How do you judge? Telling the truth that someone is a troll, if indeed they are such, is not a sin and not about insulting people. Maybe you'd had problem with Eliyah and his strong rebuke of the false prophets of his day if you were around back then. Maybe you recall Jesus's rebuke of some Pharisees? The truth was spoken. That was the point.
We are under a New Covenant that is of a more perfect way in Christ (And we are not under the Old Covenant). We are also not Jesus, either (Who can read people's thoughts and hearts). Paul says we are to speak full of grace seasoned with salt. Calling somebody a "troll" is simply an unloving action (pure and simple). There is no love in a person when they say such a thing. They are only out to be hurtful and they desire to put down another when they do say such a thing (So as to uplift themselves). It's called being a bully; And bullies are not nice on the inside. For Jesus says that out of the abundance of the heart does the mouth speak. Is it the Word of God that is speaking out from within you, or is it your own insulting and hateful thoughts and words? Yes, the words of the Lord can correct others and can be offensive, but this is done in love so as to get them to repent and it is not done so as to put them down in a carnal way.

this is where I would insert a warning

"Please be advised that you are disrupting the thread and going off topic. Kindly do not accuse other believers. If you feel it necessary, kindly start another thread to discuss your observation. Please respect this request, or the administration will ban you from this thread and you will be in read only mode. Thank you for your co-operation and please enjoy your time on Christian Chat."

just sayin

regretfully, I will not respond to the obvious accusation the above will engender...and so it goes
Wow. You've got to be kidding. You are defending wrong action and behavior. It's not wrong for me to stand up for what is right and say that the person in the original post is wrong for his use of words that are unloving. God's Word says I can correct wrong behavior (2 Timothy 3:16). I am talking about the topic in the fact that he used the word "troll" in his post. His wrong use of the word. If you can't see that his statement is unloving, I ask you to pray to the Lord to open your eyes (So you can see it).

Well...you are right that bullies are not nice people and that we are not Jesus, however Jesus is our example and we are to follow Him, walk as He walked. Again, I can not see any bullying in telling the truth that someone is a troll, or whatever term one finds applicable for same. Was Paul "bullying" the false teachers, some of which he named, of his day or was he interested in telling the truth about the matter? Me thinks the latter. Was he not enough "nice" to them? You might be into a risky business of letting personal preferences of "how" people are to behave (as you find it acceptable) rather than seeing the motives, which, when right at heart, surpasses the words of expression.

A mature person would say...what he said "feels" unloving vs it "is" unloving. I wonder why it gets under your skin. Seems like there is something that is within YOU that causes all of this turmoil for you. A wise man would seek that out.

The bible does not teach one can be saved by saying some kind of "sinner's prayer". Another fabrication that comes from man-made teachings.

Troll - noun: a mythical, cave-dwelling being depicted in folklore as either a giant or a dwarf, typically having a very ugly appearance.

I do not qualify as a troll, I am ugly but neither cave dwelling nor a giant or dwarf.

No. There are some things that we cannot do that Jesus did. We cannot receive worship as Jesus did. We cannot die on the cross so as to save man's sins and then rise from the grave like Jesus. We cannot be in multiple places at once in Spirit like Jesus when two are more are gathered in His name. We cannot hold all things together by the Word of our power while purging people's sins while being crucified. We cannot raise our own bodies from the dead like Christ. We cannot forgive sins like Christ can. We cannot ascend up into Heaven so as to be man's Heavenly High Priest. There are many things we cannot do that Christ has done because He is the uncreated Eternal Son of God. So it is important to know the difference that while we may strive to conform to His image, we will not actually ever be God like He has always been. We are merely choosing to walk as He walked. For we have to realize that when Christ judged at times, we learn in the Scriptures that He said such things whereby He knew their thoughts. We do not have that ability. Also, nowhere does Christ and the apostles ever encourage us to slander and speak badly of others, either.

It really needs to stop. We really need some sort of mechanism whereby certain people cannot sidetrack and post words no one even said and twist what is said and just continue arguing

We need a rest from this...it's not fair...the entire Bible part of the forum has been torn up by this nonsense

You got on with that with following Jesus. You are right though, in those senses we can't follow Jesus. I also brought up Paul though. Was he not "nice" enough when he rebuked false teachers, some of which he named? His words about the cretians? Not "nice" enough? Or was it truth (given the context). See? You might going into a erring judgment due to personal preference of what you think is niceness and not. Rather than looking to the intentions and root at heart. Rather than seeing what is truth...and not. How about you calling someone a bully? Maybe someone else will judge you as unloving for expressing yourself that way. But if what you said was true...it was still true.

seems like some people like to pop into threads like this and make themselves appear all righteous and non judgmental.

I guess they need their daily "self righteous" fix. so they can hide from their sin. and appear more holy than they really are

He showed His love for us,
in that while we were still trolls,
He died for us.

God is love. God lives in believers. Believers are known by the fruit of God living in them. He that has ears to hear, let him hear.

Sipider-man would never get into bullying others. Name calling is a part of highschool. Surely you should know this.
Tattle taling is even worse. Something which you excel at. A tattle taling troll.

It is not wrong for me to call someone a bully if that is what they are bullying other people by their hateful words and or actions. It's not wrong for me to say that a murderer is a murderer by their wrong actions. It's not wrong for me to say that a thief is a thief by their wrong and hateful actions. But when you call a person a "troll" and then make pictures of them to look like a "troll" you are telling people that they are monsters. Nowhere in the Scriptures does Jesus and the apostles ever do something like this. This is showing forth a hateful attitude rather than a Godly one that desires people to repent. Nobody is going to repent of their sins if you call them a troll. Sorry, it's just not going to happen. The word "troll" was created as an insult to that person. For there is a difference between God saying something that sums up a person and their wrong behavior and someone actually setting out to say something wrong to people that is just not right.

I've discovered that many newcomers enter the site, post a paragraph or two that is sure to stir up controversy and then they disappear. I've given up trying to figure out why. I'm sure some of them just like to see how many people will bite the bait and start arguing among themselves.

It's probably best to just put them on ignore and move on.

However, there are those new members who have legitimate questions and are seeking God's Truth. I feel bad for them because a lot of times people think they are being contentious when in fact, they are not.

Then there are live spammers and spam bots/programs (that get people to click on links in order to build mailing lists for sending unsolicited e-mail) which are almost undetectable unless you're quite familiar with how they generate conversations.

I suppose as long as there is an internet, there will be trolling and spamming. *sigh* :p
