Exactly what I said we do not strive for salvation, Amen

Yet....

The branch does not strive it receives, it cannot control if the rain will fall, if it will be fertilized, nor how much sunshine it receives.

It can only stand there and be catered to. It cannot even really control its own fruitfulness. It can only grow and produce in its season.

Our job is to be persuaded, to remember who we are in Christ (not strive) and have faith in what He has done and what He has promised to do.

The soil we have sprung from is salvation through Christ crucified. He died for our sins while we were yet sinners

5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, 7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.

These qualities come from remembering who were are in Christ
Hi undergrace,

Jesus tells us to strive to enter the narrow gate.

Your quote in 2 Peter is telling us what we need to add to our faith. We are to do this. We are to work with the Lord and the Spirit and actively grow in Christ. It's His power within us that enables us to add those things to our faith.

1 Timothy 4:6-11
In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following. But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness; for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. It is a trustworthy statement deserving full acceptance. For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of believers. Prescribe and teach these things.

Not only are we to work and strive, but this is to be taught to believers; it's also the Lord's prescription for Godly living to labor and strive.

There are two teachings concerning the atonement...penal subsitution and Christus Victor...,you should spend your time waiting to look up both.

God knows our hearts. Our works don't prove we are saved to God but is a way for God to lead others back to Him,

We obey God so that we grow up and become more mature in Him. The more we obey, the more we are entrusted with...God only gives those He trust good works..not as a test but as a blessing and a way to share His love with others,
Hi Ariel,

John 15:8 My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.

John 8:31,32 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

Our works, deeds, fruit, obedience do prove that we are His children.

Not only would they reject God after having seen Him, but they do, & they have. The Bible tells us that man is without exvuse because everywhere in creation shows He is.

That's why the doctrine of "so others can see Jesus in you" is a false one. They saw Him in the flesh. They saw Him perform miracles. They saw Him teach. Yet, He was still despised and rejected.

You have been given the gift of saving faith by God, & you have chosen to accept that gift. Your eyes were opened so that you could see The Truth. Hallelujah! - is really all I can say to that! :)

Thank you for your post.

Proves to the world...not to God

I think it's both.

All things bring glory to Him. So in that sense as we're being proved.

John says the Father is glorified so I do believe it's proof to Him as well because it brings Him glory, honor and praise.

When He tests the genuineness of our faith, I believe it brings Him great joy when the testing of our faith proves genuine. :) And I also believe the angels in heaven are rejoicing as well.

Another country heard from!!
It's very nice to meet you Terrie! :)

I've never heard that doctrine so I can't talk about it.

Do you think men are given the gift of saving faith and then they reject it? That their eyes are opened so they can see the truth and then they reject it? I can't quite picture having seen God existed one day as I did and then saying, I don't care...who would DO that? To suddenly see there IS someone larger than this hard and often miserable existence and then to choose the miserable existence and reject the someone larger is something I can't fathom.
