What is your Goliath

Being afraid is the same as being fearful, but what is fear? The dictionary states that it is, “An unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.”
To me, that definition is hectic, fear Is hectic, it makes life scary. A question I, myself, have struggled with is how do we even begin to overcome our fears, whether they are big or small, how do we defeat them. In the Bible fear is defeated numerous amounts of times, yet there is one story that gets to me every single time and that’s the story of David and Goliath. If you don’t know the story, here’s a little summary:
There were the philistines and the Israelites. The philistines had been challenging the Israelites to war and a philistine giant over 9 feet tall with full armor (Goliath) came out each day for forty days, mocking and challenging the Israelites to fight. The king of Israel and the whole army were fearful of Goliath. There was a teenage boy named David who had noticed the Giant shouting his daily defiance and saw the terror amongst the Israel army. David volunteered to fight Goliath, wearing only his simple tunic, carrying his shepherds staff, slingshot and a pouch full of stones, David approached Goliath. The Giant cursed at him, hurling threats and insults. After David had said that, “it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands,” Goliath went in for the kill and David reached for one of his stones and flung it at Goliath’s head. Finding a hole in the armor, the stone sank into the giants forehead and he fell face down into the ground.

This story can be directed onto our lives if we’re going through ‘giant’ problems, or facing scary situations we have to try get through.
What is your Goliath?
Are you going to be as courageous as David?
Or are you going to hide in Terror like the Israelites?

In this story David has a choice, he didn’t have to fight the Giant, he could’ve backed away with all the other Israelites, but would anything have ever changed if he did? If David didn’t make the choice to fight that battle, the Giant would still be there throwing threats and insults at the Israelites. Whatever battle you’re facing, whether it seems giant or little, whatever is making you fearful, make your choice to fight against it, or to back away with fear and terror, but then live with the consequences.
How do we possibly begin to face the giant in our lives?
Firstly, David looked at Goliath from Gods point of view, to David Goliath was merely a mortal man defying an all-powerful God. So when we look at giant problems from Gods perspective, we realize that God will fight for us and with us. I have always learnt that my God is bigger than the battle, and until i begin to look at that, it will never become reality for me, so begin to look at bad situations with that mind set and they will honestly start to appear so little, as they already are. We also begin to see more clearly and fight more effectively. Another thing that David chose to do was reject the kings armor as he was unfamiliar with it, he felt comfortable with his simple slingshot, a weapon he was most skilled at using. God has given us all unique talents, so you don’t have to wear some special armor or go into the battle fully prepared, God will use you along with your skills and talents to defeat your giant.
Another thing which is quite noticeable in the story of David and Goliath is the fact that Goliath still threw insults and threats upon David, yet those words meant nothing to David, they didn’t stop him from doing what he had set out to do, he simply held onto Gods word and Gods truths about him and fought his battle. The threats you’ll be given are things like, “you’re never going to win!” “Stop trying!” “You’re too weak!” And those are all lies. You have to block them off. Look to God in these times and ask him to prove those lies wrong.

One thing that caught my attention in this story was when David says,”for the battle is the Lord’s.” He shows great knowledge in knowing that God is greater than this Giant, he is leading this battle, whatever happens, will benefit The Lord. And that he’s not fighting this battle alone, God is beside him, God is fighting right beside him. So then it’s safe to say that whatever you are facing, whatever battle you are about to fight or are in the middle of fighting, just know that God is there with you every step of the way and if you just let him, he will guide you. In the bible somewhere it also states that the WHOLE OF HEAVEN IS BACKING YOU. My perspective of heaven is that it’s pretty darn huge, so now, what are you afraid of if you have a huge, powerful army of God backing you up, is that not enough to make you feel encouraged?

Do you want to get rid of your fears or be terrorized by them the rest of your life?
Are you David or are you the fearful Israelites?
What is your Goliath?
You have your weapons
Now fight.

David put 5 stones in his bag, 1 for Goliath, and the other 4 was in case Goliaths 4 brothers decide to jump in, but they ran.

I wasn't meaning in the bible, I meant in my post. The reason why I never put it in there though was because it was made to draw attention to my age group whom I know might have gotten a little bored of the full story, hence the word, "summary":)

I really appreciated that point. :)

Well done, little one.
(and we are all of us God's little ones) :)

The Jews have a legend that the five turned into one big one in David's bag. The point being, since there were five Lord's of the Philistines who Goliath represented, and four brothers, as Bro. Don pointed out, and also people at that time thought there were five basic elements, that God gives you everything you need for however big the battle is. All you need is the confidence in Him, and the common sense to pick it up when He gives it to you.
