I am better than a dead person because I am living and still breathing and I still have hope in Jesus. I can still love my family and spend time with them and still chat on CC and figure out who I am better than.....oh and I like cats so I am better at being a cat person than a dog person.....lol
Reminds me of Ecclesiastes 9:4-6.

"For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun."

But just because I have bible verses for your reply and you don't doesn't mean I am better than you. Okay. Don't think that way.

I'm better than I was before I had Jesus!
MarcR,
You became a Christian before me, so you knew Jesus first. So does that make you better than me or me better than you?

We're both with the Lord. Kinda like the men who were hired. Some hired in the early morning. Some in the midday. Then others hired late in the day. All hired workers were paid the same wages.

Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus
came into the world to save sinners--of whom I am the worst.

"If you talked me the way I talk to myself... I would have to kill you."

I used to hear that in the 12 step rooms (on the subject of self love).

Magenta, you! You can't be worse than Paul. He's the one who persecuted Christians! I'll check if you're on my friends list. I'm surprised.

Your response is actually excellent. And if the Lord Jesus can forgive Paul, He can forgive everyone of us. And does.

I don't know that I am better now. Often, I feel just as bad and even seemingly worse, because I have a new standard that I fairly consistently fail to live up to in Jesus. Since He commanded us to love others as we love ourselves, it becomes glaringly obvious that we are not very good at the latter which would explain why we fail so miserably at the former. Only love of God can overcome that dilemma...
I think that is commendable. It is good for all of us to recognize how much we fall short of God's ideal for us.

However, IMO, you are now a better person. If recognizing your own shortcomings were all you had to show for Jesus' involvement in your life, that would still be an improvement over failing to recognize them. I'm sure that is NOT all you have to show for Jesus' involvement in your life. I didn't know anything about you before you came to Salvation; but I believe that your present attitudes to other people and their failings reflects His influence more than you care to boast about.

I don't feel inclined to compare myself with anyone but me, usually.

Sometimes when caught up in an argument with someone who doesn't listen well, I make comparisons; but I usually regret them.

JAMES 3:17.

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated,
full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

in our opinion, if we can at least try to meet these requirements out of our Love for our Father,
chances are pretty good, that we will hear the words, 'Well done thou good and faithful servant,
enter thou into the Joy of My Kingdom'.

That is very kind of you to say... and though it may be true that my awareness of my shortcomings now does very much inform me of my spiritual poverty, which in turn causes me to turn ever increasingly toward Him, I am still left with the awareness, in my own limited way, of how far short I fall of the standard Jesus set for us. Yes it is true I no longer do some of the things that were causing me pain, and that has made a huge difference in my life. However, in terms of my heart, which is what Jesus/God looks upon, there is room for much growth. If we could each consistently show to others even a small percentage more of the love Christ has shown to us, the world we live in would probably look and feel much different, and be a far better place for it.

Is it not true that you appreciate what Jesus has done for you? Doesn't that appreciation cause you to be more concerned about how what you do reflects on Him? Don't you more and more adopt His revealed attitudes and values as revealed in Scripture?

Yes, I am grateful for what He has done. And yes, I do find myself not saying things because it would not reflect well on my Christianity, or on Jesus Himself, and I have at the same time a desire to testify to "lost" people in a way that encourages them in whatever way they need encouragement, to not give up if they are seeking, to shout to the world as it were that God loves them, and has made a way for us to be reconciled to Him... that Jesus has died for us and paid the sin debt for the world. At the same time I am aware that people are not open to this message, but I should not make that assumption going in... really this becoming a Christian was the biggest change in my life, and turned my world completely upside down, which it obviously needed (lol). I love reading the encouraging messages of others, even when they are not directed toward me; they feed my spirit. I am uplifted by the Word and sustained in ways I could never have imagined, and hope to be such an inspiration and encouragement to others. Just talking about it puts me in a frame of mind that humbles me, that I would desire to be in more often. Thank you for giving me that opportunity! :)

Sounds like you are misconstruing the duty of a believer to be vigilant about watching for heresies that creep in to the body of Christ almost unnoticed by most, with one who puts himself up and above others which is exactly the deeds of the Nicolaitans.
We are not asked to try to keep purity of doctrine, we are commanded to do so. The biggest problem in Christendom is self exaltation and control.
So we are to, by the word of God, expose and cast down every imagination and every high thing(exalted mentality), and bring all things into the conformity of His word. Just what you are saying, the 'I'm better than you' attitude must be dealt with and corrected.
Does that mean the member that has learned the hard knocks of a humble and lonely walk is 'BETTER' than the one that has refused that trail of tears? I don't like the word 'better'. I'd say the word 'correct' would fit here.

Brother Pottersclay,

please tell us that you would never take it to heart what their opinions of you are?

I don't know if this would mean anything to you, dear Brother, but you are dearly
loved by both of us......
