Last night I was watching a show about Waco, Texas. I didn't realize that Koresh claimed to be the second coming of Christ and where Jesus was a good Messiah he was a bad Messiah. Can anyone else think of people that have claimed to be the second coming of Christ?

Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. Matt. 24:23

Who? Not sure about Koresh, but it seems like every minute somebody on earth comes with claim that he is Christ, returned Christ, incarnation of Christ or of Christ conscience (whatever that should mean)...

In my country, even some woman claims she is incarnation of Christ. I would post her video, but nobody here would understand the language, so its probably meaningless.

The point is, its nothing extraordinary these days.

When the real Christ will return, there will be no doubts. His sign will appear in skies and every eye will see Him coming with the holy ones. Also, Christians will be taken up to meet with him in clouds.

I am not certain but I think both Jimmy Jones and Sun Moon made that claim.

That's interesting, this is the first time I have heard of a woman claiming to be Christ. Hear is an article about Koresh.

ROFL Krishna Venta
(1911—1958), born Francis Herman Pencovic in San Francisco, founded the WKFL (Wisdom, Knowledge, Faith and Love) Fountain of the World cult in Simi Valley, California in the late 1940s. In 1948 he stated that he was Christ, the new messiah and claimed to have led a convoy of rocket ships to Earth from the extinct planet Neophrates. He died on December 10, 1958 after being suicide bombed by two disgruntled former followers who accused Venta of mishandling cult funds and having been intimate with their wives.

Matt. 24: 4- 5

What Jesus actually meant by this has to be understood in contrast to the first warning He gave, is what He and the Apostles taught on many occasions, the Christian brothers and sisters themselves, and those claiming to be teachers of the word, are the ones deceiving many.

Many shall come in my name, saying I am Christ.

I am Christ, is better translated there, as I am of Christ. I'm Christian . This is how most Christians are lead to deception today, and its the most subtle . Ask people why we have so many denominations saying different things ?

.

Then in
Matt. 24:23 He speaks of a singular, Anti Christ . One that arrives instead of Himself literally claiming to be God.
The anti christ would take advantage of the foundation those false teachings laid..

I still think it could be applied to modern times.

in my first two years I saw a man on t.v. by name of jesus it was mexican so the the j made an h sound and he claimed to be Jesus and was being interviewed by a news reporter and the news reporter asked what he can do to prove he is Jesus CHrist and all this man did was say I do greater things than Jesus of Nazareth he didn't show any signs or miracles and yet had thousands of followers believing him to be Jesus. I honestly don't understand how that is possible.

I think if they were anointed they wouldn't have to say so the anointing would speak for itself but you know, whatever.

This interesting. In his book "The People That Time Forgot" Ernest L. Martin says that the Simon in acts that had been a sorcerer came to believe and when he saw the apostles laying their hands on people and the Holy Ghost was given Acts 8:18 he offered them money so they would give him the power to be able to do that. Peter said "Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. v.20 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. v.21

His name was Simon Magus and he was a Samaritan and started a cult called the Simonians and he claimed to be God and Jesus. (Against Heresies I.23.1)

Kind of hard to stretch that passage into what you just claimed:

Matthew 24:23-25 GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
23 “At that time don’t believe anyone who tells you, ‘Here is the Messiah!’ or ‘There he is!’ 24 False messiahs and false prophets will appear. They will work spectacular, miraculous signs and do wonderful things to deceive, if possible, even those whom God has chosen. 25 Listen! I’ve told you this before it happens.
