As we consider the Word of God let us turn our attention to who the Word of God and who it teaches us about, and that is the one and only Jesus the Christ.
Jesus said in John 5:39, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” One thing that has always amazed me is the fact that everybody is an expert on Jesus (Not that I am). Generally speaking during the days of Jesus the religious thought they had a grasp on things, but in reality they did not have a clue about who Jesus is and what he was here to do. Just as it was in the days of Jesus so it is now. Many people name Jesus and even think that they have a clue about who he is and what he is going to do when he comes back. Undoubtedly some facts are known but for the most part a lot of people who name Jesus go blindly through life without any clue because they refuse to pick up and study the Word of God. Below is a small, small list of some facts about Jesus the Christ and when we get done studying all of these in context and through the method that the Bible teaches which is, “comparing spiritual with spiritual” then we can all come back and tell each other about Jesus and who he is and what he is going to do when he comes back. :) Just saying that is....

Did you know?

There are some 1,845 references to the reign of Christ on this earth found in the Old Testament and these are found in at least 17 books of the Old Testament.

Of the 216 chapters of the New Testament, there are 318 references to the Second Coming of Jesus and this truth is mentioned in 23 of the 27 books of the N.T.

The importance of the coming kingdom of Christ is encountered in the fact that for every One prophecy concerning his first coming there are 8 that deal with his second coming.

As a humble believer I suggest that we all study the Bible in context while comparing spiritual with spiritual and come to solid conclusions based upon the facts instead of using tradition, supposition and just plain ole guess work. Be honest with yourself and God’s word and believe what the word teaches.

Wouldn't that be a novel idea? I mean actually pray for the Holy Spirit to teach us rather than turning on the TV and watching these guys sell the latest, and greatest truth that God wants you to know...for your seed of just $49.95. They want you see this great all important truth for a fee when it is actually free...for the asking.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
(Hosea 4:6)

And he said to me, “Son of man, eat what is before you, eat this scroll; then go and speak to the people of Israel.” So I opened my mouth, and he gave me the scroll to eat. Then he said to me, “Son of man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it.” So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.
(Ezekiel 3:1-3)

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
(Romans 10:17)

So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.
Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.
Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

(Psalm 73:22-26)

No doubt and why pay for what you can learn for free...albeit a lot of wearisome study over many years which in itself shows dedication.

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
(Deuteronomy 8:3, ref. in Matthew 4:4)

so many profess to believe that the inspired message of the Maker of heaven and earth to mankind is recorded in this book - and so many don't study it, read it, eat it up and digest it -- and yet even read so many other things!

how ridiculous is that?

the world is full of darkness, and the Word is light. how can anyone see where they are going if they don't take out and hold up the light?
but many say "come i'll show you which way to go; let me show you the way" and are every bit as blind as those they are trying to lead.

i'm confounded by believers who profess that the scriptures are the Word of God, but never take the time to look at them. all i can think is that what comes out of their mouths is not the same as what goes on in their hearts and minds.

(aside):
i have a bit of a habit of posting scripture without any comments -- i like to think that the Word speaks for itself, and that the Spirit interprets it to those that would receive it -- i don't live a completely un-examined life, haha, i know i tend to muck things up when i try to add my own thoughts!

Every word of God proves true;
he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
Do not add to his words,
lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.

(Proverbs 30:5-6)

For sure at the end of the day it is the Word of God that matters, but at the same time like Ezekiel, we are to give the (sense) of the scriptures and lay out a reasonable response to said word. We just need to be careful what we say as...

For by thy words thou shalt be...(convicted) and or (exonerated.) :)
