What happened to the souls of people before Jesus was born? Also, what happens to people still in the world
who never hear about Jesus and Christianity?
[/QUOTE]The souls of everyone who died, even believing Christians are dead in the grave. You could say alseep because they will be woken up again. But they are really dead and not floating around in heaven or hanging around paradise and especially not in hell being tortured. Death holds no time in the grave. They dont even know their dead.

In the 2nd Judgement, all those who did not know the Lord will be judged according to their deeds. God looks straight into the heart and will have mercy on whomever he will. The Israelites before Christ that died were under the Law and will be judged according to the Law. So if you miss the first resurrection, you will get a chance in the 2nd resurrection, but according to your deeds. The only thing is that there are no guarantees in the 2nd resurrection.

1. Before Christ. Those who believed God were sent to paradise. Those who did not were sent to "prison" or "hades"

2. Those who have never heard the gospel would have never accepted it even if they did hear it. God is not only omniscient, But omnipresent. We are told that it is the HS who judges the world (this means everyone) of sin righteousness and judgment. And it is his power through this to convict all men and bring them to Christ. Romans 1 Paul tells us no person will have an excuse when they stand before God. this includes never hearing the gospel. For if they would have truly desired salvation and to Know God. God would have sent the Gospel to them. I know many a missionary who went to a people who never heard of Christ. who stated they were seeking him and praying fro God to send them truth. If someone would be positive to the gospel. God will not hesitate to overturn mountains to make sure that person gets the gospel. He is already convicting them through the HS. He knows their hearts. If he knows they would never accept no matter what. He is not obligated to do anything, they are already judged as paul says in romans 1
Would it not follow Gods omnipresence - that those wouldn`t have accepted the gospel `already` haven`t accepted it? And that our concept of how time flows is not how God`s time flows(or doesn`t flow). Those of us born in gospel times have already had some degree of salvation and those who follow us a higher degree?

The Jews that were not "cut off" from the law and their people through one reason or another went to the side of Sheol (Hell, not Lake of Fire) called Abraham's Bosom were they were comforted, also, rigtheous Gentiles.

Those in so-called Abraham's Bosom was refer to by Jesus as sleeping (the young girl and Lazarsus) and could be called back to life by the Lord and his Disciples.

What happened to the souls of people before Jesus was born? Those that trusted God and believed His promise of the Savior were saved. Those that did not, were/are not.

Also, what happens to people still in the world who never hear about Jesus and Christianity? All we know is that Scripture tells us that in order to be saved, one must be "born again", John 3.

So...if one is not born again, one is not saved and their final destination is hell.

john 3:4

[SUP]4 [/SUP]Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” [SUP]5 [/SUP]Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. [SUP]6 [/SUP]That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.[SUP][c][/SUP] [SUP]7 [/SUP]Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You[SUP][d][/SUP] must be born again.’ [SUP]8 [/SUP]The wind[SUP][e][/SUP] blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Jesus describes in detail what born again means, is seems to be a great deal more than someone who has "heard" of Jesus

and what of all the ones that practice and embrace what Jesus mentioned above, yet they never have heard of Jesus?
and lets not forget the samertan that asked Jesus the same question, Jesus referred him to the 2 commandments, love your heavenly Father, love your fellow man.

douay ryhms version

Revelation: 6. 9. And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held. 10. And they cried with a loud voice, saying: How long, O Lord (holy and true) dost thou not judge and revenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? 11. And white robes were given to every one of them one; and it was said to them, that they should rest for a little time, till their fellow servants, and their brethren, who are to be slain, even as they, should be filled up.
