this is good sister, you are actually thinking about your salvation.....if you still do not see exactly ask God and He will show you,,,believe me,,,trust in Him
Good advice, I think. (Better than, please excuse me for saying, reading a multi-page article.) I tend to agree with those who said that the only way you can lose salvation is by denying Christ after you have recognized Him as your Lord and Savior. And by denying Christ I would mean suddenly deciding that He is not the way to salvation, and that Christian teachings are a bunch of @&. Or worse, that there is no God.

After we are saved, I believe, we all continue to sin. We are all human and sin is inevitable. The difference is that we recognize our sin and are sorry for it. And we try as hard as we can not to commit that sin again.
But even then, we may fail because temptation is always with us. The devil never gives up without a fight.

This discussion sort of reminds me of a bumper sticker which made the rounds awhile back. "Christian aren't perfect, just forgiven."

Right. When one wants to know what the scriptures have to say about something, just "ask God and He will show you." Don't be diligent to present yourself approved to God, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).

I was gonna try to answer it myself but in the end figured why reinvent the wheel. At the least it's a good reference for finding the relevant passages.

I hear two different sides. Some people say you can lose your Salvation, and some say you can't. Which one is it?!
Scripture states we "HAVE eternal life"

If this life is eternal, can it ever be lost?

If it can be lost, can it be called eternal?

The fact is, God calls it eternal for a reason, it means it is never ending, if it could ever end, it would not be eternal.

There is a reason God calls our life in him "eternal" life, and not "conditional" life

John states we can KNOW WE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE, and COMFORT ONE ANOTHER because of this knowledge. I must ask then. How could one KNOW they have eternal life if they do not know the rest of their life. If one could fall away by sin, failure to do something, then it would be impossible to know you had eternal life, All you could do is guess that maybe you have it, maybe you don't, for you would always live in fear of losing it.

Well paul tells us that our Hope is in something which God promised before time began, and he can not lie.

Titus 1:2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began

If we do not have eternal life, we have no hope. If the life God gave us is not eternal in nature, But God could take it back, He lied.

Scripture also teaches salvation was "Paid in full" By the death of Christ,

Colossians 2:14
having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

If one thinks about it, The "handwriting of requirements against us" Is a Legal term, we all have a debt because "all have sinned" That debt has to be removed before the penalty can be taken care of. One of the "Hebrews" ideas spoken of earlier is that the author makes it clear that "Without the shedding of blood there can be no forgiveness" The NT speaks of the law being a tutor to show us Christ, Well it did, It not only showed us our "debt" and Need for a savior, But it showed how this debt was paid (the priest sacrificed an innocent to make atonment for sin) And this forshadowed Christ, who died once for all to fullfill the requirement of the law, for as hebrews says, the shedding of the blood of an animal could never take away sin, God just passed over sin looking forward to Christ making the final sacrifice which would completely satisfy the just requirement of the law.

Another aspect of Hebrews, which may have been spoken of (I Did not read page 2) is the passage which says "it is impossible for anyone to fall away, and if they could fall away, they could "NEVER BE RENEWED TO REPENCE".

Think about it, If someones repentance could not be renewed after they fell away (lost salvation), they could never be saved again. In other words, they had their one try and failed, and now it is too late.

i hope this helps!!

I see a lot of arguments being made by trust_in_the_name regarding warnings for people who turn back and saying that we can lose our salvation based on these verses (and he posts many!). But if you notice in Hebrews 10:38-39 "but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back,
my soul has no pleasure in him.”
39
But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls."

Christians don't turn back! Anyone who does is not and never was a Christian but a liar according to 1 John 2:4.

Jesus himself says that we can not lose our salvation
John 6:37

All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.

look up "let us fear" in the NT.

and "work out your salvation with fear and trembling" also in the NT.

and "begone from ME, I(Yeshua, Judge, Savior, Messiah) NEVER knew you" (on judgment day pronounced.)

i.e. SEEK and LISTEN TO YAHWEH and His Word, not to men. if you trust men, Yahweh says He curses those who trust men(flesh). and that everything of the flesh, is flesh, and profits nothing.

Salvation is defined as "a deliverance". Those that Christ died for cannot lose their eternal salvation (deliverance). (John :38), There is a (SALVATION) deliverance we receive while we dwell here on earth, and we experience this salvation almost daily (Luke 1:71). (Rom 10:1&9- They have a zeal of God, which indicates that they are already saved eternally, and if they confess their sin of self righteousness they can be delivered from that guilt. Almost all of the salvation scriptures in the bible are referring to a deliverance we receive here in this world, and they are dependent upon our works, unlike our eternal salvation. The bible is an instruction book from God telling us how we should live our lives here on earth.

you can lose it by denying Christ and go back to the world and act like the world. But also no one can take it away because it is a gift of God and only you make the choice to have it or not.....
If no one can "snatch them out of My Father's hand", as it says in John 10:29, that includes ourselves. Sorry, but true faith will never be denied, and salvation will never, ever be lost.

If you believe that God accomplishes his will, and you think that he wants all mankind to be saved eternally, then why do the scriptures tell us that there are some of mankind that will not be saved eternally?

But why would the Hebrew writer say "But we are not of them who draw back" if drawing back were not possible?

Salvation is a deliverance, most salvation scriptures are referring to a deliverance we receive here in this world. You can work out your own deliverance here in this world, but not your eternal deliverance, because eternal salvation is not of works (Eph 2:8). The scriptures do contradict each other.

All salvation scriptures do not refer to eternal salvation, in fact, most of them are referring to a deliverance (salvation) we receive here in this world by confessing, believing, praying and obeying God's commandments. The scriptures will always contradict each other unless you separate the salvation scriptures.

A born again child of God can be unfaithful in upholding God's commandments, and lose their fellowship with God and receive chastening from God. Even though a child of God can lose his fellowship with God, he will never lose his eternal salvation. Salvation is a deliverance and we are delivered many times over as we journey here in this world.

We can draw back and lose our relationship with God, but we can never lose our eternal salvation.

You are right on with your last statement. Non of us are good enough to enter into heaven by our own deeds, but Christ died for those that God gave him and none that he died for will lose their eternal salvation. Though we continue to sin after Jesus has paid for those sins, we will not lose our eternal salvation. God looks upon those that Christ died for as having no sins and will live with him in heaven.

What does faith say?

We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

He will never leave us nor forsake us.

No man can pluck us from His Hand.

Jesus said if a demon goes out of a man, then it is swept clean and a nice dwelling place. But he say latr that demon will return with seven others and the last state will be worse than the first. He also speaks of a pig ,that once it is washed it will again return to it's own mire, to wallow in again. I am thankful when I have gone through hard times and basically forgot about God , when I came to my senses and acknowledged God again (usually out of fear)he has always received me with a unearthly love I have never had the guts, once I start trembling and feeling sick about confronting God later in this condition,
