I am a little confused about this subject. Based on this scripture alone

Luke 10:19

Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.
It seems to me that Jesus while saying this to his disciples was not meaning this to simply be for them but for all of us who are in Christ, Many teach how we have inherited power and authority in Christ and how the gates of hell cannot stand against us how we are made royalty and adopted as his children and thus we have the same power and the same authority that Jesus had and gave to his disciples.

I have always said in my own heart that Christians are not of the natural but the supernatural I have no idea where this train of thought came from as I haven't heard anyone say this before but it makes me wonder if we have such power and authority why is it that not many of us actually live as if this is true? and what does it mean to live as such? in my opinion which feel free to correct me if I am wrong to live in his power and authority is to be confident in him and wield his power to not be beaten down by the enemy but to be able to stand against him, to be able to utilize his power according to the fathers will. Notice how in everything jesus did in all his miracles all the power he showed he never did it according to his own will he always did it according to the fathers he never acted on his own but waited for the fathers orders.

I have heard that this power and authority given to us when we are born again but tbh I have never once been able to tap into this, inside I feel as one without power and the enemy is always trampling over me I never truly am able to overcome I never am able to stand against him. Last night was perhaps the moment where this was most true to me, yesterday was the worst day the stress how horrible it was was on a level I have not experienced in a very long time I gave everything I had to make it a good day but I lost all strength and I broke down. The stress and how horrible I felt and how horrible the day was was so intense that I was bawling and I even asked God why satan is so strong, not wanting to give him credit but he had clearly beaten me and I remembered the scriptures of the power and authority we have in Christ how hell cannot stand against us and I asked myself where is this power and authority? if this is true then why is it that the enemy has such a strong hold against me?

Last night was the weakest I have ever been in my time in faith I had never felt so defeated so powerless so weak against the enemy, and no matter how I look at it he beat me last night he was strong I was weak and I lost the battle even when I gave it my all and even cried out to God for help I still lost. So where is this power and authority and how can anyone even begin to tap into it? if it's a matter of faith then I am not going to be able because I obviously lack the faith needed and I cannot just force such faith to appear in me it doesn't work like that. I am tired of the enemy always having such power over me always beating me down always limiting what God and I can do always proving I am not an overcomer bt if one lacks the faith and if they are missing something then how does one begin to walk in the power and authority in Christ?

I honestly have no idea, I feel like it's like learning to walk first you crawl

Ummm....Jesus was speaking to His disciples who were being empowered as apostles to start the church, they had a specific calling. While we can learn spiritual truths from all scripture we can take every single scripture and make it fit our needs.
As for battling sinful desires;

James 1:13-25 (KJV)[SUP]13 [/SUP]Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
[SUP]14 [/SUP]But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Philemon 1:6 (KJV)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

Job 22:28 (NASB)
[SUP]28 [/SUP] "You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you; And light will shine on your ways.

Look at what our Lord Jesus did for us in the cross but don't stay there...go on to the resurrection as we have been raised form the dead with Him. Find out who you are in Christ now and "declare it"..and it will become a reality to you...and the truth of His life in you will manifest in this world. In the meantime...remember this..

Romans 8:1-2 (NASB)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
[SUP]2 [/SUP] For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin
and of death.

In light of my previous post I didn't want to sound insensitive. If you are struggling with sin then you need to seek help from your pastor and brothers at your home church. There are even support groups at other churches that are open to anyone. There is no such thing as solo soldiers in Christ. We are a body jointly fit together and need one another. I pray the Lord strengthen and enlighten you and yes I'm even here for you.

Ephesians 1:3-12
[SUP]3 [/SUP]Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
[SUP]4 [/SUP]According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
[SUP]6 [/SUP]To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
[SUP]8 [/SUP]Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
[SUP]9 [/SUP]Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
[SUP]10 [/SUP]That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
[SUP]11 [/SUP]In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
[SUP]12 [/SUP]That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

Be encouraged little brother I as well as many have been where you are now.
I can only speak for my self so here it goes.
You did not share on the specifics of your troubles of last nite but all I can tell you bro is rejoice and again I say rejoice.
If you think that Satan is buffeting you in some way then you need to know something he knows that his time is short so he doesn't like to waste his time so you might have foiled him in some way. Now greater is he that is in you than he of the world so stop listening to the roar...keep your focus on Jesus.
If it's the old man that's reared his head then again rejoice. If it's caused you to sin or backside in some way that is not your rejoicing but the fact that the Lord may be working on a weakness in you and like any good father he will correct his children. But also strengthen them. In times like this I go to my refrigerator and read what promises God has given me because I had posted them for all to see on the fridge. It reminds me of the nature of my father and encourages me in my walk. Ill keep ya in prayer brother but remember this ...all things work for the good for those that are found in Christ Jesus.

Hey everyone, no it isn't a matter of sin that I am dealing with. I am in a point of my life where stress is abound and it has been effecting me in the following ways- I am so stressed that the littlest things set me off, the stress is making me feel like I am losing my mind, it is making my body feel horrible and it's also effecting my diabetes which is not good for my health.

Honestly although I don't agree that Jesus was specifically speaking to the apostles and not us as well I think maybe under the stress I was hasty in making this thread. The problem is that I had a moment of weakness and it was really bad as I am not usually one to speak like I did in my op. I am someone who is always upbeat and I live to uplift and encourage others but the level of stress was so heavy that I was not in my right mind as I am sure you know I never speak like I did in the op. However the subject is still legit I think, if Jesus only meant for the apostles to walk in his power and authority then all of those songs that sing that the same power that raised Jesus from the grave lives in us and all those encouraging scriptures of how the gates of hell cannot stand against us were lying.

Now I'm not saying we can suddenly have this awesome power to do all the apostles did but how do we stand against the devil then? How do we command demons to leave in Jesus name? and for that matter how are we going to be able to overcome all that the enemy throws at us? I mean do we just deal with all that is thrown at us? do we just get by or do we overcome? We are in a spiritual war everyday even if we don't realize it and you cannot fight the things of the spiritual with anything else but the spiritual

I myself, have had this happen many times. Although, at the end of my rope? I hear this voice in me head that asks: "Are ya tired yet?" Sometimes, I hear: "Have i got your attention yet?" Trust me, when the Father who created the whole universe, and everything therein, wants your attention? He KNOWS which buttons to push, and to which ones you'll respond. Like, it seems, that at a "certain" point of spiritual growth and/or maturation,it's "like": "Don't call ME.....I'LL call you!" His "Name", in cases as these?: Lord Of The Harvest!

Cuz as in the book of James, we find, that "we" are scattered. Or as Jesus stated: "There'll not be ONE block on top of another!" As He was referring to the "Temple".

Blain dear brother

If we are still walking in the flesh we will experience defeat like this. To walk in the Spirit we must be entirely submitted. If you are entirely submitted you will be able to control your diabetes which is possibly at the root of the stress you feel.

Sure you've got the power, you've just got to use it...the power is your bible. The serpent can't inject his venom into you if you read and believe your bible... same with the scorpion, he can't sting you with accusations because the word says you're blameless in Christ. You have all power over the enemy... just use it and you shall be no means be hurt.

We have power and authority over all spiritual evil, and spiritual deception, that it cannot harm us in any way,or cause us to stray, but as far as people that would hurt us,maybe God will deliver us,and maybe He will not deliver us.

Jesus said resist evil, and this is spiritual evil.

Jesus said,do not resist evil, and this is physical evil, which means people harming us,which means do not fight back.

God will deliver us from all spiritual evil, but might not deliver us from physical evil, although He might deliver us,but if God has a work for you nobody can thwart it,like Jesus, which they could not touch Him until the time to give His body for our sins.

If Blain is in Christ then he's walking in the spirit. Saved people walk in the spirit lost people walk in the flesh... you're one or the other, you don't switch back and forth.

Romans 8:9 KJV
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

tbh the source of my stress was from others my diabetes was effected from the stress though. You see I am someone who connects emotionally to people for better or for worse, it is a blessing because when others are down and out I can connect to them emotionally feeling their sadness and their pain and having compassion on them even through the forums I can do this but it also is the same the other way when I am around people who are stressed angry and freaking out I become the same way.

Walking in the spirit is an interesting term, what exactly does it mean to walk in the spirit? I don't think it's just about being empowered like I was asking about I find that a lot of times it is also that connection to God. A lot of times my heart will connect to his and as strange as it sounds I am able to tell what he is feeling sometimes even what he is thinking, it's not often but sometimes this happens it's like a closeness or bond kind of thing. Like have ever been really close to someone and and you can tell what they are thinking and what they are feeling without them ever saying anything?

So why do so few believers experience the sort of Christianity we see in the NT despite great effort to?

Blain, the experience you have had is meant to be our settled state. Walking in the Spirit IMO means just that. We are led consistently by the Spirit in all things at all times. If you have fallen from your first love you need to be revived.

There is a time and season for everything, I have experienced things and seen beauties and wonders you cannot imagine but but it wasn't because of effort it was because the kind of relationship God and I share. The reason I believe most Christians don't experience all this is because of their relationship with God, it's all about your heart

Fallen from my first love? that my friend is not possible the love that God I share is far too deep and far to strong for that to happen, if you read my sig it says this-

When the hearts of God and a child of his make that special intimate connection a wondrous power is born and a flame ignites that can never be put out

Blain, l said if. If you have cooled off a little. I have never met anyone who remains in the honeymoon period.
