The house was small and busy with young children running around. On the wall hung a painting. It was there just to decorate the place, make it look more homely. The mom would get her duster out give a quick dust every now and then as she did the rest of the room and when the walls needed painting she would prop it up on the floor leaning it against a wall. One day a man came to the house and noticed that the painting was a Rembrandt very rare and priceless. The painting was taken away and handled with care, only held with people wearing gloves and placed carefully behind glass to protect it.

Isn't it amazing that when something's true worth and value is recognised it is treated accordingly? How often in life is that not the same for people?

Many times Christian's do not understand their worth or value in Christ. They do not understand what it is to be a child of God, a son or daughter of the King, a co- heir with Christ and the inheritance that goes with that value. They do not live according to their value or worth, neither are they surrounded by people that also recognise their value or worth and will accept attitudes and behaviour towards them that is not fitting for a Child Of God. They accept poor behaviour towards them as though that was normal. They accept attitudes that criticize, put down, pull to pieces, and suffer all kinds of abuse without question. Sometimes thinking they actually deserve it and do not deserve better.

Understanding your worth and value in Christ, understanding your inheritance as a child of The Living God, knowing your identity in Him is key to learning how to live in this world in the standing God has given us.

I have also noticed that when Christians do start walking in that understanding they can get attacked very heavily. Usually by being told they are arrogant, stubborn, not loving or even heretical.

I watched an interesting programme last night on TV with Prince Harry and his time in Afghanistan flying helicopters. Regardless of the work he is doing, how down to earth he spoke, how he shared about his job, bottom line he is still a prince. He knows he is a prince. Everyone else knows he is a prince. There is no arrogance, stubbornness, unloving or heretical attitudes in speaking in truth of who you are in Christ. Only the enemy will try and stop you understanding your value and worth because you are made in the image of God and he KNOWS what will happen when believers finally wake up and rise up to that truth.

Value and worth is a very touchy subject for many christians and one that confuses me, scriptures tell us we are the head and not the tail, co-heirs with christ, children of God, and so on and so on...however so many Christians believe the way forward is to be poor, weak, deemed worthless and trodden on... many times I've even been criticised christians for saying "Praise God that I am handsome, for I'm made in His image and am wonderfully and fearfully made". God did not making anything ugly or worthless for He isn't ugly or worthless, but anything boosting your confidence in Christ whether about yourself or how others should treat you is quickly rebuked...

Perception of the Value of the Soul

Our ability to apprehend things by means of our senses, cognitive ability and our understanding is known as our perception. The issue I would like to consider is do we really perceive the value of our own soul?

Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Our soul is basically our self awareness, it is our consciousness, it is our life. It is what we take with us everywhere we go no matter what we are doing. It is that part of us that is separate from the machine of our body, it is that part of us that we could call "I am." Not in the sense to blaspheme and make ourselves as God (Exo 3:15, Joh 8:58), but in the sense that we are created in the image of God and have an intellect and are self aware (Gen 1:26).

Jesus made the interesting comment, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Mar 8:36). Here Jesus clearly implies that the soul of a man is more valuable than that of anything that a man could hope to gain in the world.

Jesus was in a house teaching His disciples one day and he gave the following two illustrations...

Mat 13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
Mat 13:45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
Mat 13:46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

Jesus asserted that one ought spare no expense in order to obtain entrance into the kingdom of heaven. Bearing this in mind it is no surprise then that Jesus stated the following...

Luk 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Luk 9:24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
Luk 9:25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

In Luke chapter 13 we find the following...

Luk 13:23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
Luk 13:24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

Strive in the Greek is "agōnizomai" and literally means to "agonise, struggle, contend for a prize." It is the same word Paul used when he wrote the following...

1Co 9:25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
:
The incorruptible crown is eternal life for the soul and it is indeed of very great value. One must also contend earnestly to receive it. Jesus clearly taught that eternal life was not something that was easily obtained but was actually something very difficult, it is something that comes at great price.

A very expensive price indeed. So expensive that one ought consider the price before they even begin to make such a transaction...

Luk 14:25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
Luk 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
Luk 14:27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
Luk 14:28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
Luk 14:29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
Luk 14:30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
Luk 14:31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
Luk 14:32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.
Luk 14:33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

Paul wrote that we were bought with a price and that we are also to present our bodies as a living sacrifice to God...

1Co 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Jesus taught that our souls are of great value.

Mat 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
Mat 10:30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Mat 10:31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

So did the Father...

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Life is short. Life is a vapour.

Jas 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

Will you esteem value on your soul or will you exchange it for temporal pursuits?

That is the question!

I've never felt worthy before the Lord. Even after He saved me and lifted me up I still didn't feel worthy before Him.

But that doesn't matter, how I feel. It is how the Lord feels about us. We are made children of the Most High God. The Lord values us, even when we don't value ourselves.

We see ourselves, often, as disgusting sinners before the Lord. The Lord doesn't see us like that. The Lord knows He has cleansed you from all that. He has faith in the cleansing power of His Blood even when our faith is too small to see it.

Yes and the real test comes when you go through trials like Job in the Old Testament, can anyone still praise him in the midst of adversity and to what extent? How far will you go?

Thats very true Homwardbound. I can only speak for myself on that one. Yes I did still praise Him in my Job trial BUT I did think He didn't love me. I managed to remain strong in who HE was but lost sight of who I was. I wont make that mistake again. After the trial ended (that lasted 3 years) He convicted me heavily that I doubted His love for me. I guess trials will always do what they are meant to do and refine us.

No guess about it! it does but it does hurt along the way
I do not know why I am lead to tell you and all that read this here but I am led to tell why I am dead but held alive by God
In my case, at birth Iwas not to be born, doctor said so to my Mom, She had a miscarriage, and Doc said if get pregnant again Baby won't live and neither will she. Mom got pregnant again at 43 had me and we lived, then at age 2 was lost on the shore of Lake tahoe how I made through the rough terrain noone knows but I did. Age 11 aman choked me to death and dropped meas dead blue in theface and yet I lived. Age 12 had an experience with God's delivery service where God took my body completely over and delivered me back to where I was to be where I gave my life to God and apologized to all the peope that i had mocked at age 14 my Sister died of an overdose at 18, at 15 I went off a bridge with a 30 foot drop head first in a dune buggy open top and lived along with three others in the dune buggy, and while we were all own our way down the song that was playing was Stairway to Heaven and my life did flash in frontof me.The polkice report reported that the dune buggy had to be pushed off the bridge anyone that would have been in it would nothave lived, and they found no dead bodies. At 17 my Dad died of many body diseases he was 63, at age 18 I was stabbed in the back went intomy right lung and it collapsed, was put in intensive care, God healed me from the stab wound, next all was healed noteven a sore on my back. at 21 by brother oldest one died at 33 on Campus crusade for Christ was found two miles above the sanctuary on Campus leaned against a boulder with a bible in his hand by hikers, found on Sunday. Autopsies at least 3 revealed that he died on the thursday night before that Sunday and after that there was no find for cause of death, and on the death certificate it states this no physical cause for death found. This is what realy started my life change again from when I was 12and that experience I had from my Sisters death I was confused and had many other notrocious events that tried to lead me away from belief. Welll what happened to my brother solidified my belief in Christ, and have been trusting and growing ever since. The next tihng that happens is a tire machine blows up and hits me in the face, my hands fortunately by the grace of God get in the way and remove it from my face it then goes all the way up to the top of the roof of the gasoline station and knocks out the light, I roll over off the back of the car and say thank you God and live, Told by the doctor had I not got my hands in the way I would have been decapitated, I lose all my teeth from this. Also at this time in my life I am a drunk and a druggie. Then at 27 I realised why I was a drunk and a druggy, and quit, God is the one that showed me and I lost the addiction that Satan had me under. then it seemed that the tragedies stopped, but still went through trials and God showed me to trust him.
Now the latest on 11-16-12 I got a new Job it involved moving from Las Vegas, Nv. being a storage manager there, moving unto Utah for to continue on in Storage a new company. I left Las Vegas on a monday night 11-12-13 to move here to Utah, with two 26 foot trucks along with my car on the back of one of the trucks. On the way I got a problem late on 11-13-12, I stopped urinating my penis swelled up, I had to keep moving so I did and made it to my destination where I had my stuff put in storage, knowing I am going to have to go get checked out, and at the same time keep my new job. I made it to the emergency room that friday 11-16-13 was diagnosed with an unusual foreigner ganggrene in my groin area, went into surgery right away and my penis was cut off from the doctors to stop the ganggrene from spreading. I spent three weeks and two days in the hospital and was released am disabled 100% for1 to two years. Lost the Job, applied for Social security it takes 6 months to a year to receive used all the capitol I had to get a place used what credit I had to sustain a place and food. I am trusting God to see me through I do not know how, and I am not going to waste any energy on how, for he said he will provide and I have from 21 on believed this on God has always come through for me, but as I see it the devil has attacked and tried to kill me again and again and again like in the book of Job, but I will not give up, because I believe God at God's word he will never forsake me nor leave me. According to a Doctor that has been at this for 33 years no one has ever lived from this disease except one that she knew of and I am the second one to live from this disease. I don't know the outcome that will be from all this but I do l know that God has got my back, my sides and my front, he has smothered and covered me in his grace during this tragic ordeal and it is not over yet. But I tell you the truth I have literally died and come back to life a new one, the Spirit of Adultery can never bother me again for there is nothing there to cause me to lust after the flesh any longer at all.
