Why is the building laws not requiring these building to have sprinklers, fire alarms, working fire doors (aka no gaps at the bottom), working Windows or fire escapes?

.
". There’s no sprinklers, no fire alarms and the security cameras don’t work.".
Didn't they have to be inspected when renovating the building?

These folks are going to be sued and go out of business
.
"Rydon, the company involved in the upgrading of Grenfell, reclad four 22-storey blocks and one 18-storey block in the Swiss Cottage estate as part of a £18m revamp 11 years ago.".

im not sure mate if the smoke was thick up the stairs ? what would you do then ?
If you were in the top of that building you have about 3 or 4 options....

a. Triple gainer out the window
b. Get lucky and a chopper takes you off the roof
c. Be prepared with a rope or shute that will actually open before you hit the ground
d. Pray and die...........

BAD day for anyone in the top with no way out....you want to see what fire will cause a man to do....google and watch 911 videos of people bailing out 100 stories above the ground..............splatttt (tragic and not making light of it)

Tall building.
From what I've read: Fire escape ladder didn't go all the way up, and only one stairwell.
Doesn't sound to me like it was built the way it should
I just thought of a good idea... they should have had fold away shoots on each floor fire proof etc..

Fire escape chutes

The simple problem with chutes is they are no good if the fire in on the outside of the building.
Secondly fat obese people would simply block them and get stuck.
Claustophobic people would also never use them.

You've obviously never been in a fire Peter.

The fire seems to have been a catalogue of disasters, too many some would say for coincidence to be at work. here are some possible issues.

1) The super flammable cladding
2) The council & Housing Agency seem to have completely ignored the residents' very vocal concerns
over several years
3) The fire brigade did not seem to have any prioritization for tower blocks - surely they would be 'code red'
4) There was very very limited road access to the block - in the case of multiple engines (for fire /ambulance) it was virtually unworkable. The block is actually at the end of a cul-de-sac
5) There was one stairwell to exit the building - 1 stairwell for 27 floors
6) There were no external fire escapes
7) The stairwell was blocked
8) How did the fire spread outside - didn't the man in the flat have the gumption to close his windows?
9) How come for several hours residents were told to stay in their flats?
10) How come some residents reported being stopped from leaving their flats and sent back to their flats by the fire brigade?
11) How come there were no fire extinguishers on the floors?
12) Don't the fire brigade have helicopters to drop water, like they do for forest fires?
13) There was no sprinkler system in the block

Those are just a few issues. Probably many more.

Rumblings are that riots will ensure.

Will pray that riots change to peaceful protests and a change in government regulation or enforcement of fire safety for construction or renovation of buildings: fire escaoes, sprinklers, fire alarms, inspections, removal of the "stay put" clause in fire signs, fire truck access from the road, etc.

It may be that riots are inevitable.

Britain was, some would say, a tinderbox of tensions before this.

Theresa May now has to show what she is made of.

Riots about what?

What has been impressive is how the community is pulling together.
The tragedy is most did not stand a chance.

Across the whole country people in similar blocks are now is great fear.
Fires have occurred in block of flats like this, but never spread like this.

It is this fear and assessing the real risk and the cost is going to be
massive.

lol.

101 things.

That building looked like a vertical slave ship.

On the horizontal axis, Britain is rocking with homegrown Jihadis causing mayhem.

Throw in an extreme heatwave, EU meddling and reprisals, factions of patriots and Europhiles, and any kind of economic disaster, (which is very close at the door btw), and things can get very ugly, I mean Martial Law ugly.

Have you ever lived in London or know its people?
We are a long way from Martial Law, and the jihadis are just nutcases wanting trouble.

If you want to look at problems the economic divide and what life expectations youngsters
have is a real issue. One tower block fire is about design and habitation of such residences.

And this statement "That building looked like a vertical slave ship." is just rubbish.

You do not know what you are talking about.

52,000 votes. That is what Corbyn needed to win.

The military have stated they will not work under Corbyn. So that is just one route to Martial Law.

London is a hell-hole.

And since you have amnesia, it was not so long ago that London was gripped by riots and the govt was very close to declaring Martial law
