In the Fifties when I was growing up, Veterans coming home were a VERY BIG DEAL. Flag waving especially on the Fourth of July, Veterans Day, and Memorial Day, was a VERY BIG DEAL. Veterans were invited to ride on the floats in the Fourth of July. When the Color Guard carried the Flag down the Street, EVERYONE Stood and proudly put their hand over their hearts and Veterans Saluted, and some shed some tears, remembering those who did not make it home. NOBODY, not even ONCE showed disrespect for the FLAG in the City that I grew up in. I saw NOBODY even threaten to Burn the Flag, I saw NOBODY spit on it, I saw NOBODY, throw it on the Ground, I saw NOBODY wipe their feet on it, I saw NOBODY Stand on the FLAG, and I SAW NOBODY TURN THE FLAG UPSIDE DOWN; which is an INSULT TO VETERANS. The Red Stripes, stand for the Americans who shed their blood fighting under OLD GLORY, and to turn it upside down for any reason, (other than to signal for help, or warn other troops that their position has been overrun by the enemy), is disrespecting that shed blood represented by the red stripes, symbolically turning it upside down to pour that blood out on the ground. Back then it was considered like slapping Veterans in the face.

When I came home from the Military Service, Nobody welcomed me home except my parents, my siblings, and very few close friends. The only reason I was not SPIT on at Travis AFB, was my plane landed at 2:30 AM. I guess the hippies did not stay up that late. Patriotism improved for a couple decades, then cooled off again, then 9/11 fired it up for a few years, and NOW IT growing cold once again. Once UNBELIEVABLE TABOOS of DISRESPECT are being tolerated, and cheered by many in this so called modern Society, and seen as ENTERTAINMENT ON YOUTUBE. I sometimes CANNOT BELIEVE that attitudes of MANY, who just accept it, with an I DON'T CARE ATTITUDE. So YES it is even worse than ever before: Flag Burnings, Standing wiping one's feet on the FLAG, Spitting on the Flag, and even turning the FLAG upside down to make a POLITICAL STATEMENT, which MOST VETERANS STILL FIND VERY OFFENSIVE. The disrespect for OUR FLAG once associated with the Hanoi Jane movement, is running RAMPANT once again:

Did not know you were Blind.

No need for childish innuendo.

When I came home from the Military Service, Nobody welcomed me home except my parents

When my dad returned home to Brooklyn, NY from WW II he was not given a ticker tape parade nor welcome from anyone. When he tried to get a job as a dock worker he was called an ethnic slur word that I shall not repeat here and was refused the job. Unlike other Brooklynites who got decent jobs and were welcomed into Levittown, NY he, like other patriotic Hispanics was not allowed to move into the suburbs and spent the rest of his life in low wage jobs in the ghetto. This despite the fact that his brother was killed in the European theater.

Here in Minnesota we just a large memorial service for a veteran who died in Europe during WW II and his body was returned. He was given a full hero's service. Every holiday has parades, flag waiving, market sales, restaurant specials, barbecues, family gatherings, and all forms of honors given. Legion baseball remains the most popular form of amateur entertainment during the summer.

I don't know what part of the country you live in but it sure as heck isn't anywhere near here.

It as not a childish innuendo, I did answer your question the first time with TWO things from the internet, a YOUTUBE video showing you the way it USED TO BE, and the way it is now, and then you accused me of not answering youR question. I live a stone's throw away from you, in Lincoln, NE. My flag is flying 24/7, 365 days a year, and YES there is a Light on it every night. I just moved back here 2 months ago. In the old days, only Jehovah Witnesses did not fly the flag on Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, Veterans Day, and Presidents Day. NOW this Memorial Day, I NOTICED that NOBODY on my block put up a flag, and only one house up the street a block, had put out their flag. THAT is why I worded the title of this thread the way I did.

THEN:

TODAY IS FLAG DAY, AND ONCE AGAIN, I SEE NO HOUSES EXCEPT MINE FLYING THE FLAG, AS FAR AS I CAN SEE EITHER DIRECTION. HOW MANY ARE FLYING THE FLAG ON YOUR STREET, IS EVEN YOURS UP AND FLYING???

NO?
I REST MY CASE.

. . .
Here is a Parade in Paris honoring all US Forces who fought in the European Theatre.
NOTICE the video at the bottom of this actually states the men and women, who actually marched in the parade, REPRESENT THE 10,000,000, involved in WWII. So yes, your Dad actually had his Victory Parade.

Now Here is how the Korean Vets were welcomed home:

And Here is what the Vietnam War Vets came home to:

It was not until 2008 that a woman came up and thanked me and welcomed me home for the first time because I was wearing my Veteran's ball cap, and apologized because she was part of the problem back then.

We have had plenty of welcome home ceremonies for vets all over the state. On that basis, it proves your premise that patriotism is dead is mythical.

There you go, putting word in my mouth that I DID NOT SAY.

I asked the question Is Patriotism Dying in America? AND COMPARED TO WHAT IT WAS IN THE 40's and 50's, the obvious answer is YES, in many ways it is Dying. NOT DEAD YET, but Dying.

SO DID YOU FLY THE FLAG TODAY AT YOUR HOUSE, because it was FLAG DAY?

If the answer is NO, then you are only part of the Problem, and not part of the Solution.

In the 50's almost EVERYONE flew the Flag on the appropriate HOLIDAYS, and FLAG DAY CERTAINLY IS ONE OF THEM.

Even the Tea Party is trying to whitewash the INSULT of turning OUR FLAG upside down, telling people that it is an acceptable form of Protest. IT IS NOT! The Red Stripes on the flag represent the BLOOD spilled by VETERANS, and the White Stripes represent the bandages worn by the Wounded VETERANS. And as far as I am concerned: The Blue Field represent the Field of HONORABLE SERVICE they Served On, and the White Stars Represent the 50 States our VETERANS CAME FROM. NONE OF IT represents a bad President with bad Politics, and bad ideas. The FLAG REPRESENTS THE VETERANS WHO DIED, FOUGHT, AND SERVED TO PRESERVE OUR FREEDOMS. HOW DARE A POLITICAL PARTY TURN THE FLAG UPSIDE DOWN TO ADVANCE THEIR POLITICAL AGENDA.

Patriotism is not even close to dying.

The flag is flying high over our building (I live in a tenement) as it always is.

It seems the most vociferous supporters of what they deem as patriotism are the first to be wiling to tromp the rights of others according to constitutional rights which are supposed to be guaranteed to all citizens.

A good example of this is those who mistake the constitution with the Bible. These folks will pervert the law in order to push the denominational dictates of their particular guru or congregation.

In the US according to the Declaration of Independence all are entitled to the pursuit of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and well this should always be providing that endeavor does not impede the rights of others.

It is my considered belief that according to the Constitution of the US, we are fee to worship our Maker as we are led to, however when any theology or denomination is will to kill others for the sake of what they believe is patriotism, I am afraid they are stepping on the Constitution. I refer only to US citizens.

Actually, in view of the active attempts of many denominations, Moslem and Christia, some of these shold be considered as and treated as illegal and treacherous organizations. Obviously all may believe and practice for themselves what they believe to be the correct manner of living in the sight of our Maker, however it is not patriotism to impede others to live according to how they are led by the same Maker.

Any congregation where repeated offenders, trespassers of the constitution should be judged and sentenced accordingly, especially when the teaching is proven to lead to murders and other infringnements on the rights of others under the Constitution.

The US was not founded as a theocracy; it was founded as a home and haven for all who seek freedom from oppression and free expression under the auspices of the Constitution.

From what I observe, and have observed, the US Constitution is in dire need of revitalization, and this not by relgious zealots who believe their patriotism is better than that of the next citizen.

Revive the Constitution and the US will return to being a home for all who love liberty and equality.

If this response has no plce in the CC Bible discussion then neither does the OP:

A true Patriot is motivated to go out and buy Flag, no matter what country he or she is from and on National Holidays fly it in honor of your VETERANS, and a bad political party in power, is not an excuse to NOT fly that Flag, because you are not honoring the Politics, but the VETERANS THEMSELVES.

The most Patriotic Country that I know of is Belize:

In Belize it is not unusual to the the Belize flag flying high, and side by side a little bit lower, the US Flag and the Canadian Flag.

Having owned several in my life time, here is the flag pole bracket enables you to flay the upright at an angle, and parallel to the ground to symbolize it is at half staff. It sells on Amazon for $12.93, they are available in black, white, galvanized steel, and brass, mount with three screws.

TO FURTHER UNDER SCORE MY POINT, THIS KIND OF STUFF NEVER HAPPENED IN THE PAST:

You do Know that they make flag pole holders for flying off apartment balconies or fence posts without dmaging the owner's property, don't you?

This one requires NO drilling holes in the owners property:

FlagBracketPA - Website of flagbracketpa!

A piece of intertube the same width as the plate, would protect the owner's paint on the post.

REVELATION 5:9 And they sang a new song, saying, Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation,
REVELATION 5:10 and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.

Dare I even MENTION the 2nd Amendment is absolutely BIBLICAL?

Luke 22:36 (ESV)
[SUP]36 [/SUP] He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.

Patriotic for the sake of the kingdom of God, methinks.

He did whatever it took to serve in that regard, which involved many types of activities and methods of teaching in his ministry.

You want patriotism, support and enforce the US Constitution, and never agree to the type of patriotism I experienced going to various denominational services while growing up in California in the 50's. I heard lots of God bless America from the pulpit out of one side of the preachers' mouths, and out of the other side of the same mouths blatant anti-semetic and anti black oratory.

Believe Jesus Christ or do not, but do not pervert what is truth. Keep Caesar out of the assemblies, for Christ has nothig to do with him.

Love your country, yes, but not just for some, for all; this without anything but constitutional gidance in mind. True patriotism in Christ to the Kingdom will make anyone a good citizen of any country.

Yes, Jesus did tell the Disciples to carry a sword. But He never told them they could MURDER people with the sword.

Self defense is not in the Scriptures. We do not have the right to murder others just because we want to.

AND its my Constitutional right not to have a flag if i do not want one. My allegiance is to God FIRST.

So very much to consider in so few words, and so true.

What many do not consider is that when the Lord returns He will destroy His enemies with the two-edged sword of His mouth. Because He never teaches His followers to kill or to seek any form of vengeance, I am persuaded to understand His instructions about obtaining a sword as pertaining to learning, knowing and spreading theWord, destroying all opposition with that two-edged sword of the Holy Spirit, the tongue wielding the Word.
