Here are a few verses, sorry I can't seem to fix the formatting here... Doesn't seem like there is a COMMAND to lift hands, but that lifting hand is an act of worship.

Nehemiah 8:6

And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up theirhands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped theLord with their faces to the ground.

Psalm 63:4
Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.

Psalm 134:2
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord.

When I am well enough I go along to my local salvation army church were nobody raises there hands and everything is prim and proper all the way through. There have been times when Iv felt so full of the spirit when were singing hymns that I would love to raise my hands or even sway a bit - but because I would be the odd one out I don't.
I think our worship to our God is a personal thing between us and him, he knows we love him whether we jump about and wave or just simply stand still.

Here's one we forgot...

Rom 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

I haven't seen any scripture about it...
Exodus 17v12,13 with 1Tim 2v1-8, Ezra 9v5, Neh 8v6, Psalm 28v2, 63v4, 88v9, 119v48, 134v2, 141v2 and so forth...

I went to a church about a year ago and during worship the preacher stopped and scolded the ones who weren't raising their hands to worship. He basically said it was mandatory that everyone lift their hands to God when singing. I looked at my wife and said "we are leaving". We left during his rant and never went back.

I lift my hands on occasion when the spirit leads me to but I don't automatically do it because others are or the preacher tells me to.

Do it! You'd be surprised how many people would loosen up and do the same!

Yep, I love those wing nutty pastors.We had one in a church I attended. He wanted everyone to stand during the song service.And in a Pentecostal church that can be lonnnnng. I sat down after a little while. He walked to the back of the church and then when the songs were over he got up and said he saw people not standing and tried to make us feel guilty.He looked right at me and I folded my arms.Ive been told I have a "look" lol He got that "look". I was waiting for him to come to me.Because we were about to have a come to Jesus moment. Poor elderly folk teetering,trying to stand.He didn't want to tangle with me I guess because he never said a word to me.

Your either one or the other...:cool:

Is there some scripture (I can't find any) that supports or refutes doing this?:confused:

Curious...:eek:
"Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say, rejoice." Philippians 4

Though I don't do it, I love seeing people raising their hands in worship. Let the Spirit move you, bro!

this is actually mentioned in the Psalms a number of times.. sometimes in praise, sometimes as looking to Him for help.
here's a few examples from Psalms; i'm pretty sure too that there are more than this in Psalms alone, plus the verse from Timothy that was quoted, and iirc plenty of sections in scripture where people "stretched out their hands" toward God, again either in praise or in humility, asking for help.
weird that you couldn't find any!?

Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help,
as I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place.
(Psalm 28:2)

I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
(Psalm 63:4)

Every day I call upon you, O Lord;
I spread out my hands to you.
(Psalm 88:9)

Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the LORD.
(Psalm 134:2)

May my prayer be counted as incense before You;
The lifting up of my hands as the evening offering.
(Psalm 141:2)

I stretch out my hands to you;
my soul thirsts for you like a parched land.
(Psalm 143:6)

Walked into a Nazarene church once. They had some Gaither vocal band music playing. The Spirit touched me and with my eyes shut my arms were lifted by The Spirit and with tears running down my face I sat there quietly praising God in the Spirit.
Song ended, I opened my eyes and everyone around me were sitting there, deader than dirt. Nothing, nada, zero. They had no clue. Sad isn't it? And you ask me why I don't go to church. Why should I seek the living among the dead?

Maybe the Lord wants you to be a blessing to them and get them out of their deadness by your display of love for the Lord?
