The Scriptures say Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit of God (all four gospels).

Some believe this to be the saving baptism, and others do not.

Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of
his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”
John 7:38

Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13b-14

And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment." Rev 21:6

The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say,“Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price. Rev 22:17

With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. Isa 12:3

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb Rev 22:1

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. John 7:37-39a

They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Rev 7:16-17

Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” John 4:10

What does the bible say regarding baptism

  1. Do we have to be baptized in order to be saved?
  2. Does Jesus command us to get baptized?
  3. How does one get baptized?
  4. Who can perform baptisms?
  5. What should the one baptizing you say while performing your baptism?
  6. Should someone get re baptized?
These are all excellent questions regarding this subject, however i ask that if you decide to answer one of them that you support your answer with scripture and tell me why you interpret that verse the way you do.
Thank you:)

i'll answer the first two questions nick. "NO" we do not have to be baptized in order to be saved. Groups like the oneness pentecostals, the Jw's and the Church of Christ teach that you must be baptized to be saved. And btw, the oneness teach you "MUST" speak in tongues as well.

Look at Acts 10:44-48. While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message. Vs45, And all the circumcised believers who had come with Peter were amazed, (why were they amazed?) because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out upon the Gentiles also. Vs46, For (or because) they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God, Then Peter answered, Vs47, "Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized WHO HAVE RECEIVED THE HOLY SPIRIT JUST AS WE DID, CAN HE? vS48, And he/Peter ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, Then they ask him to stay on for a few days."

So nick, notice the order of events. The Gentiles received the Holy Spirit the same way Peter and the other Jews did "BEFORE" they were water batized. It is then when Peter orders them to get water baptized. And yes, we are commanded to get water baptized but if you can't for a million and one reasons it doesn't mean your lost or unsaved. Now, someone might bring up 1 Peter 3:18-21 those verses are "NOT" teaching one must be water baptized to be saved. Hope this helps. Oh yea, they might also bring up John 3:5 but that to is often taken out of context to mean you must be water baptized.

It says baptism saves. (1Peter 3:21)
It says baptism is how we get into Christ. (Romans 6:3)
It says baptism is when God performs circumcision of the heart with Christ’s blood. (Colossians 2:11)

It says baptism is when God performs circumcision of the heart with Christ’s blood. (Colossians 2:11)
Yea onefaith, 1 Peter 3:21 does say "baptism saves?" But what does it mean according to the "CONTEXT?" At vs20 God was extremely patient and impressed with Noah's remarkable faiothfulness. Guess how long God waited onefaith before He judged men with the flood? It was 120 years and according to the verse only eight persons were delievered from the flood.

Then at vs21 Peter makes it clear that water baptism, like the Flood is only a "FIGURE" or representation just like at Hebrews 9:24 is a figure. It takes more than washing in water, i.e the putting away the filth of the flesh to cleanse us from sin. In other words, the water baptism itself "DOES NOT SAVE." The Apostle Peter is saying Jesus Christ is symbolized by the ark. Cleansing comes by the shed blood of the Son of God.

And since you brought up Romans 6:3 that says, "Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?" Or to put it another way when we get water baptized we are "IDENTIFIED" with Christ death and resurrection. So when you go back to Acts 10:47,48 you can see that Peter is making the point the Gentiles are just like him and the Jews, identified with Jesus Christ by water baptism. Does this make sense or no?

So you answered the first question using the book of acts chapter 10 verses 44-48 which basically tells us its possible to receive the holy ghost prior to baptism and since the holy ghost is a sign of salvation or being saved, this goes to say that baptism did not play a role in these disciples salvation. So essentially your argument is right you don't need to be baptized in or to be saved. However there are a few other verses that i should bring to your attention,
Mark 16:16
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Ephesians 4:5
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
Romans 6:3-4
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
Galatians 3:27
for as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

And the famous one as you mentioned John 3:5 which tells us we have to be born of the water and of the spirit or we cannot see the kingdom of god and im sure you know there is quite a lot of controversy over this verse and topic. But i think it to be true and ill tell you why with scripture to back it up, so right before Jesus tells Nicodemus you must be born of water and of the spirit Nicodemus asks How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? and Jesus responds with John 3:5 and after that John 3:6-10.
So yes i believe that one can receive the holy spirit prior to baptism which means they are saved as the holy spirit is proof of salvation. But we cant take that for granted as most people dont get the holy spirit as soon as they believe , you do well to believe even the devils believe and tremble so do they have the holy spirit no, it just depends on god if he wants to give it to you before baptism because he knows your going to go get baptized after, or like most of us we get the holy spirit during baptism, or if your in a foreign country god might just give it to you upon belief as he knows your circumstances.

Keep in mind people we as Christians need to rightly divide the word of god and not be mistaken or confused my the old covenant and the new covenant, Hosea 4:6 gods people perish for a lack of knowledge. For we must study to show our self approved unto our Lord.

Here is a brother in Christ and he talks about question 1,2 and 5. Check it out i believe you guys will find it interesting to watch and just keep in mind always look at the scripture for yourself don't take a mans word on it and if you having trouble interpreting the passage pray on it, what better way to get your answers than to ask the one who inspired every word.

Ok nick, this is where you come into the equation? What do I mean? You have to do some of your own homework and figure out how to "RECONCILE" verses that seem or appear to contradict other verses. I gave you Acts 10 which you agreed that one is saved before they are water baptized. I also "exegeted" 1 Peter 3:18-22. I also brought up John 3:5 which I did not explain.

It's now up to you to do your Bible homework and learn how to reconcile verses that appear to be contradictory. I should say that the Bible does not contradict itself. This is the way you learn nick. By asking questions and then seeking out the answsers on your own. Do not be afraid to use Lexicons, commentaries, dictionaries of other means to learn. I will tell you from experience that it really is fun because when you know your Bible you can talk to anybody. And btw, one never knows the Bible completely. We all have blind spots and issues that are hard to understand. Lastly, pray and ask God to help you.

And lastly, I have one more piece of advice for you. Have you heard the phrase, "That's your interpretation" with the unspoken assumption that your interpretation and my interpretation can be equally valid--even though they may contracdict each other. The Scriptures do not contradict themselves. When we disagree, your view may not be correct; mine may not be, both of us can be wrong, but both cannot be right at the same time in the same place. In other words, there may be a thousand applications of a given text. BUT THERE IS ONLY ONE CORRECT MEANING." And I'm not saying if your stuck don't ask questions? Ask for help.

Discuss what the bible says about baptism as well as the interpretations of this subject while giving regard to scripture.
Baptism is an Old Testament ceremonial law that extends into the New Testament. It has its roots in respect to a person having a desire to ministry as a member of the Kingdom of priest.

Somewhere the foundation was lost and has different foundation. Today called a believers baptism. In either case water baptism is not effectual but used in ceremonies as a shadow .

I get what your saying and i always bring interpretations into the conversation because there are quite a lot that's why we have so many Christian denominations because they all cant agree that certain aspects of the bible mean one thing like the oneness Pentecostals who believe you have to speak in tongues in order to be saved as you mentioned as well as many other denominations. So yes i do have my own interpretations of scripture as do you and i do take the interpretations of bible study bibles and examine them and compare them to other view points, but you just have to realize if your getting your biblical view points from some sort of study bible or something of that nature it's still a interpretation except its written or printed in a well know book website ext. Because in the ancient manuscripts that the bible originated from the authors like Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John didn't put notes at the bottom to tell you what they where saying so since they didn't do that people have to determine what it means by reading it and unfortunately people seem to be interpreting there words differently which result in Christian separation.
But i thank you for your examination of my view points i am always open to new views from other Christians. As for this moment i am just studying the essentials of the bible like what i should and should not do, what does god see as sin, can i lose my salvation, how should a true born again christian live ext.
Thanks though God Bless you in Jesus name

For every post resurrection believer:

Ephesians 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism
(NOTE: The ONE Baptism here is SPIRITUAL & preformed by Christ alone & without water)

1 Cor 12:13 For by ""one Spirit"" are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

(Translators capitalized SPIRIT, showing deity. By one Spirit "ALL" are baptized into one body = The Body of Christ) ALL are made to drink into ""one Spirit"".)

Col 2:10 You are complete in Christ, which is the head of all principality and power:
(NOTE: When you receive Christ's SPIRITUAL baptism you are complete/made perfect in/by Him)

11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the ""circumcision made without hands"" in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

(Only Christ can perform: The SPIRITUAL/circumcision/covenant of baptism. Done by His Holy Spirit without hands & without water)

Ephesians 4:30 Grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are ""sealed until the day of redemption"".
(NOTE: The Holy Spirit that Christ baptises with is a called a SEAL here, 2 Cor 1:22 & Eph 1:13)

Out side of the book of Acts there is no Scripture for water baptism in the New Testament, all the Scriptures in the epistles on baptism are the baptism of the Spirit that happens when you believe.

Romans 6:4
"We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life." Notice this baptism is that we too might walk in newness of life what is this newness of life that this baptism brings? Romans 7:6 “But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.”

The newness of the baptism is by the Spirit.
