Eg, you stated,
The Prodigal Son was dead.
Luk 15:24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
If you equate "being dead in sin" to "inability to turn to God" then how did the Prodigal Son leave the pig pen?
How did those in Nineveh forsake their rebellion? Surely they were dead in their sins too. Yet they had the ability to turn.
Being dead in sin does not negate ability. Forsaking sin and turning to God for mercy and sustenance IS NOT saving yourself. Such action is simply doing what he has commanded all men to do. We are perfectly capable.
The truth is that SIN IS A CHOICE. Sinners CHOOSE TO SIN and sinners can CHOOSE TO NOT SIN. Yet forsaking sin cannot save someone because the previous sins have already wrought condemnation and defilement which cannot be undone by the sinner. That is why the sinner needs the grace of God. The fallacy commonly believed today is that when one is dead in sin they lack the ability to obey God. Yet the whole tenure of the Bible is a call for people to forsake their rebellion and yield to God.

The prodigal son had to be made a son first. How was he made a son? By his father. Before he was made the son, he had no life. He did not create himself nor did he birth himself nor did he adopt himself.
Before anyone comes to Christ, THEY ARE DEAD, When are you going to admit a dead person CAN NOT SAVE HIMSELF. OR HELP IN SAVING HIMSELF?
The prodigal son WAS STILL THE SON, He just LOST ACCESS TO HIS FATHERS BLESSINGS. He never stopped being the son!
What is important is how he became the son to begin with, Not what happened after, If your not made a son first. You do not have access to ANYTHING AFTER!
