Also let's be real; teens are going to be taught about sex no better place to teach it than at church (not explicitly and appropriate of course). Because their going to get their information somewhere....

If we serve the Master, then we should teach what the Master teaches. Find graphic sex education in His teachings and pass the teachings on, otherwise, leave the sex education to those who need to talk about it, but outside of the actual assembling of any assembly of God.

I don't think anyone is against teaching about sex . The things the Bible says about sex is that: sex is for marriage, a man and a woman; it's supposed to be an expression of love, as well as a means to have children; and sexual temptations do occur, so we need to flee from situations where we can be tempted ( and this is where we are all different, but we have biblical principles we can consider).

Teaching sex outside of biblical grounds is not something you do lightly, because basically it's just your opinion, and because the fact is that nobody needs to hear what you do with your wife( or husband) in bed. Not to mention that not being careful with what words you use might cause somebody ( or alot of people) to stumble. There are things the Bible is silent about, and those are things you don't preach behind the pulpit on a regular sunday.

I am saying what kayM is saying, needmeJesus, and, I am not saying that sex cannot be talked about, just needs caution and by right people in right setting, like AnandaHya says too, like a Bible study, but, personally I guess, that for teens there are, should be, anyway, I think better topics to focus on, like doing helpful things for poor in your city or doing work to landscape your church or ???

Sorry, I am older, sigh, so I probably sound fuddy-duddy, LOL, but I.am waiting until marriage for sex and I think that young people under 19 do NOT need very much sex before marriage series in big group setting.

But I do have one verse, or, two, for temptation resisting , as KayM, mentioned that word: Blessed is the man or woman who endures temptation, for when he has been approved he will receive the crown of life which the Kord has promised to those who love Him. James 1:12

Now, since I'm preaching a message on temtation, I will say the verse after this one tells us God never does tempt you with evil nor can God be tempted by evil.

Then we go to 2 Cor. 7:10 -- no temptation has taken over you that is not common to man, and, in that temptation you so desire to say I DO want to do.this, God will provide you a way out.

Yes, I paraphrased it, but that's the gist, needmeJesus, God bless and keep you, young lady :)

Remember in the 90's when those WWJD bracelets were really popular and churches turned into coffee shops and clubs where bands would play and kids could pick up new Jesus merchandise and play pool and hang out? Nobody ever really talked about scripture, but they knew all the words to DC Talk songs and called themselves Jesus Freaks?

This isn't much weirder than that.

I never liked the term "Jesus Freaks". Thats what the world calls us, why call ourselves that? Its the people who reject Jesus that are the freaks.

But yeah, I remember when all of that first hit the scene

Not totally sure what made me think of that... maybe just that times are changing and churches change with it?

It's not new that some churches would do weird, radical or outlandish things to try and get butts in seats.

I'm not a fan of the worldly gimmicks and devices to try and boost attendance, but I can at least understand the mindset that would lead people to thinking stuff like Lifechurch and all that is a good idea.

For a few glorious years in the 90s, it was actually cool to be a Christian. It was unfortunately temporary because it was a house built on sand, but it was fun while it lasted. Hopefully some people became real Christians from that experience.
