What they do not teach in business school...the workman is due his hire and do not muzzle the ox that treads out the grain.

If you have responsibility for people who work for you then you are responsible to God to pay them fairly and care for their Spiritual welfare.

For the cause of Christ
Roger
I took business classes and read books on how to make a business. They all teach that.

Why do people instantly see business people as evil? Was the person you worked for evil every time? And, if you had/have your own business, are you then evil?

I've worked many jobs back when I could. Three bosses were evil. Sometimes it took me a while to get that. Once I did, I quit. The longest time I worked for someone who was evil was three months.

All my other bosses? Not evil. And they did understand I deserved money for my work. They were gracious to hire me, and, in gratitude, I tried to make their decision a good one.

And then as I started my own business and the work started taking more hours than I could give, I spent my time doing the mind-numbing part of the work, while planning how to hire help. My first concern was that I would be fair to the helper.

The only reason I did not hire that help was because God had other plans. I became disabled.

For anyone who works, they are "business." Business isn't just a word for the bosses. It's a word for the employee and customer too. YOU are business. Every time you work, anytime you buy a product or service, you ARE business.

Prepare your work outside; get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your house.
Proverbs 24:27 ESV

I'm in a funny place at the moment. Both my wife and I are desiring to shatter the mold by learning to create a passive income. In another words, making money work for you, not perpetually working for money or in other words, not perpetually trading time for money.

I have been desiring to own our own home for a while but at the same time I want to learn to invest. My interests seem divided and I was never taught money smarts. We don't live Lavish, we have only what we need, and I was thinking what should be done first, then this scripture came to mind.

Life wise, we have done it backwards without realising, having a family before setting ourselves up like this scripture says but God knows what's going on.
Did you do it backwards? I can think of Jacob, who spent 21 years of his life preparing to make it on his own with wives and business. BUT I also can see a cute little couple. The guy was a carpenter. The woman was a peasant girl. I'm not sure how good the carpenter's income was, but I do know they didn't have enough money to talk an innkeeper into letting them stay there right before their first child was born.

By all accounts, (both the world's version and the Bible's version), hubby and I did it right. (By circumstances, not by plan all the time. lol) When we married, he was a 33 year old with a healthy tract record on working and using his money wisely. I was 24, so can't say I had much of a tract record at all, but I was working 50 hours a week, and being paid minimum wage for only 30 of those hours. My rent was always paid on time, so were my bills, and, even if I had to eat meat out of a can once a week, I was living within my means.

Together we saved, like we were supposed to do. Good thing, because he broke his back and couldn't go back to what he did for over a year. Nope, we hadn't saved that much, but we got a job that included room and board. (Group home parents.)

We went from middle-class to poor. And after that job, (oi vey! Group home parents is a tough gig -- 22 hours of work per day, every day, because kids sneak out at night, and cops bring them home at 3-5 AM), we had to start from scratch and build back up to middle-class. Nine years later, we had the savings and the house. Eight years after that, we had the house, the savings, and the retirement income. (Six figures worth of retirement savings, before the economy tanked.) I then became disabled. And three years after that, the savings, the retirement package, and his health were gone. We were both disabled.

"Man plans. God laughs."

Nowadays, we tend to laugh with him. Because it really is how he plans our lives, even while we're busy thinking we're planning, and executing that plan.

It is good to have a plan. All I'm trying to say is don't think The Plan saves. God is sovereign, even in our plans. He saves.

PRO. 14:16.
A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

21:20.
There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.

24:5.
A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

I had this one come in my verse of the day today. I love it.

Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly.
Psalms 112:5 NLT

17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

I'm interested as to why you posted that scripture?

Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.Proverbs 22:29 ESV

This is brilliant! I think I've experienced this in some form once before a couple years ago.

I'd really like to flesh some of these scriptures out and understand them more!
wonderful, this is the first one i thought to share!

so, the second:

But we urge you, brethren, to excel still more, and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we commanded you, so that you will behave properly toward outsiders and not be in any need.
(1 Thessalonians 4:10-12)

not making earthly riches your goal doesn't mean don't work to earn bread & rent :rolleyes:
and considering the proverb - along with others, working for the Lord, not for men - it doesn't mean we ought to willfully do a shoddy job at anything, either!

17...cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread...

Prior to this, Adam was riding the gravy train.
From here on out he would be working for a living.
It was the beginning of the toil and strife that we still face today.
I'm confident that Eternal Life will be easier.

A few I use to keep myself in line :) :

Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord, But a just weight is His delight. (Prov. 11:1)

Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; (Prov. 3:9)

Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease! (Prov. 23:4)

Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you. (Heb. 13:5)

Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. (1 Tim. 6:6-9)
