Isa 28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
Isa 28:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
Isa 28:12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Col 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Joh 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
Joh 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

2Pe 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Rev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

The physical sabbath to celebrate the creation of the physical earth, and a spiritual sabbath by the spirit to celebrate the creation of the spiritual earth.

It would make sense that since it is a spiritual sabbath,a spiritual rest,by the Spirit, and Jesus went to prepare a place for the saints that is the new earth, and heaven, and Jesus resurrected on the first day,Sunday, that the day the Church would come together would be Sunday, although is a spiritual sabbath by the Spirit,so the saints can come together every day.

Act 2:46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
Act 2:47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

What makes a true Christian?
Recognizing that there is no good and hope in me. That I am unable to serve you Father God in my own strength and power. But today, I place my Faith and maintain it in Your Beloved Son Jesus (who He is), and the Cross of Calvary where the victory was won (and what He has done). And I receive all the benefits of the Resurrection Life (Psalm 103:2). Amen.

A simplistic answer is a person who follows Jesus.

What seems to me to be a good working definition is:

A person who believes that the Bible is the absolute standard of truth and that anything that contradicts it is a lie or an error.

For clarification: 'believes' signifies more than mental assent it includes a lifestyle response.

I am not talking about minutia like people's age or genealogies. I am talking about principles.

We can't please God through our own efforts. God cares as much about our showing kindness and compassion ane encouragement to others as he does about what we believe about Him. God is not pleased with our culture's attitude toward independence; but wants us to believe and acknowledge total dependence on Him. God does not want us harshly holding each other to a set of rules but wants us to appreciate what He has done for us enough to be merciful and gracious with others.

some wonderful testimonies and posts, TY all...

we understand what you are saying, 7, but, for myself, as a teen, I had a generic-conversion',
after all, that's what most of our church was doing, and I sure didn't want to be left out,
plus, the big-city-visiting 'evangelist', fleeced just about the whole congregation...
so yes, I did consider myself, a 'real' Christian for way to many years, baptism and all...

JAMES 1:27.
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows
in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

since '82', a lot spots' have faded from both our lives, with more Love and gratitude than I
could ever write down on the page of this thread, and of course, we're not done yet,
still got some refining that has to happen, along and along...

we both kneel and give thanks to the Highest Ranked, God be thanked, God be praised,
we are raised and fed - we were once dead when we spoke, but now all of our Hope is
in our Saviour, Who gave us a two-edged sword so that we may fight in The Spirit.
sear it to our souls and brains He did, and now He bides us what we must do, and so,
we will do what we must, for we only trust in our Lord and Master...

What makes a true Christian?
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
(Joh 1:12-13)

One must be born again.

Sounds familiar...
I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ,my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Ghost has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith; ...Martin Luther

This is the heart of the matter. A true Christian is a child of God who walks in the Spirit by faith. The just [justified ones] shall live by faith.

I remember questioning what a Christian was when age 7. At the church I was born and raised in, Christian females had long hair, never wore slacks, and didn't watch TV. Then I learned, to my shock, that my little friend's family (myfriend who
wore pedal-pushers(!), who cut her hair
(!), whose family had a TV -- shockingly, right in their family room!! -- thought they were Christians, too! I realized right then that I had more to learn about who were and who were not Christians.

I've never been fully satisfied with any answer to this conundrum, because in time, I was told that "Christian" defined people born in the USA, people who go to church once or twice a year, R. Catholics only, people who sin daily in word thought and deed, people who never sin, etc. The term, now as when I was a child, remains very messy.
Oh, what a wonderful opportunity! And I'm not referring to an opportunity for me, but for you... although you may currently see it as a liability rather than an asset. So I'll explain.

Too many people settle for church-given answers. You however, like Saul/Paul before his conversion, have gotten "burned" by trusting church-given doctrine...and desire to avoid a repeat. There's only ONE way to do that. You're going to have to get ahold of God directly.

It will take some effort/seeking on your part to find God for yourself to get him to directly answer you, but when you figure out how it works you'll realize that you now have the greatest source of truth available as close as your asking.

Also you will face much opposition to your quest IF you ask people who themselves don't know how to get ahold of God themselves... because they will tell you things like "since we have the bible, God doesn't do that". I'd say that is bad doctrine, but you'll have to actually get God to answer you before you'll actually know even THAT.

Also, that particular lesson (how can I get answers from God directly) CANNOT be replaced simply by being given an answer by man... even the correct answer. Because if you don't know how to take something to God and have him tell you whether you, or they, or me, or someone else is actually giving you the truth (correct understanding)...you'll still just be "the blind" being led by someone else who also could be blind.

Again, it is indeed truly worth the effort and applicable to everything in your life once you know how it works. Also God will start helping you get there once you determine to start the journey..and it's actually easy to do once you know how.

If you particularly want to know what I understand about salvation in Jesus, please ask as I don't feel inclined to post it in the thread, yet, because I break it down into the steps...and that is contrary to some common doctrines. :)

Love in Jesus,

What makes a true Christian?
Jesus himself gives you your answer...

23 But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship
the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
John 4:

so if you cannot or will not do this then one is not a true Christian.

compare to the proof required by Jesus as to this..
"these signs shall follow them that believe..."
in Mark 16:15-18

always, always think and put 'others' before yourself! it's really a no-brainer,
if you have been 'touched by the Heart of God'...

Should not the 'standard be that of God and Christ ? nobody is biblically advised to 'judge others by their own understanding !
So are you ignoring the warning by Yashua/Jesus to 'beware of being 'deceived by 'false christs - of whom there will be MANY ? This itself tells us there will be true/real Christians and also false/decieved christians. This does require some judgement yes - but definitely not to condemn which is a different judgement and is not our place to make.

What makes a true christian?

If you agree with me in everything, you are a true christian.

If you disagree with me, well something is off!

That sums it up!

True Christian? IMHO one is either a Christian or not.

A Christian is a follower of Christ

The Lord. He put the Christ in Christian... literally.
And the Christians, they put the 'ian' onto Christ. lol

and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught a great many people. And in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians.

Christian is not just a 'label', it is a real 'brand-new-life style, a conformable change/action,
in one's reason for living'...
