Just thought I would share some more of what I have been learning as I've been studying!

2 Corinthians 2:14-16 (CJB)

14 But thanks be to God, who in the Messiah constantly leads us in a triumphal procession and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of what it means to know him!
15 For to God we are the aroma of the Messiah, both among those being saved and among those being lost;
16 to the latter, we are the smell of death leading only to more death; but to the former, we are the sweet smell of life leading to more life. Who is equal to such a task?

HOW? We know it is NOT by the works of the Law…
Ephesians 5:1-2 (CJB)
1 So imitate God, as his dear children;
2 and live a life of love, just as also the Messiah loved us, indeed, on our behalf gave himself up as an offering, as a slaughtered sacrifice to God with a pleasing fragrance.

In order to be a sweet-smelling savour (in the KJV)/fragrance we are to “imitate God” and have the attitude of Philippians 2:5 “Let your attitude toward one another be governed by your being in union with the Messiah Yeshua:”This is known as having the mind of Christ in the KJV. How can we imitate Christ? We would need to study not only Christ’s character but also ALL of what God’s Word tells us about our character and what is acceptable and what is not.

In the Old Testament sacrifices, the “sweet savour” is what was burnt up.

When the flesh is destroyed, what is created (by means of transformation, i.e. chemical reaction - as flesh becomes ash when burned). We (flesh) die daily and pick up our cross daily to follow Christ – when we are the spiritual temple as scripture says in 1 Corinthians 3:16: “Don't you know that you people are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?”

(The enmity was destroyed when the physical temple was replaced by the spiritual (Hebrews 8:13) as explained also in Ephesians 2:15-16 (CJB) 15 by destroying in his own body the enmity occasioned by the Torah, with its commands set forth in the form of ordinances. He did this in order to create in union with himself from the two groups a single new humanity and thus make shalom, 16 and in order to reconcile to God both in a single body by being executed on a stake as a criminal and thus in himself killing that enmity.”)

Since this is an oft misunderstood scripture, I thought it wise to clarify a couple of things. First the definition of “enmity” which is “the state or feeling of being actively opposed or hostile to someone or something” …in short, “hatred” And secondly, note that it is this “enmity” that is destroyed…the enmity (active opposition to, in this case, the “Law”/Torah). This is so often taught as the law was nailed to the cross, and this is simply not true.

That's a really inaccurate translation of Phillippians 2:5 found in the Complete Jewish Bible. This is what that verse really says.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Philippians 2:5

Okay. Have it your way. This is directly from the original scrolls of Philippians.
"And think you so in yourselves, as Y'shua the Mashiyach also thought; verse 6: who, as he was in the likeness of Elohim, did not regard it sinful to be the coequal of Elohim; Philippians 2:5-6

But then, we both knew you would find fault with anything I said didn't we?

Yep. Blatantly trying to Judaize Christianity.

Is this seriously where your hearts are at? Calling someone who witnesses what the bible actually says a fault finder?

Hey, I'm the one (of the two of us) who believes the entire Bible and you are the one who is finding fault and disregarding parts of God's Word.

Like I said before, have it your way. Someday you may find the truth. At this point you are pumping false doctrine by using only part of God's Word. As we taught our children when they were very young - partial truth is not truth and makes the whole statement a lie.

You need to find another word - it is now common knowledge that 'judaizer' is inaccurate for anyone on cc.

Let me get this straight. You're accusing us of only using part of the bible, yet you use a bible that isn't an accurate translation of the original text? Oh my...

LOL. Naw, I'll just stick with the truth, and those words that accurately describe it.

I use at least four different translations - not that it makes a difference in what I say to you.

Well, since certain people cannot allow truth and edification to take place, I am putting those who insist upon following me around to trash and derail my posts, on ignore. So, if it appears I am not replying to them ...rest assured...I'm not!

Romans 16:17 (CJB) I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put snares alongside the teaching in which you have been trained - keep away from them.
(NAS) Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them.
(KJV) Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned ; and avoid them.

If we cannot share our learning with one another without harassment it is downright pitiful. I don't go looking for their comments on various threads just so I can 'pick a fight' as the old saying goes, and it would be nice if they would abide by the golden rule we were taught as little children. But, you know, I do believe they wish I - and others - would pick fights with them because that is what they thrive on! I don't, but I will continue to post what God gives me and trust that someone has been benefited somehow by what I share.

Oh dear -- I probably shouldn't have said it that way--I have already been ridiculed for saying that God told me something, thinking all Christians have this happen to them when they are sincere -- which is how it is supposed to be--but these few who like to follow me (and a few others) around to derail anything I say obviously don't experience this--what does that mean, I wonder?

Now, back to what I was studying.

Thanks, I haven't studied Corinthians a lot. Your thread caused me to read a few chapters, and it's comforting to read again how they persevered and was comforted by each other in times of trouble. Count it all joy! right? Our conduct, every minute of every day, is either pleasing to our Maker (a sweet savor/aroma),,or displeasing (which would necessarily mean foul odor/stench/putrid).

Good reminder sister! We need all the reminders we can get.:)

True.
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.

No such thing as existing original scrolls of Phillipians. We only have scribal copies and the CJB is a translation of some of those copies. no wool dust here please.

Sometimes I think about those who literally died rather than succumb to someone else's idea of what was right, like my 14th great grandfather, Ralph Jackson, who was burned at the stake for not accepting Catholicism, as many others who are written about in Foxe's Book of Martyrs. I can endure and fight at least as much as I must in order to contend for the faith - the TRUE faith - you know that faith that causes us to do the "works" God has determined for each of us -- I know you know what I mean ;)

When I first came to CC I was chided for quoting a person I agreed with. lol..they said that we are only supposed to quote what we don't agree with and say why we don't agree. ..that I was causing confusion.

Now and then I go back and read from old threads, and it's clear as day and very encouraging too, you can actually see the growth of some members! Hopefully, I am being transformed too, that is my belief and hope. May He grant us all maturity and to grow up in stature so we need not be taught that which we should already know.

Thanks for sharing your studies!

I will not debate the value of the Peshitta Aramaic scrolls with you but I have read enough evidence that causes me to believe they are more reliable by far than the KJV for instance. The CJB is very accurate particularly concerning the Old Testament, (realizing it is paraphrased into our more common terminology) but since the New Testament was written in Aramaic, and then translated into Greek and other languages, I prefer to use it with any other versions I study the New Testament from. Argue if you want - I've already had this 'discussion' with others who think they know all there is to know about historical languages, and I prefer to believe the word of scholars over people with no credentials except their own word and if pressed for proof, would probably give a "degree" from some liberal college or other. Do I sound disgusted and unimpressed? I am. This is not what God expects those who claim to be His to act like. Yes, I will continue to do as He tells me, whether I like it or not, but I do not have to contend with self-righteous professing Christians. I love the ignore button - I just worry about those who are deceived by those who preach grace only, like the guests and the young Christians who don't know the extent of the evil out there.

This is the way it is supposed to work.
DIRECTIVE: Matthew 28:18-20
18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe ALL that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
SO: 2 Corinthians 3:3 You make it clear that you are a letter from the Messiah placed in our care, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on stone tablets but on human hearts.

People are supposed to be able to see something in Christians that makes them want the same thing we have. Our demeanor and character is, as 2 Corinthians 3:3 says, an open letter to the entire world – every single person we come in contact with every single day – inviting them to become a disciple of Christ. And it does work when we also follow all of the instructions God has given us. Just imagine if every person who professes to be a Christian had the character we are supposed to have…what a wonderful world this would be!
Some of those instructions:
Colossians 3 & 4 12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with feelings of compassion and with kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with one another; if anyone has a complaint against someone else, forgive him. Indeed, just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must forgive. 14 Above all these, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together perfectly; 15 and let the shalom [peace] which comes from the Messiah be your heart's decision-maker, for this is why you were called to be part of a single Body. And be thankful - 16 let the Word of the Messiah, in all its richness, live in you, as you teach and counsel each other in all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude to God in your hearts. 17 That is, everything you do or say, do in the name of the Lord Yeshua, giving thanks through him to God the Father. 23 Whatever work you do, put yourself into it, as those who are serving not merely other people, but the Lord. 4:2 Keep persisting in prayer, staying alert in it and being thankful. 4:5 Behave wisely toward outsiders, making full use of every opportunity - 6 let your conversation always be gracious and interesting, so that you will know how to respond to any particular individual.

Galatians 5:22-23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 humility, self control. Nothing in the Torah stands against such things.

Galatians 6:2 2 Bear one another's burdens - in this way you will be fulfilling the Torah's true meaning, which the Messiah upholds.

Romans 12:17 Repay no one evil for evil, but try to do what everyone regards as good.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore, encourage each other, and build each other up - just as you are doing.

Ephesians 4: 2 Always be humble, gentle and patient, bearing with one another in love,

Of course there are many more instructions in God’s Word but these few are things we can do right this very minute here in the forums.
