So this subject has come up time and again. Atheists use it as a go to issue to say how horrible "Christianity" really is. I know its a huge subject with different views. So what are your thoughts on the issue? What do you know about the Crusades? And please dont simply turn this into a Catholic bashing thread. Please discuss and stay on topic and dont derail the thread, thanks.

The Crusades were a way to deal with the take over of an unwanted nation in a wanted land. It was, at first, to stop the hordes from taking over Jerusalem, and then from taking over Europe.

As is the case when anyone thinks they're doing what God wants, the tendency is to do one better. The do one better ended up being mass murder of folks who don't believe the same as those who started it.

Did I do pretty good in skipping which religion did which? In my way of thinking, it really didn't matter which religion, since we all have a tendency to do one better than God asks, but then forgetting to do what he really asked.

Separating Romanism from the Crusades is a lot like separating politics from government. The role of the Muslims cannot be easily overlooked. Not unlike today religious wars are very distasteful matters and are never resolved just ask Israel.

Good movie to go over all this is watch Kingdom of Heaven. Really really good crusades movie, and even though it's fictional, it's pretty acurate.

A couple points to ponder....

1. Anyone can claim to do anything in the name of Christianity....the Pope on more than one occasion guaranteed the salvation of anyone who would go and fight...LIES for sure....<--- not bashing just listing facts

2. The Muslims under Saladin took Jerusalem and spared the people...When the crusaders took it back the butchered everyone to a man and set in motion the reprisals meted back by the Muslims from then on....

3. The crusades were nothing more than bloody wars over Jerusalem and the relics associated with the city.....

4. Good thing the Moors were stopped in their tracks or Europe would have been Islamic at a much earlier date than the near future under the beast and his world wide dominance!

The Crusades, the series of 10 wars between Christianity, Islam, Nations and Races, Kings and Knights. Though the Crusades is the beginning part of a few conflict points today, that era and the wars themselves also did bring the collectivism to all sides which ended the Dark Ages of feudalism for pretty much all sides in Europe, Middle East, and North Africa and even influenced the Far East indirectly.

My thoughts are do not waste time arguing this point. Show them what true Christianity is like and tell them what Christ taught us to do, as dcontroversal said, anyone can claim to do anything in name of God.

No catholic bashing here.

Ill put put it this way then. It was a religious system in Rome during the Middle Ages that did battle with Arabs to claim holy places to put its seal on near and in Jerusalem.

I dont believe the way the RCC does,I just didnt want an argument over the religion but to discuss the reasons for the Crusades.

Also the Crusaders were paid and promised land by the church of Rome, they were basiclly mercenaries for the church.

The crusades are the result of the Church divorcing Christ and committing adultery with the world, from 380ad to this day the Church remains in sin, justification for war can not be found in the New Testament.

just a thought.
