What Bible does everyone own? Or what translation do you use?

Hello,

I am just curious as to what kind or translation of the Bible everyone generally uses. I would really love to learn Greek so that I could read the new testament part of the bible in the original text. We have one boring dull word for love...LOVE...while the Greeks have more.



Agape, unconditional love, God for mankind
Philia, the love that exists between close friends.
Storge, Love that grows between family members.


I believe that it would make it easier to understand if it was read in its original language. Does anyone else agree?

I use the NIV translation. I personally have a Men's Devotional Bible. Its got a devotional for every week of the year (6 devotionals a week, where sat/sun are merged together).

Primarily I use a NKJV. Also have a KJV, NIV and Holman Standard for cross referencing.

I think I have 12 Bible. That includes the Masoretic Text for Hebrew OT, the UBS Greek NT and everything from KJV to the Message. I also use Bible Gateway, putting up the maximum allowable versions and comparing them before going back to the original languages.

Right now, I am primarily reading in my French Bible. For English I mainly use ESV, because it most closely follows the tenses of the originals, although not always. It is an excellent study Bible. I also read daily in Greek, and have some devotionals I use. My next project is to start reading in my German Bible, but I am not there yet!

I use the Afrikaans OLD Translation and the KJV for English. The reason?
2 Peter 1:21. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Some versions of the Bibles leaves out the HOLY before MEN. I think that is a fatal mistake. For me the difference between as man and a HOLY MAN is MASSIVE. The one is a man, a sinner, and are unoccupied by Christ. The other is a HOLY MAN and he is HOLY because of the HOLY GHOST that MOVES THE MAN! The Holy Spirit determines the mans mind, words and actions... that is what HOLY means! God determines the mans life.

The left two links in my signature are what I mainly use. They are freebies. Why deal with translations when you can go to the source?

I own a Good News, Contemporary English Version, New International Version, New Living Translation (a Life Application Bible) and the New Revised Standard Version (a Study Bible). I grew up with the first three, acquired the NLT in my young adult years and only recently bought the NRSV (which I'm liking very much).

Here's a site that you can cross referrence with other translators perception/ paraphrase what they believed in filling in the blanks.

Lots of 'em, but I prefer the KJV and the NKJV. I also prefer paper and ink but use E-Sword also.

But seriously, I have the NIV and NKJV; soon I'm gonna have a Parallel Study Bible :D

Hello homwardbound, I had some trouble navigating the site and finding what I was looking for in regards to the Greek. There's so many links and clicks and stuff. Could you point me in the directions to click :p

Out of commonly available translations; I like to use the NASB (New American Standard Bible) that is a word for word translation based on apparently the most ancient texts available...

...but really, I like to use the transliterations of the original Hebrew/Greek... one free software site is www.scripture4all.org :)

I like the ASV and the NKJV. I study most from the NAS but I usually teach class fron the Revised Standard.

I like the new living translation myself. I own that and NIV KJV NKJV
