QUESTION FOR NATIVE SPANISH SPEAKING CHRISTIANS ON SPANISH BIBLE TRANSLATIONS

I am doing jail ministry and would like to find an appropriate Spanish Bible for Spanish speaking people. Most are of Mexican descent.

I am looking for something similar to the ESV only in Spanish.

The basic criteria are 1) uses the Nestle Aland Greek text as its basis for the New Testament translation and NOT Textus Receptus 2) is easy to read for contemporary Spanish speakers and 3) is not a paraphrase but is more on the word-for-word spectrum.

If anyone can advise me, who is knowledgeable and a native Spanish speaker, I'd appreciate it.

My wife is from Mexico. She is most comfortable with Spanish Bibles . She has a Reina Valera 1960 or RVR 1960 . That one is a Protestant Spanish version . Its considered to be the Spanish equivalent to the KJV . Make sure it is the updated 1960 version. The older ones have the same issues as the KJV dose concerning language. This version is liked by many Spanish speaking Protestants but not held in the same esteem that KJV only folks do here . I hope that helps .

Its considered to be the Spanish equivalent to the KJV . Make sure it is the updated 1960 version. The older ones have the same issues as the KJV dose concerning language. This is basically the same advice I got from Josef Urban who is a church planter in Mexico.

He said that the NVI might also be a decent translation but that RV1960 is probably the better one.

Apparently they don't have the resources that we have in terms of translations using the Nestle Aland 28 rather than the Textus Receptus. Personally I would prefer to give someone a translation based on the Nestle Aland 28 but it just isn't available. It's not a big deal.

There are a few other translations that I believe are not from the Textus Receptus . My wife says that they read like it came from google translate. So she sticks to her favorite. Just something to be aware of .
