What does God ask of us to DO after we have submitted to HIS authority?

How are we different than the world, if we have truly been born again?
Hi Ariel,

What a superb question that deserves a clap of hands! :) I'm sure we could all come up with many scriptures that speak of what we are now that we're born-again.

Some of us don't realize what we are, who we are in Christ, therefore we don't act on it. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.

We need to read God's word and believe what He says we are. And walk it out in the new man, the new creation we are .......allowing the Spirit to lead and guide us into all truth.

We are a new creature in Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17

We have a new self created in righteousness and holiness of truth in the likeness of God.
Ephesians 4:24

We've been given a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience as we bear with one another and forgive each other. And we have love that's the perfect bond of unity. Colossians 3:12-14

Our old self is crucified with Christ so that we're no longer slaves to sin. Romans 6:6

We have a new man, we're being renewed to a true knowledge according to Christ. Colossians 3:10

We put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the fleshly lusts. Romans 13:14

We are being transformed into the glory of Jesus, from glory to glory - like Moses when his face shone brightly when unveiled. We are a mirror for the world to see the glory of the Lord. When they see us, they see Jesus. 2 Corinthians 3:18

We're a branch that receives life from the vine and bears much fruit; by abiding we love Jesus and obey his commands. As long as we're abiding we'll always be fruitful. John 15: 1-10

Because we're born of God we are overcomes and gain victory over the world through our faith. 1 John 5:4

Our inner man is renewed each and every day, therefore we don't lose heart. 2 Corinthians 4:16

We don't keep on sinning as we did in our old life because God's seed abides in us and we can't continue on in a sinful lifestyle because we're born of God. 1 John 3:9

We have a new heart and a new spirit, no longer a heart of stone, but a heart of flesh.
Ezekiel 11:19

Through the Holy Spirit we are strengthened with power in our inner man. Ephesians 3:16

We're steadfast and patient being strengthened by His powerful glorious might. Colossians 1:11

We have peace that passes our understanding that guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, we have the true knowledge of Christ that gives wisdom in every circumstance of life, we have the fullness of joy that's overflowing, unending forgiveness, abundant life in Him, power to do what He's called us to do, patience as we wait on Him, kindness towards one another and towards our enemy, and etc, etc etc.

We could all add to this list and we'd be bringing praise, honor and blessings to the Lord beyond measure as we walk them out in His truth and in His power that He abundantly bestows upon us. Glory Hallelujah! Jesus has set us free!!! :)

Can an I respond like Stephen does?

"Your wrong on all points"

he seems to think it works, maybe it will hear too?

naa,, but it is still true, your wrong on all points.

But unlike him, I will sprain why. Think so,

When you focus on us on your identity I. Christ, your also focusing on who he is, and you realize, you still have a long way to go, this prevents you from becoming stagnant, and stunt in your growth, and forces you to continue to "run the race" as Paul puts it, bcause every time you see Christ, you see self, and well, they just do not match up,

your position in Christ gives you the courage to continue to run that race, because if your honest with yourself apart from that, when you see you as compared to Christ, you would feel hopeless, or have to lie to yourself about how truly like Christ you are.
ive read the "it is finished" mantra from the easy graces that you run with dozens of times on this forum...if you don't align with them, then you tell me what Jesus meant by "it is finished"....dig deep and be blessed

Nooo, you're wrong, & the Bible proves it.

1 Corinthians 5:8
New American Standard Bible
Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven,
nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Matthew 16
11“How is it that you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? But beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” 12Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

And your "likes" are wrong, too.:p
yes, in these instances, leaven was used in reference to sin. but, in Galatians 5- 9, and also in Matthew 13-33. it does mean sin.

if you think that leaven means sin in every instance, many commentaries say otherwise... biblehub.com Galatians 5-9 commentaries.

A little leaven (μικρὰ ζύμη)A proverbial warning, which appears also 1 Corinthians 5:6. It refers, not to the doctrine of the false teachers, but to the false teachers themselves. Comp. Mark 8:15. With the single exception of the parable, Matthew 13:33, leaven, in Scripture, is always a symbol of evil. Comp. Exodus 12:15, Exodus 12:19; Exodus 13:3, Exodus 13:7; Exodus 23:18; Leviticus 2:11; Deuteronomy 16:3. This, however, is no warrant for the nonsense which has been deduced from it, as that Jesus' parable of the leaven contains a prophecy of the corruption of Christianity. Because leaven in Scripture is habitually the type of corruption, we are "none the less free to use it in a good sense as Christ did. One figure need not always stand for one and the same thing. The devil is 'a roaring lion,' but Christ is also 'the lion of the tribe of Judah'" (Trench). It is an apt figure of secret, pervading energy, whether bad or good. A new interest is given to the figure by Pasteur's discovery that fermentation is a necessary consequence of the activity and growth of living organisms. A very few of these Judaising intruders are sufficient to corrupt the whole church.

Matthew Poole's Commentary
This is a proverbial expression, which (as others of that nature) is applicable in more cases than one. The apostle made use of it, 1 Corinthians 5:6, to persuade that church to purge their communion, by casting out the incestuous person: he maketh use of it here to persuade them to take heed of admitting any principles of false doctrine, which he compareth to leaven, (as our Saviour does, Matthew 16:6,12), and that very fitly, both in regard of the sour and of the diffusive nature of it; the latter of which is here chiefly intended; the truths of God having such dependence one upon another, that he who erreth in any one doctrine of faith, seldom continueth long sound as to other points.

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible
A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. A proverbial expression pretty much in use with the Jews; see 1 Corinthians 5:6, respecting either persons or things; and is in answer to, or prevents an objection that might be made, or something that might be said, in favour of these churches; that their case was not so bad, or the danger they were in so great, as was represented by the apostle; since they were only a few persons that propagated this notion, and but few that received it, at least thoroughly gave into it; and that, if it was an error, it was but a small one, and only regarded a single ritual, or a few rituals of the law; to which the apostle replies, by supposing, but not granting this to be the case, since they were pretty generally declined, and the error was not a slight one, that as a little sour leaven influences and ferments a large mass, or lump of dough, and makes it of the same nature with it, so a small error in doctrine, as it may be thought to be, increases to more ungodliness, and eats as doth a canker; and though a few hands may be first concerned in propagating it, and but few be infected with it, yet these may soon spread the contagion through the whole society: wherefore errors and false teachers should be nipped in the bud, and stopped in their beginnings, how inconsiderable soever they and their tenets may be judged to be.

Expositor's Greek Testament
Galatians 5:9. Leaven became a type of moral and spiritual corruption in virtue of the fermentation it engenders. A very small lump might readily form a centre of widespread corruption; so stringent precautions were adopted in Jewish households for the removal of every particle before the days of unleavened bread. Hence the origin of the proverb quoted here and in 1 Corinthians 5:6. It is clear that the taint of heresy had not yet spread widely through the Galatian Churches: it was more its insidious nature than its actual extent that alarmed the Apostle.

Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges
9. Leaven is that small portion of fermented dough which is introduced into the fresh lump of dough, and communicates lightness to the whole mass. It is employed figuratively in Scripture to denote the working of both good and bad influences, and is used both of persons and of principles or teaching—comp. Matthew 16:12; Luke 13:21. There is a reference, sometimes tacit, sometimes express (1 Corinthians 5:8), to the typical prohibition of the use of leaven in the law of Moses, Exodus 12:15-20; Exodus 12:34. This verse, which occurs again, 1 Corinthians 5:6, seems to have passed into a proverb. There the Apostle is condemning the toleration of a single act of open immorality in a member of the Church of Christ. It was the concession of a principle, and whether it be followed by other similar acts or not, the standard of Christian morality will be lowered, and a laxity of tone will gradually pervade the spirit, and degrade the practice, of those who are called ‘not unto uncleanness but unto holiness’. Here the warning is against the insidious nature of the false teaching of the Judaizing leaders. The difference between that teaching and ‘the truth of the Gospel’ may appear inconsiderable, and the teachers themselves may be insignificant in numbers or in authority. But error, once admitted, is a virus which will gradually spread and poison the whole system of doctrine, or the whole spiritual life of the individual or of the Church.

With all love Magenta, you are a brave woman, a fierce warrior for the truth. I love that about my you!!!

Sometimes we step out in faith and we learn...we do learn!!
Thank you, UnderGrace, that is very kind of you to say

As I said, it was not my plan :) I had been communicating with a young man on myspace and youtube who did a really awesome rendition of Mason Williams' Classical Gas; he was having difficulty dealing with some of the unwarranted criticism, and in the process of supporting him, I began to wonder how people got to know each other on such sites, because I was largely unaware of there being discussion boards... and then I happened to notice that there were such boards on myspace, and there was a religion forum among them, so I joined in, and was immediately reviled simply for being a Christian :D

There was little moderation there. When I would tell my daughter some of the things people said to me, she wondered how I could stand it, but all glory goes to God! I was a member for a period of four years, until the site was sold and all the boards taken down on October 26th of 2011, so that the site could be reclaimed for its original purpose of musicians connecting with other musicians. Facebook was an the rise at that time, as myspace faded into oblivion for a while.

Shortly after that, I joined another apologetics site, this time Christian owned and run, but again mainly testifying to non-believers of many stripes in the atheist/agnostic/secular humanism section. They seemed a much more hardened in a sophisticated sort of way bunch of people. I was there for three years before looking for something new and finding this site :) I was three years into my faith when I started doing apologetics in 2007 :) I found it interesting, engaging, and challenging on many levels, and highly rewarding, because I learned so much about many things, not the least of which being the revealed written Word of God :)

correct

but other commentaries, such as the pulpit commentary, Barnes's notes on the Bible, ellicots commentary, and Jamieson-fausset -brown commentary agree with me.

I know that this can be hard for some to get, but ( gasp!!) it is possible for things to have different meanings in different situations.

I am saying that you are right in the verses you use. I am saying that I am right in the case of Galatians 5- 9 and Matthew 13-33. could you say that we are both correct also?? or is that asking too much?

ive read the "it is finished" mantra from the easy graces that you run with dozens of times on this forum...if you don't align with them, then you tell me what Jesus meant by "it is finished"....dig deep and be blessed
it is finished.

1. What was the cross for? The payment of sin,

2. What did Jesus came to do? Fulfill the law

3. What did God need to do to restor mankind to himself and bring him back into a relationship?

It is finished. Accomplished all of those things,

i know, you like many others think we have our part to do, that Jesus did not pay for all sin, we have to pay for our own, well when you see Jesus, you can explain to him why you "deserve" to be let into heaven. But don't look for me, I will already be there, why? Jesus answered the question. "It is finished". (Also it is a Greek judicial statement, tetelesti meant "paid in full" and was wore by people who broke the law and their sin debt. Was paid for. "It is finished"

i can walk with God, grow with God, learn to become Christlike and run the race with Paul and all of Gods other children, why? It is finished.

What it does not mean? "I did my part, now you do yours!"

Hi SBG...One of my biggest sins was alcohol...I used it and abused it, by nature i am a very laid back person, due to my nature as i was growing up i was abused in all the areas that abuse covers :(...My Mother died when i was 18 months old, this led me to grow up in the care system, through my growing up years and late in to my forties up untill 18 months ago when i got saved i lived under the mental health system, i was very sick and the devil had his hand on me, i reached for the bottle time and time again, sleeping more then awake, causing fights while drunk, so angry at the abusers i took it out on my self...After becoming saved, i still reached for the bottles, cans, bars etc, was even addicted to speed the drug, but now the Lord has broken them chains, so every time i went for the bottle, i would wake up feeling so ashamed because walking with the Lord my sins had now started to bother me, so in stead of waking up from the drink and going on, i would wake up full of remorse because i felt the pain of the cross...Ii started to fall on my knees crying out to God in godly sorrow, it was my actions while i was drinking that were wrong, my language, my behavior towards people, i felt God correcting these things in me which caused me to repent, and now the gaps between the drinking are so far apart that i am still in awe...:)...I am always aware now if i am around drink, the Lord calls this to my mind...I hope i have explained this enough, and by the way, our Faithful Father broke the addiction to speed 8 years before i even knew the Lord \o/ Praise God ...xox...
Amen, praise God for your deliverance! I join with you in praise, for He is good and faithful, drawing near to the brokenhearted and lifting those who fall. Jesus came to seek and save the lost! We are cut from the same cloth. Welcome to the fold! May you never be de-pleated :)
