Those reading along will see that you refuse to answer my question.

I don't blame you BTW.

it would not be to your advantage.

Fran, he's not doing anything that's 'convenient' for himself or his response. He's actually being very true to what he believes. He's attempted in earnest to explain genuinely these notions to you in the most constructive, patient way possible.

Works will be tested, what we build on will either be precious or crap.
The crap will be burned up and shown to be useless BUT we will escape through the fire, be saved.
They told the Jews that the gas chambers were showers too, it made it easier to get them to go in.

Actually it reminds me of a question asked this week at VBS.,,

.Since Peter denied Jesus three times, does that condemn him to hell?

Would he have gone to hell if he didn't do any good works after his denial of Jesus?

Was his good works what saved him?

Or was it faith in Jesus?
Ooh ooh I know this one.

please miss please miss can I answer the question?

It was Jesus who saved him.

Peter was a wreck after he denied him.
Then after Jesus rose again he sought Peter out.
He asked Peter 3 times (I wonder if that corresponds with 3 denials) do you love me?
The 1st 2 times Jesus asked do you Agape me and Peter responded I Phileo you.
The 3rd time Jesus asked do you Phileo me then Peter got upset and said you know I Phileo you.

Peter at that time didn't have the resource within himself to love Jesus unconditionally.
But Jesus still said "Feed my sheep"

It seems to me that even though Peter let Jesus down big time Jesus knew his heart even if it was limited at the time.
We then see Peter grow from Phileo to Agape.

Peter knew that Jesus saved him and loved him where was at, and then went to do good works because Jesus asked him to.

So Jesus knew Peters heart asked him to stuff because he lived him and knew him

I agree with you on saved by grace through faith in Christ's work when we hear the message of Him.
That is what the Scripture says.
I believe that there are Christians because of bad teaching can be deceived into thinking they must do good works to be saved or to remain saved - but they are still Christians or they could be as only God knows the heart of man.
There are many who consider themselves Christians that are not saved, but any one who is deceived into thinking he needs to add works to be saved, Paul makes clear is severed from Christ, but you're right only God knows the true heart of man which is wicked. Either we have all our faith in Jesus or we don't.
Acts 15:7-9 (NASB)
[SUP]7 [/SUP] After there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, "Brethren, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles would hear the word of the gospel and believe.

[SUP]8 [/SUP] "And God, who knows the heart, testified to them giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us;

[SUP]9 [/SUP] and He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith.
Yes, but those people weren't putting their faith in their works to be saved; otherwise, they would be very disappointed. This is Satan's doing to turn souls away from Christ

For me, I was saved The moment I had faith, and God declared me righteous as he did abraham
Please correct me if I am wrong, but don't you consider that the term believe and faith to mean the same thing? So if a person believes something then they have faith since the two terms are interchangeable right? So you always had faith, you were just saved when you had faith in God right?

Yes, but who wants to suffer the loss of burned works?
I tell you the truth at one point in my life a hung on to that.

My view of God was so distorted, as a result of a shocking upbringing and then being told by Christians some really stupid stuff.

I will name a few, I don't pray tongues therefore evidence I'm not saved, if I miss one sin in confession I'm going to hell, I smoke and therefore going to hell and will smell like it on the way.

I genuinely believe in Jesus, son of God who died and rose again for me. I have placed my faith in Jesus and want to be like him.
He is perfect and I am not.

So to me God himself was a schizophrenic. One day I'm saved the next I'm not. If he called time when I was having a smoke or just swore was I in heaven or hell? Was he having a good day or bad day?

Believe you me there are an awful lot of people who hope to escape through the flames.

That doesn't bring freedom only bondage but it should bring freedom which only comes through Jesus.

Free in the power of the Holy Spirit in us to become more like Jesus.

Not really you are incorrect. Abrahams faith was proven when he left his family and followed Jehovah God.

Abraham believed God and it, his belief, was accounted to him for righteousness. Belief before he even lifted a finger in service.

For the cause of Christ
Roger

So getting up and leaving is not doing something!?!?!?? Would Abraham been justified if he did not leave? Leaving was a work of faith....not just obedience.

Gen 22, James 2 and Hebrews 11.16-18 says he was did not become heir of the blessings of the promise until he offered up Issac, then and only then was he given the BLESSING of the promise of the inheritance, he was told about in previous chapters.

God did not know the fear or faith of Abraham in Gen 11-14 when Abram obeyed and left.... not in Chapter 15 when he made the land covenant, or in 17 when he changed his name<<<this is something old becoming something new. Nothing in 18 when he got way ahead of God and slept with Hagar, not in 19, 20 or even 21....

God did not "know" Abraham's faith or fear until CH 22.

Gen 22.12
[SUP]12 [/SUP]He said, “Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.

Gen 22.15-18-The blessing of the promise...
[SUP]15 [/SUP]Then the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven, [SUP]16 [/SUP]and said, “By Myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, [SUP]17 [/SUP]indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies. [SUP]18 [/SUP]In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

There is no doubt Abraham righteousness was imputed by his faith, but he was not full justified in that faith until God had a NOW I KNOW moment with him.

Abraham had to give the Lord ALL and God "worked" with him. You will notice that God's side of the covenant never changed, but Abraham had to work towards meeting the conditions of the covenant for God to now know about his fear and faith.

Then and only then did Abraham become fully justified....

Simply getting up when he called him imputed nothing on him, faith imputed righteousness was only fully imputed when the Lord had the NOW I KNOW moment with him. Then Abraham received the full measure of the blessings of the promise...not before.

What line does it cross for you?
But if you think the Scripture crosses the line for you, how do you know it is the Holy Spirit or true faith in the true Jesus you are putting your faith in? It matters where our faith is placed. Wouldn't you agree? there is lots of deception out there. Jesus said beware of false prophets who bring false teachings . If we don't beware, we are sure to be deceived!
You should wait for the answer to your first question before jumping to you next one.

Scripture doesn't cross the line.
Judging someone else's salvation does.

Discern is important.

My faith is in God and His ability to save...not my understanding of doctrine though I try and grow and be mature in Christ.

Save Abraham from what?.....Abraham was declared righteous before he ever offered Isaac 15 years later.

James is simply showing how faith looks like because it has an action to it of some sort. James showed in his epistle it was a one-time act of Abraham and Rahab as an example of faith that "works".

There is every reason to bring in the truth that we are eternally secure in Christ in relation to faith and works. The reason is that works-based salvationists try to say that we must "do good works in order to remain saved."

That's an anti-Christ belief system that denies the work of Christ and it actually nullifies the very grace of God from operating in our lives like it was meant to do.

No amount of works saves a person. You have the cart before the horse. Good works are a by-product of the life of Christ in us. Abraham's offering up of Isaac was a product of being declared righteous by God because Abraham believed what "God said about him".

Read this post and you will see what faith with works looks like for being in Christ and He in us in regards to eternal salvation and having obtained eternal redemption for us. Heb. 9:12

http://christianchat.com/bible-discussion-forum/146296-not-works-744.html#post3157930

Now please answer this question:

If our eternal security and destination is based "on our good works" in order to "stay saved" - name every one of those works that we need to do. Don't leave one out.

How many of these should we do in order to remain saved? Name every one of the good works - we don't want to go to hell.

What if we don't have the same good works one year like we did the last year - does God throw us out of Christ then?
Heb 11 says Abraham was not fully justified until he offered up ISaac.

God himself did not know his faith until he offered up Isaac...Gen 12.22

10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
13 Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.
Deut 18:10-13

Was saying that was a poor example.

Some do Ariel....Rob Bell is one who now does not even believe in Hell, that all go to heaven...universalist doctrine is even more licentious than losing or keeping your own salvation
Yeah I believe I meet at least one Universalist on this forum...makes for tough conversations when folks lump people into two boxes...those who agree with them and everyone else.

Instead of taking the time to have individual conversations.

Why do you insist on making Abrahams faith contingent on him offering up Isaac? What do you suppose Abraham was trusting in when he raised the knife to sacrifice Isaac?

I am waiting for you to tell us how we get around Gen 22.12<<<<<<<<<<NOW I KNOW.....signed the Lord...

How is it that God himself did not know, until Abraham offered Isaac?

Man...

From alpha to omega...we were saved, we are being saved, and we will be saved. All the work of Holy Spirit in our life.

Even agape is of Him. We don't have that capacity to love like Him in our own self. For self is struck by light...and darkness must flee. Who is the light? not me. It's His filling in me.

So are you saying Paul was wrong or lieing?
Was Paul a diviner, enchanter, charmer, witch and the rest from above?
