I have too admit one reason I don't use my phone or tablet for a Bible is because I get lost. I don't text or type fast so by the time I find the passage the sermon is over and I didn't hear a darn thing lol.

Some churches, in this area at least, when you become a member ask for your account info and they take 10% of your weekly income.
That is not a church that I would want to belong to.

I use "My Sword" on my smartphone and use "E Sword" on my tablet. I also like listening to the dramatized "Word of Promise" read along app for my tablet, too. Mostly I use Biblehub.com's website for reading while out and about and or when researching verses when talking with others. I also like Open Bible. Info for there cross references search tool. They have the largest collection of cross references online that I found. I also like Blue Letter Bible for doing key word searches.
Word of Promise app is a very entertaining app.

The only downside is Jim Caviezel as Jesus. He doesn't really put much emotion into the reading of Jesus. Besides that. Very good fun.

I think as long as you don't have a New World Translation you are fine with Bible apps. That translation is Jehovahs witness and they have changed it to what they want it to say.

Many people across the world do not have access to a bible. But they cannot stop smart phone apps. Many North Koreans havew been killed for having a paper bible. But with the smart phone apps they cannot find it nor stop it. God gives us technology to further preach the gospel. Although that technology is used for perversion God thinks about the souls that will be saved by that technology.

E Sword is probably most useful app for my tablet.

I guess in my post about being seen with my paper Bible I was mainly referring to my children seeing me reading the Bible, taking it to church, as they copy what you do more than what you say. They know Mama's Bible is special to her but with my tablet I could be looking at anything.

I can relate to that. Sometimes it's what people see in our hands that motivates them.

What's a smart phone?

A couple of things.
1. Study to show yourself approved unto God...........
Will God approve? Are you using something that won't make you as familiar with His word as the bible?
2. 1 Thessalonians 5:22 "Abstain from all appearance of evil."
If someone sees you do that in church, will they think you are playing games?

A church service is a very inappropriate time or place for it, IMHO.

If you have kids, they might enjoy the Action Bible. It is a 17 to 20 dollar hard cover comic book that is a couple hundreds pages thick.

Granted, it is not like a real Bible, but it is a good tool to help them to get them more excited into reading His Word.

I have almost every translation of the Bible in my study for the simple fact of some make the verse easier to understand. And some are for kids. Plus in my personal study it's good to look at other translations for maybe better Understsnding. This isn't to show off but to help in my personal study.

The only thing I really miss about paper Bibles is the sense of space. You learn to intuitively feel where certain parts of the Bible are in space, and can open up to those just with 'feel', whereas you don't really have that experience in apps - it's much more two dimensional in that sense.

Having said that, it's scarcely worse than when people read off papyrus or scrolls, before binding was a thing. You either had one big sheet of papyrus, perhaps wrapped up in a scroll, or you would have a lot of smaller sheets that you would collect together, or have to rustle amongst - not heaps conducive to the nice 'feel' of a bound book! :)

Our church gives new kids to the student ministries a copy of the Action Bible. Nice way to get kids interested into reading the Bible. We have 6 of them (yep 6 kids between us) "

I had a friend years ago who would simply sit at a bus bench with his bible open reading it quietly to himself when before long he'd have many come up to him inquiring about it.

I doubt that scheme would work today sitting at a bus stop with a tablet and bible app, as the passer-bys would be having their face buried in their smart phones completely oblivious to their surroundings.

I think there are pros and cons to both. I love a hardcover Bible. Just the feel of it, the tactile nature of turning pages and reading physical pages. That said, the smart phone is a lot more convenient and can carry/access many more translations. Also, you take your phone most places, so it's always on your person. I use both a physical Bible and Bible translations etc. on my laptop and smartphone. In church I tend to use my hard copy Bible.

Thanks for the recommendation!!! I think my seven year old son will love it, he can pass his The Beginner's Bible to his sister. Now should I buy it on hardcover or kindle edition:D

I have tried reading Bible comics on my Ipad before and I find them hard to read sometimes (Because you have to pinch and zoom on the screen so as to see it, etc.). I have read the hard cover myself and find it to be very entertaining and well illustrated. It is available for only 16 bucks and some change at Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Action-Bible-Doug-Mauss/dp/0781444993/

752 pages of full color (Hard cover) for 16 bucks. It is definitely a deal. You will never find a graphic novel or comic like that at such a price in normal comic book shops. At least in my experience anyways.
