could some mental problems be spiritual, instead of being physicall?
if i told you i am heard voices and the t.v. is talked to me, what would you say?
if i told you i heard voices and a burning bush talked to me,what would you say?

when i read the bible, i ask, are all these people schizophrenic by todays mental medical standards? i wonder if the people in the mental profession are reading the bible in order to be able to counsel their patients. i wonder if pastors are reading clinical studies in order to counsel their patients. i wonder why a phsychiatrist and a pastor isnt the same profession.

if i told you everyone was out to get me and when i go into that town they will kill me, what would you say? how about if i added that by going there it would serve Gods purpose for me to die. what would you say? then i add dont worry after a couple days i will be alive again, what would you say? then i even add more to that and say and if you believe it, you wont die either, what would you say? if he did it, would you?

i guess you would try to stop me. i guess you would say i was insane. you would prolly lock me up and drug me into a stupor.

or would you tell me its already been done so you dont need to do that ? after all how much do we really need to be like that guy?

i wonder if he is calling on people today? what would that sound like to someone? can he speak thru other people?

who determines whats physical and whats mental? are they qualified to diagnose it? am i supposed to think like them? or are they supposed to to think like me? maybe i should just ignore that and follow what i hear alone with faith. maybe the sheperd occasionally offers up one from the flock as sacrafice. maybe you have to go up to the alter of your own free will, with full understanding of whats going to happen. maybe i have to kill the animal inside of me and offer it to God?

maybe i should see someone first to talk about this.
who do you recomend, a psychiatrist or a pastor?
which one is the right one to listen too?
maybe i should just listen to God, regardless of what either say.
what does the bible say about that?

Dear friends, I, too, suffer from mental illness of depression and atypical anxiety, panic

attack disorder.

Dear duewell, If I were you, I would see a psychiatrist and maybe he/she can

put you on some medications for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or whatever

mental illness they diagnose you with. The meds can alleviate all or most of your worse

symptoms. My illness never bothers me except when I stop taking the medications.

Then I get panic attacks and start hearing voices. That only happens when I'm off of

my medications.

But I am not very paranoid or fearful of people. I don't spend time worrying about what is

going to happen to me. I just have some anxiety issues and feelings of guilt sometimes. I

am guilty of some sins.

As for a psychiatrist or a pastor, we need both. Psychological/physical and spiritual

counseling both are necessary.

The best book I can recommend to you, dear friend, is this book. It's the best book I have

read on

the meaning of the heart of the New Testament. It doesn't cover everything in the

Gospel, but it contains much truth.

maybe if i take enough pills, i will have less anxiety and feelings of guilt. maybe if i dont read the bible, i wouldnt feel guilty at all. are the voices trying to move me forward to salvation or are they trying to hold me back from it? maybe im too scared, so i try to escape from it. should i try to face my fears and my sins with a full confession? or could i just medicate myself so its not an issue. doesnt the book of romans seem similiar to all of this?

maybe when i started to feel anxious and full of panic, i wrote a confession of my life and sins, then i asked Jesus for help. then those voices really got loud, and they started to sing, and then the entire world came together into a single voice, and asked one simple question

do you believe?

I am still rational enough to know I only had the psychotic episodes when I was off

of my medications. The cure is not pills only, but they do most of the work of calming

the false voices that try to get me to wander the streets of Erie aimlessly, and bowing

down because some voice in my head tells me to kneel. I was very messed up in 2008.

It had nothing to do with faith in God. I am a sinner. I need to resolve the guilt issue

by getting back to God and to church. The church can help me. Faith in God helps me.

I would say read the book "Becoming Orthodox" by Peter E. Gillquist and ask God whether

his teachings are "merely Christian"? The Orthodox Church is the Church we can trust.

There is no perfect church on earth, but we can be made disciples of Christ by the

ministry of the Church (see Matt. 28:19-20). In Erie PA Scott Harrington PS God save us

from the evil one and the demons, and from mental illness, and forgive us heal us and

forgive and cleanse us from all our unrighteousnesses. The blood of Christ cleanseth from

ALL sin.

panic and guilt, anxiety, a restless urge to wander"aimlessly", a voice in your head telling you to kneel?
doesnt that qualify for a spiritual experience? rational enough to know you have "episodes" which only happen if you dont take pills that "calm" you.
abraham, moses, noah, did God ask them to do "rational" things?

as i walked aimlessly, aimlessly means without direction a voice in my head tells me to kneel. tell means inform/direct.
did you kneel and ask "now what should i do?" wouldnt that seem like the rational thing to do and show faith for what your hearing?

i was just asking in my original post if mental vs spiritual was being properly diagnosed.
lets call it rational/mental vs faith/spiritual
the only rational action you can take is to put faith in God.

most people just want me to take my meds like everyone else and stop talking like this.

Duewell
God can call anyone of us at anytime to do anything. do not tell him your busy, do not refuse his call. do not tell him this isnt rational.

duewell, yeah i refuse to take pills or talk to people who think i'm crazy.

i know where you're coming from and have talked to people but they would not be able to diagnosis me because i'm good at acting normal if I want to.

have you study the discernment of spirits?

the internal voice that tells you that you are loved and normal is the Holy Spirit. the external ones and the visions and stuff are demons sent to torment you. Do as Jesus did rebuke them through the use of Holy Scriptures. Cast them away from you and tell them to leave you alone in Jesus' name. Pray to God to send angels to chase them away and go on living a relative normal life.

That is what I do. Most people don't know I see angels or demons until I cast one out of their life.

Everyone knows there is something "special" about me because they see me smiling and happy most of the time. which I am until I see a demon tormenting someone and then I switch to combat/counseling mode. Here are some scriptures that might help you fight whatever demons torment you, and of course a song. lol ;)

YouTube - Who Am I - Casting Crowns
YouTube - Michael W. Smith - Step by Step
YouTube - God's love letter

Remember always that God loves you.

2 Timothy 1:6-8 (New King James Version)
6 Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
YouTube - Josh Wilson: Before the Morning

you can pm me but i'm getting off the computer for the weekend.

I would go see someone who believes in spiritual gifts, the laying on of hands and healing, a church that is BIBLE based, charismatic but not demon possessed. they will help you grow in your gifts and give you the spiritual covering needed to protect you from forces of the darkness.

In addition read your Bible and pray whenever you feel threaten, sad, angry depressed anxious, etc. For God can take those burdens and heal you but YOU must first ask and BELIEVE. Drugs are man made chemicals your body can produce naturally if you ask God to help and heal you. You can try them but personally my body rejects most drugs and have negative side effects, but everyone is different.

I had to take Flintstone vitamins because prenatal vitamins upsets my stomach when I was pregnant with my kids.

Strive to learn about Jesus and the Bible and follow His example concerning spiritual matters. May God's Peace abide in your heart and keep you safe and content to follow the path of righteousness. May His angels surround you and cast out the darkness and shadows that may surround your life and May His blessings and grace rain down mercifully upon your life as you seek to follow His will. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

thanks for the encouragement ananda, i will look into the discerning of spirits as that was something i was struggling with early on after my conversion. finding a way to serve has also been a struggle because so many people i talk to refuse to even listen. i struggle to show the schizophrenic that they are actually being offered a chance to serve God. after all i didnt take my meds, and what i have experienced is very hard for other people to believe. i participated in things that are hard for even me to believe. all i know is i didnt know anything until i repented and asked Jesus for help, and now i am amazed at how much i know now.

There is no wrong in seeking medical help if this is what you are looking for and in need of.
Drs can do alot of good, and many drs do believe in Jesus and heal in both treatments, physical and spiritual.
But, the spiritual only works with faith in Jesus Christ Our Lord.
A dr can bring one kind of healing.
But Jesus brings all healing, physical , spiritual , emotional, enviromental, and the greatest healing which is the love of God Our Father!
His office is always open and no insurance reqiured. :)
Faith is the only reqirement, and Jesus even gives this to those who are weak in it.

God bless.

I think a lot of mental problems are the result of sin.
yes but is it theirs or the worlds? Jesus DIED for our sins and suffered much because of it.

if I told you I could hear voices of demons whispering lies to people and leading them down paths of sin would you call me delusional or gifted?

Is it a mental problem or a spiritual gift of discernment of spirits?

What does sin have to do with it? Is it mine or theirs that causes the demons to manifest?

The bible points to us to seek councel. It is silent at times on where to seek councel but there seems to be nothing wrong with seeking it from others with good knowledge.

Proverbs 12:"Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellers there is safety."

Proverbs 19:20; "Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end."

There is a wonderful prayer for anyone who is going through hearing voices.

Zechariah 2:5; "For I, saith the Lord, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her."

This is telling us to pray for a wall of fire of protection. If there is evil...it will be kepted at bay. If this is from the Lord then you will know it.

Good people councelers are okay. But we also are in a spiritual warfare and this is a good prayer for that.
