That is the golden rule, the rule little ones often have difficulty with. lol

Basically we should be just and decent to people just as we would like to be treated.

Matthew 5:17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
Matthew 22:40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
Luke 6:31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.
Romans 13:8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.
Romans 13:10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Galatians 5:14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."
James 2:8 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, "Love your neighbor as yourself," you are doing right.

[h=3]Matthew 7:12[/h]New International Version (NIV)

12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Matthew 5
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Matthew 22

34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Matthew 7:12

King James Version (KJV)

[SUP]12 [/SUP]Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
This is the definition of justice. Ask yourself when you are getting ready to do something that involves someone else: 'Would I like it if someone did this to me?' If yes, then do it. If not, then it would be unjust for you to do it to someone else.

Matthew 7:12

What are my thoughts?

First I think its king james which is not the language I speak. I translate it in my head because I know the verse. "[SUP] [/SUP]So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." and it reminds me of other verses about what fulfills the law. Reply 3 covers those pretty well. This makes me think about loving others. IT reminds me something God taught me many years ago. I can not love anyone the way I want to. There came a point in my life when I was praying for a person whom I desired to love just as God loves me. I realized how inadequate I am for this task. I do have complete confidence in myself. I am confident that in any circumstance I will sin and fall short of the Glory of God. My confidence in myself is that I am wicked and incapable of doing even the smallest thing right. I desire to do only good. This means my dependence and confidence have to be completely on God. these are my thoughts about this verse.

Just as an after thought, I have some thoughts about this post also. I like it. No one can make a wrong response. After all, you didn't ask what does it mean; but what do we think. Good post. Thanks.

may God's grace and peace be with you all.

hello Homwardbound

I think it is talking about love, and i don't think a person would or could obey the two commandments that JESUS told us to keep unless they were reborn in the spirit.

unless the LORD builds the house, the laborers work in vain.

what is flesh is flesh
what is spirit is spirit.

the words JESUS spoke were spirit and life.

I don't desire men to do anything for me therefore I will do nothing for them.

Its more than just how we are to treat others as we would want to be treated, but even treating others as we would want, when they treat us baddly, for it is this love we are called to, not for self, but forsaking self, loving as we would ask to be loved.

God bless

I think what Jesus is really saying is, we should not do harm to others, as we would not want harm done unto us. Furthermore, if we are followers of Christ, we should remember the two most important commandments:

(1) "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind" - (Luke 10:27, New International Version, 2011).

(2) "Love your neighbor as yourself" (Luke 10:27).

If we love God with all of our hearts, I think it is then impossible for us not to love our neighbors also, as Christ first loved us. "We love because He first loved us" (1 John 4:19).

Grace and Peace!

Would that be by force or willingly, is there a differance? by force is having to, and thus you don't have free will do you?
If willing to even if you don't like it, you do as a response in thanking God for loving you inspite of whatever you have ever done or could ever do. yes?
Can we see this and maybe take away the pain and hurt as I think is God's purpose for us all by the cross, just food for thought
If I am completely forgiven how can I not forgive?

How would we do that in not being a command? How would one do this willingly, in other words without the stress of I have to or else

I posted it this way for us to each personally think about what God means to us? Why God said these things through Christ and then went to the cross, when we could just practice to love in and of ourselves.
As you said it makes me think of how incapable "I" am at doing this of myself especially to those that do not love me back or see things as I might. To love all no matter what, whether they do right or wrong I found impossible without God's Spirit living in me by the resurrected Christ and me listerniing and doing as Abraham did, Noah did, Saulwhobecame Paul did.
I could not have the Love of 1 cor 13:4-13 without asking God to raise me up from my dead self in the Spirit of God thorugh Christ back at the cross
Thanks joey,I think you are ready and know it is all God and none of us, being willing for God to spread this love of God throughout our bodies daily as we daily ask, knowing it will be done in us as it is done in Christ

so instead of being a work, this would be a response to God thanking god for the love he has poured out onto us all through
Christ?

yes for me this is how I found it possible to love all unconditional, because I first had to see how much God loves me so yes as said in scripture we love because God first loved us, shown by the cross
Thanks

thank you to all here for the encouragement of God loving us 100%, so that we respond to God as Isee us all doing in thanks and praises to God for this miraculous gift of salvation, We are forgiven so lets respond to God personally saying thanks for this and tell others
2 Corinthians 5:18And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

Romans 12:18

King James Version (KJV)

18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

It's just not possible to get along with everyone .

Not sure how to respond to the other stuff .
