hold unto sin they have erred from the truth, are a sinner, and have to be converted, and their soul is not in a position of being saved.

thats not at all what He or anyone else is saying. thats what the gog sees when they hear the dreaded repent and obey doctrine that floods the pages of the Bible. you guys have no choice but to distort what someone says because you have no reasoning to omit all the very plain and clear scripture its just the same circle you go in doesnt matter is its you or any other grace alone modern distortion and omission believer. you guys never ever answer anything that shows you that doctrine is a lie you just twist and accuse people of what they arent saying its really no ones fault that false doctrines are deceiving people we were warned about it repeatedly about 2000 years ago in the unchanging word of God. stuff Like this

2 thessolonians 2:11-12 "And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

and this which was important enough for paul to write Just before His death in Hois final letter to the church

2 timothy 4: 1-5 "I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4And they shall turn away theirears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 5But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry."

thats really the gog in a nut shell, turning your ears away from the truth so that you cannot Hear because you have stored up all those false teachings in your mind about How God will never judge us on our deeds, How grace is just not Grace if all that repent and do whats right stuff is applicable, How a person is saved unconditionally regardless of what they do, How faith is Just to think something is true, How " good works" are just not a part of anything, How God will never turn away from anyone. its the exact same thing that caused Gods wrath to come to isreal they ignored all the warnings and said " Gods to good, were chosen Hell never recompense our iniquity on Our heads were His chosen" Thats when God finally said alright have it your way now you will Know my wrath and ill make you an example to all the world that i am God. you will be destroyed but for a remnant in the end which i will save because they will see what you got for your belief that i will not keep my word of punishment. its no different now

its the fable doctrine the fantasy, the destitute of truth doctrine, the itching ears doctrine. sound doctrine was already there from Jesus forward and its all relevant the gog believes about 15 percent of whats there the rest, well naw thats not grace so its not for me. its terrible to see how deeply rotted it is already, troubling and i pray that God guards those who would be saved from falling into that pit it seems it must be really hard to climb out. doesnt leave anyone lost it just means they gotts abandon that lie and receive the truth about repentance and righteousness because thats what will determine things in the end. if one has faith, they will have no worries when it comes time to answer for thier deeds because thier deeds will be upright and acceptable to God who Gave His Only Sons Life over to suffering to redeem us from the Lie of sin.

if a person says i have faith and refuses repentance they too will then have no excuse for all they have to answer for. Having Jesus Means youve Been made able to Live right thats what you guys gotta see. righteousness isnt a hidden thing that never comes to fruition, its something that is expressed from inside out and the actions will match, but that comes through first acknowledging your sins and turning from them because of the sorrow they are meant to produce. there is no doctrine that supports continuoing in sin, or makes sinning irrelevant to salvation. theres no doctrine that says " even if you sin, its really not sin because you are above Gods word of righteousness and sin.

There is no magical grace that transforms a person when they refuse to even accept that God says repent and do the deeds you are taught by My Word. those are all those typoes of things were warned about. the only true doctrine is found in the bible when you accept all the principles that are there. Grace, real faith, repentance, right actions, true Love for AGod which is to obey Him, and true Love for others which is to obey Gods commands. to fear God because He is God, to understand Yes, God will indeed come and destroy the ungodly and those who follow unrighteousness, those who continue on living in see, though He made them free of its power over them. the only real true doctrine is that which brings a sinner to repentance and right living. no truth to any doctrine that has to omit more than it will accept. we can say Gods good a million times, but how we Live is our ultimate Judgement.

thats really the gog in a nut shell, turning your ears away from the truth so that you cannot Hear because you have stored up all those false teachings in your mind about How God will never judge us on our deeds, How grace is just not Grace if all that repent and do whats right stuff is applicable, How a person is saved unconditionally regardless of what they do, How faith is Just to think something is true, How " good works" are just not a part of anything, How God will never turn away from anyone. its the exact same thing that caused Gods wrath to come to isreal they ignored all the warnings and said " Gods to good, were chosen Hell never recompense our iniquity on Our heads were His chosen" Thats when God finally said alright have it your way now you will Know my wrath and ill make you an example to all the world that i am God. you will be destroyed but for a remnant in the end which i will save because they will see what you got for your belief that i will not keep my word of punishment. its no different now

its the fable doctrine the fantasy, the destitute of truth doctrine, the itching ears doctrine. sound doctrine was already there from Jesus forward and its all relevant the gog believes about 15 percent of whats there the rest, well naw thats not grace so its not for me. its terrible to see how deeply rotted it is already, troubling and i pray that God guards those who would be saved from falling into that pit it seems it must be really hard to climb out. doesnt leave anyone lost it just means they gotts abandon that lie and receive the truth about repentance and righteousness because thats what will determine things in the end. if one has faith, they will have no worries when it comes time to answer for thier deeds because thier deeds will be upright and acceptable to God who Gave His Only Sons Life over to suffering to redeem us from the Lie of sin.

if a person says i have faith and refuses repentance they too will then have no excuse for all they have to answer for.

Is it "gog" doctrine to believe that Jesus is God?

FYI..,i have no issues with the doctrine of repent and obey.

Just wondering about this "gog doctrine" spoken of.

Also who exactly are people obeying?

If Jesus isn't God, then who exactly are you obeying?

Does the Bible say the same thing if you don't accept Jesus as God?
