"Grace is everything Jesus. Grace lives because He does, works because He works, and matters because He matters. He placed a term limit on sin and danced a victory jig in a graveyard. To be saved by grace is to be saved by Him— not by an idea, doctrine, creed, or church membership, but by Jesus Himself, who will sweep into heaven anyone who so much as gives Him the nod. Not in response to a finger snap, religious chant, or a secret handshake. Grace won’t be stage-managed." - Max Lucado

Many overlook the fact that grace is also a position....literally a position of favor that is found in Christ....all based upon faith.

In the GRACE you are
, having been saved out of faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God and not of works lest any man should boast.

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God.

A position of favor based upon faith that saves and justifies.....unearned, undeserved and a gift

I like what Max wrote. Thanks.

We so often get things backwards and try to achieve what Christ has already provided for us by grace through faith in His work alone. Religion often gets the grace of Christ and the gospel backwards.

The true Christian life is Christ ( be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus ) in us being expressed through us. It is not trying to live the Christian life by living the teachings of the bible.

Therefore we approach the bible as His letter to us revealing Himself to us, so that we know how He will live the Christ-life through us.

We particapte in this with Him for it is God who is at work in us both to will and to do His good pleasure. Phil. 2:13

The renewing of the mind is crucial to walking in the grace of God that is available to "all the world". God "so loved the world" that He gave His Son.

Not interested. Back to the OP....

“This grace of God is a very great, strong, mighty and active thing. It does not lie asleep in the soul. Grace hears, leads, drives, draws, changes, works all in man, and lets itself be distinctly felt and experienced. It is hidden, but its works are evident.” ― Martin Luther

These days? THIS "Grace" is seen more as "anti-social" behavior! Sometimes defined by "head shrinks", as mildly, to moderatly "Autistic". Or, even worse, as slightly to a more noticably emotional retardation. Like trying to successfully integrate, Faith, with Empiricism! Like shaking up a jar of oil mixed with water. You end up with a zillion little bubbles floating around in the jar, with one saying "It is, what it is" And the other one saying "THIS, is what its become?" In this irreconcilable contrast of instability called "life in the belly of the beast". Totally indegestable, by Grace!

Grace was taught to me as an unmerited favor. But then I read this, Christianity Rediscovered: "Grace is Unmerited Favor" - This Common Definition is Wrong

What do you guys say about this?
Nope.. i disagree totally with the linked site..

grace is unmerited favour and salvation through the atonement of the LORD Jesus Christ can only be a gift from God and cannot be merited by any faulty carnal human being..

I would flee from any works salvation mindset that promotes human merit as a way to obtain eternal salvation.. Embracing such a doctrine is the way to eternal damnation. i strongly encourage people to reject the dogma of man merited salvation..

I think that the gospel of the grace of Christ has been so watered down with law and condemnation that the "message" given out "as the gospel" does not have the power in it for real change. We can get born-again from it however which is wonderful and the most important aspect of it because it is our entrance into this grace in which we stand..

The gospel is about an exchanged life not merely a behavior modification program for the flesh to pretty it up. If we preached the real gospel then in "it" people will find real salvation for all areas of their lives while living on this earth.

A lot of the exhortations by Paul to live right were always based on him first telling them what the real gospel is.

These exhortations are descriptive of the fruit of an exchanged life and what the true Christian life looks like when we are walking by the Spirit and not according to the flesh.

Works-based salvationists make these exhortations a requirement in order to be saved which is the complete opposite of the gospel message in Christ.

Acceptance grace in that we are completely forgiven, deeply loved as a child of God and forever sealed in Him - knowing this will release the 2nd aspect of grace - empowering grace to go and sin no more. It's a by-product of our new life in Christ.

We really need to be cemented in the 1st aspect of acceptance grace - then empowering grace will be manifested as a fruit of His life being lived in and through us.

We can grow in Grace --- 2 Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Grace and peace is multiplied unto us --- 2 Peter 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord

Grace is only found in Christ.

Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. It is what is Christ that makes us strong. Trying to separate grace from Christ is like trying to separate the wet from water.

2 Timothy 2:1 (NASB)
[SUP]1 [/SUP]
You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

We are to fix our hope completely on the grace that comes to us at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 1:13
[SUP]13 [/SUP] Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace being brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

God and the word of His grace is what builds us up and gives us the inheritance that is ours in Christ because we are already "set apart" for it - those who are sanctified.

( those who are sanctified - this is in the perfect tense which is an event in the past which is in a completed state and it remains that way continuously in the present. It is also in passive voice which means that it was something done to you - we don't do it to ourselves )

Acts 20:32 (NASB)
[SUP]32 [/SUP] "And now I commend you
to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

We have access into the grace wherein we stand through our Lord Jesus Christ ---

Romans 5:1-2 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

OT grace definition is where we find unmerited favor. When you look at the Hebrew root of the word for grace...it is defined as "when one who is superior, bends in kindness and favor to one inferior".

This is the atoning blood sacrifice of Jesus.

NT grace is the baptism of Holy Spirit and His works in our life. Endued with power. Grace. Unmerited enduement of Gods character and power in us.

Yes, and we can choose to speak words which minister grace unto the hearers (Eph 4:29).
Amen...and not speaking these words of grace is what grieves the Holy Spirit - after all He is the Spirit of grace.

Ephesians 4:29-31 (NASB)
[SUP]29 [/SUP] Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.

[SUP]30[/SUP] Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

[SUP]31 [/SUP] Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.
