P.S.S.S - If I may add just one more thing lol.....I missed reading some of the posts and have just flicked over the pages I missed and one of the posts talked about all areas of your life being intrinsically linked...this for me is absolutely key!!
Think of it as walls of a house - one wall is the physical being, 2nd wall is the spiritual being, 3rd wall is the familial/social being and the 4th wall is the mental being. If one of these walls collapses or malfunctions, the whole house is affected. I believe this to be the case with anything in life, it is maintaining balance in all these areas. One major mitigating factor in my mental illness is stress (mental) and insomnia (physical)...when this occurs I am susceptible to going through another dark time as this affects my whole wellbeing. Not dealing with past issues and life trauma was another pertinent factor for me....anyway...I have said quite enough now....actuallly, no...too much!!
May God continue to have his hand on you and your family and may the Lord direct you all towards healing and wholeness!

You stated that at one time your husband was on fire for God and was even involved in the ministry. We know from God's word that when He saves us, ALL our sins are forgiven and we are translated from darkness into light and are a new creation. We now have unmerited favor and mercy with God. Even if we sin or do terrible things as Christian, 1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The problem is that if we continue in sin, we open the door to demonic influence.

It appears that the death of your husbands first wife dealt a great blow to your husbands spirit. Perhaps in his grief and sorrow the thought of prayer or counseling didn't appear to be an option so he chose his own method to deal with his loss and pain. Alcohol is a mood altering drug as well as a depressant. Some prescription painkillers have some of the same effects as alcohol so a combination of both would certainly increase their effects. I believe that the ABUSE of any mood altering substance (drugs, alcohol, prescribed medicine) can certainly lead to certain mental disorders, a distortion of reality and in effect demonic influence.
Thank you e-sword. A lot of what you said made sense, especially the above. I have him on the prayer list of one church, but I think I need to find more prayer for him.

Cloudstrife, #57: What if they are right? What if it is only a matter of you coming into a better understanding of what your authority in Christ is and how to use it? How simple it is! Tell fear and anxiety to "LEAVE ME IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST!" Every time you start to feel anxious, tell them to leave…they are persistent and you have to be more so! Then immediately start praising the Lord and worshipping him…demons will not hang around for long if you make thanksgiving, praise and worship a HABIT, because the LORD inhabits the praises of His people!

I met a man that was once schizophrenic. He told me that he got tired of not having the life that he believed God had created him for. He took authority over the voices, commanding them to leave in the name of Jesus and eventually they gave up on him. They finally understood that he knew who he was in Christ and as he became a do-er of the Word of God, they had nothing on him which would give them license to keep influencing him. He is now a minister, traveling the country, teaching and setting others free.
But my son is still on medication. Until he can understand that they voices he hears are his ENEMIES, his own will, will allow them to stay. I'm still praying, still standing in the gap for him. Fasting and prayer ensues.

Lauren.....I don't know how to begin...other than to say I don't really know what to say about the subject of demons and mental health. I am not even sure I have an opinion on it, and so won't try to delve into that. What I would like to say, is that I am praying for you, your husband, and family. When you made mention of "In some ways it's even harder than if he had died" it reminded me of when my dad was diagnosed with cancer, it IS in some ways harder ....I know what I went through is different (way different) than what you are going through, but I do understand that feeling. On a small side note, I now realize that I sent you a cheery "trying to get to know you" e-mail the other day, and it was probably not good timing. I apologize for that.....I just seen this thread this afternoon. Again.....God Bless and I will keep you in my prayers. nanabean

Hi, the word of God says he wants us to be well, healthy. Sickness is from hell. I know that sounds scarey to some people. The bible says for us to not be ignorant. So we are always learning and learning more of the things of God. How you started your story off on wanting people to not bark back and forth to each other. Them doing that is pride. Pride is a sin. Even that opens doors for hell to come in. If it's God will for you and all to be well, healthy then whose will is it for us to be sick?? Satans of course. Generational curses. Bind and cast to hell curses from way back in the name of Jesus. At times everyone has hate, unforgiveness, bitterness, pride we see here all the time, all kinds of sins. Yes even the christian does these sins. All the sins opens doors to hell. Thats why we have to repent of sins. Pray for all doors to be closed to the evil one in the name of Jesus. Think of anything you can that you have not let go of and ask God to remind you of the things you haven't let go of. Hurts, people being mean to you. What ever. Give it to God. A hurt is a opened wound and a open wound is a opening for hell to come. A person doesn't have to be a evil horrible person for a door to hell to be opened and a demon to step into. Just regular people like you and me. Doing drugs opens doors. Drinking opens doors. Being mad at that person who did you wrong opens doors. To close the doors you must forgive. Pray the blood of Jesus. God our loving Lord wants no one to have any mental illness. Tell satan to get out of your body mean it with all your heart, soul and mind in the name of Jesus and keep saying I am healed and keep doing these things until it comes to pass. Don't give up. You must fight the evil that attacks you, stand firm. Know God will fight for you if you believe in his power. I know, I've been through all that I wish someone would have taught me the truth that demons were trying to kill me way back then. God bless you and give you and your family mighty strength. May his angels stand gaurd over you all, may his blood cover you and his favor go before you. Love

Nanabean, no worries at all! You had no way of knowing what was going on. And if anything, your cheery note made me smile!

His problems have been occuring for years, but suddenly within a couple days time, he started doing really way out things.....showering 4 times in a day, using the microwave despite the fact that sparks started coming out of it and it was about to catch fire, washing his dinner dishes in the upstairs sink..... stuff that made it apparent to me that their was some sort of break with reality.

I don't know if demons can cause mental illness or not,I guess it is possible to some extent. My mother was mentally ill all throughout my life,it started when my dad walked out on her.She became a drug addict, then anorexic, never could really deal with life. She committed suicide two years ago by overdosing, but thru all her problems she still loved God and wanted to do His will, she just could never beat her illness.
I guess maybe if something traumatic happens, and we don't turn to God for help we leave the door open for satan.

My husband used to do this, and somewhere along the way, he stopped.

Your post made me think back to how he was when we first met - he was what you might term a "bold" witness...lol...to say the least. Anytime the Spirit guided him to spread the Word, he would. Nothing would stop him.

He had a lot of loss and hurt in his life though (childhood abuse as well as the passing of two wives and much of his family), and he started to turn to other things as I mentioned in the OP.

He lost his footing.

Loveschild wrote "Tell satan to get out of your body " It is not satan that is in the body, it is his demons. Satan is not ommipotent or omnipient...he can not be everywhere at one time. He can only be in one place at one time. He will only embody ONE human and that will be the anti--Christ. But we can tell the demons of depression, fear, pride, religion, rejection, fear of rejection, false humility, anger, witchcraft....and so forth...to leave. We first confess the behaviors as sin and then ask for forgiveness, then command the unclean spirits to leave in the name of Jesus Christ.

I'm happy to pray. My heart goes out to you. I know what your going thr is very hard. I had my own problems. But I spent many years with my brother going thr mental illness. He did all kinds of crazy things. Besides drugs and alcohal which we both did that opened doors. Thank God I stopped but he never did. He did kung fu when he was a teen. That opens doors. That has another god. Which any other god is a devil. He loved God. But was a catholic. Mary, saints all false gods (demons). My brother died last year. I always got totalk to him about God. He was going thr times of being better me telling him to tell satan to get away from in the name of Jesus. I was ok with he died cause I knew he was in heaven. My daughter and son were very close to him. My daughter was very upset. I think she didn't think he went to heaven because of the drugs. But God knows when someone is trapped and doesn't know how to get out of their problems. I was a church one day. I started getting all sad about my brother and wanting to cry hard. I asked God why was this happening to me. I wasn't all sad I knew my brother was in heaven. He told me to yell Jesus. So I yelled Jesus. I yelled Jesus over and over. I didn't care what the people around thought. I obeyed God. I got this wonderful feeling from God. I seen my daughter later. She went to a different church. She had a wonderful look on her face. She said she was at her church. Feeling bad about my brother. God opened heaven and let her see my brother. He was with her grandma who died just a lil before. He was younger and all happy. he waved at her, smiled real big and told her he made it to heaven. God is wonderful. My bbeying God let him open heaven for her to give her peace she needed. God bless you on your journey. Walking thr thr fires makes you turn to gold. Don't give up and know God is God who can do all things. But he can only do what we let him do. If we hold him back he can't help us. Love

You are welcome Lauren.
God bless.
I feel I should add some words and I hope you will see this in God's Word yourself.
As we look at all the healing records in the Gospels, Jesus always required beliving on the part
of every one who had a need.......with certain exceptions....
[1] dead people (because they can't believe when they are dead) so someone else has to believe
[2] Jesus always required the believing of the parents for the healing of their children
[3] When someone was mentally incapable of believing for themselves, someone else can believe for them.

You will have to be strong in your believing for your husband. At this point, the cause of his problem is secondary. God can deliver no matter what the cause. Primarily at this point, you have to believe that God is bigger than the problem.
As I said, The Word of God and prayer are your weapons. Healing is always God's Will ......no exceptions.
1 John 5:14 says that if we ask anything according to God's Will, He hears us. Healing is God's Will. Jesus always did the Father's Will and Jesus never made anybody sick.

God bless you
You are God's best

Lauren, I did not catch the tyroid question before. Most Drs when dealing with a mental issue will now check the thyroid first. Certian thyroid issues can cause a person to appear totally insane. If your husband has ab-normal thyroid results it is possible it has been going on for a long time. Although it would suprise me that a dr has not caught it before unless it has been a case where they just missed it each time. The thyroid can be a tricky little bugger. God bless pickles

I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. I do believe that most, if not all, mental illness is demonic in origin.

Little by little, your husband looked to things of the world for relieve of his emotional pain, instead of crying out to God, and receiving the peace and joy of knowing that God works all things out for the good of those who love Him.

We walk a narrow path as Christians. To stay on that path, we need to keep our eyes clearly fixed ahead to our reward and our Savior, Jesus Christ. Often, Satan attacks us by throwing something in that path. Our eyes are diverted, even if just a little bit. Now, this could be with a problem, an illness, a loss, etc, or it could be something of the world that we enjoy, such as a tv program, etc. As our eyes fix upon it, Satan turns it, just a little. Our eyes turn with it. This continues, until suddenly the goal of Heaven and the Face of Jesus is no longer visible. Then we wonder how we got to this point in our lives.

We seldom fall into sin rapidly. Usually, it happens in small increments. I believe that is what happened to your husband.

I do believe that those of us who are saved still experience demonic attacks.

Medication can correct any chemical imbalances, but most people are left with a "flat" feeling that is not appealing to them. Thus, many don't stay on their meds. I think, again, this is demonic in origin.

In the end, I think that prayer and laying on of hands is better than anything man can do. You also need the support of your friends, church family, and family, because it is easy to get discouraged and lose your joy in the Lord.

I don't know how all this will end for you and your husband, but if he is saved, then he will not be snatched from the hand of God. We can't see the end of this dark period, or how anything good can possibly come from it, but God HAS promised that all things work for good for those who love Him, so something good will come from this. You can believe in God's faithfulness and cling to this promise.

God bless you and your husband. You will be in my prayers.

Is it possible to get a std from something like this?
Okay, so i went to work today, and they made me shave. After I finished shaving, I stupidly took some toilet paper(it was still in the dispenser for the toilet paper), and not knowing if it was used it or not. and got the shaving cream off my face, and yes there was more than one cut for the something to get into it. if there was something like guy stuff or girl stuff on there, whould I have a chance of getting a std from it? I don't know how long it was setting there.

Is it just my ocd screwing with me?
