Ultimately, God decided to have the Israelites roam the wilderness for another 39 years, not the Israelites. What you call rubbish? I call trusting God too little.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Rom. 8:28
yes

They roamed the wilderness because of their complaining and not believing God

that is why they roamed for another 40 years

people still suffer the same today and then turn around and say it was God's will

it isn't

and that verse from Romans is not about suffering the consequences for our own actions

It is a mistaken belief to think it was God's will for the Israelites to wander in the wilderness for 40 years. That would make God a liar as He told them to go into the land He had promised them. The people did not believe God and drew back in fear and so God let them have their way.

There are several sites I like to go to for biblical explanations of questions and Got Questions is one, CARM is another

but here is a good explanation from Got Questions

Wilderness wandering” refers to the plight of the Israelites due to their disobedience and unbelief. Nearly 3,500 years ago, the Lord delivered His people from Egyptian bondage as described in Exodus, chapters 1–12. They were to take possession of the land God had promised their forefathers, a land “flowing with milk and honey” (Exodus 3:8). Prior to entry, however, they became convinced they could not oust the current inhabitants of the land, even though God told them they could. Their lack of belief in God’s word and promises brought forth the wrath of God. He cursed them with forty years of wilderness wandering until the unbelieving generation died off, never stepping foot in the Promised Land.

We are responsible for our response to God and God will allow us to suffer the consequences of disobedience as illustrated by the plight of the Israelites.

I don't think Martin Luther was talking about the Israelites in the desert.

Really. Not at all.

This may be your personal understanding, but it is not in agreement with the fact that God was so angry with his own people He turned them OUT and AWAY from what He had said He would give to them.

We respond pretty much the same way. We can be proactive in our lives or we can just let things happen and then blame God or say it was His will.

Don't confuse that with working for salvation. There is only one way to be saved and Jesus has completed the work. We don't work for or earn salvation but how we live our lives is a testament, or not, of the power of God's spirit in our lives.

I am not talking about salvation and Martin Luther was not talking about the Israelites.

God did that because they failed to believe, They did nothing but complain. His will was that they go in, Only two trusted God, the others got scared saying the giants would kill them, they had no faith in God.

Rom 8 does not speak of them, they did not love God, so thats why nothing good happened to them, the 2 who believed, They had something good. even after the wilderness.. They got to go in and watch God work.

Yes, the requirement was for them to believe. I was surprised to find out that God did not punish them for their complaining until later. All they ever did eventually after the newness wore off of a blessing was complain when something went wrong. But even in that, God always made a way for them. Even when God poured manna from heaven they soon complained about that too. Yet God didn't still zap them for their complaining.

It all changed when they told God they could do allllll He asked and commanded. They boasted in themselves and the law came in and their failed works condemned and cursed them via the law. God wants to deal with man according to grace but man won't believe God's love sent Jesus. So we humans want to work for what God only gives through Jesus and His grace and truth.

I've seen it to be true., when we work, God rests. When we rest, God works.

It's a serious thing to get God's will mixed up with our ideas of God's will. And worse, the tricky enemy of our souls who wants us to believe God is not for us. When sickness and death come our way we have to know it is not from God. Jesus defeated death with all it's associated horrors. He did this for us. He is our Savior our personal Savior, He is our personal Provider. He is the Giver, our personal Giver. What a lie of the devil to convince the believer that God is the bringer of sickness, disease, distortion, confusion, fear, and ultimately death!!!!

He has not given us the spirit of fear but of power and love and a sound mind. We see those things by faith as we go along in life. But they are already ours.

But if a Christian just allows those bad things in life to flow into them believing it's from God, they will suffer because they have not attributed properly what is of God. They will receive those things as if God gave them., they will not fight against those things since they believe God is giving those things to him or her.

The good fight of faith is knowing Him and the power of His resurrection. We have the Book and the promises. It's never to late to learn truth. It's never too late to "change our minds" in repentance and believe differently then we have about God all our lives. God is not the Author of confusion. He is not saying I love you so here is cancer to teach you a lesson.

Here is divorce so you can learn what it means to suffer devastation and loss of family relationships. satan is the destroyer of the covenant of marriage and the destroyer of family. God isn't saying.. Here is blindness and death for you and poverty so you can better be a servant. No those things are not from God. Jesus came to save us from sin and the effects of sin. But the 1st step to escaping that is believing in Jesus. He is the remedy.

He first saves our souls and gives us eternal life and a position in His family as sons. We have been given such great and precious promises. We will spend the rest of our lives fighting the GOOD fight of faith. Believing first than seeing the hand of God in our lives through the Holy Spirit as He teaches us through the Word.

This is about turning away from the things we see and feel with our senses and instead believing the promises that are ours as sons.

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.
[h=1]Hebrews 11:1Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)[/h] 11 Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, [SUP][a][/SUP]the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].

As best as I can tell, we believers go through things and we are devastated. We are stuck and we can't get out right away. So instead of realizing this is part of the GOOD fight of faith., we humanly reason out that this stuff has to be coming from God.

The Bible says the devil comes to steal the Word that was planted in our hearts. We see the effects of sin in the world and in our lives and it seems to overtake all things. But sin cannot overtake us because Jesus has already defeated sin for us. But the devil is right there and it's his mission to steal the Word that was implanted in our hearts.

We do suffer symptoms of sin yes. We do suffer for sure. But we have been instructed to persevere in the Word. It's the Word that will save us from those effects of sin. Sometimes it happens right away and completely. Other times it happens some 10 fold, some 50 fold some 90 fold. It's a progression in learning. I don't know why we can't just download His Word the first time we read or hear it.

But God has worked it out that it takes hearing and hearing and hearing to grow in faith. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. So I have to work with God in this to get the victory that has already been bought and paid for. Growing in faith., growing in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

And it's not a toiling miserable process either. Religion say it is. But when the Holy Spirit is involved He gives us RIVERS OF LIVING WATER flowing in and through our inner being. That is the ministry of the Holy Spirit to us as we fight the GOOD fight of faith. He's essential to our victory. But I've also found that not many believers know the ministry of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Myself included.

I never knew how vital He is to the daily process of not being weary in well doing. Now I do and will share it as much as possible here.

Before I head out the door to begin the day., I want to address a question we have all asked. And we even sort of spit it out in annoyance and disgust in the face of those who attest to the healing power of God.

What about those innocent babies?! What about good Christians who have followed God for years and done His will? How can they have cancer and suffer the way they do if God heals today????????
And what about the tribulations we are promised?

None of us know the hearts of other people. We don't know the faith walk of other Christians. We don't know how much of the Word has been planted in their hearts and stolen., nor do we know what they believe about the Word. We don't know the road of faith they are on and at what junction of the road they are on in their journey with the Holy Spirit.

We do know sin is horrible. So horrible it took the Son of God Himself to defeat it. Sin kills innocent babies causing them to suffer and die. Sin causes sickness and death and confusion. Sin causes all kinds of evil in ways many of us can't even fathom.

There are human servants of the devil living on earth who kill people and chop off their heads. Who lie and steal and kill whole cities. They have the hate of satan himself working in them. he hates us humans made in the image of God.

These are the horrible results of sin in the world. Even the planet groans to be delivered. Sin had to be defeated and the good news is it has.

But the GOOD fight of faith is what we are called to as the salt of the earth. We are called to speak forward the things that ARE true in spite of the lack of physical evidence. The sad part is many of us have been defeated in our lives and can't call forth those things because we don't believe them. How can we if we don't believe and see??

The Holy Spirit will show us and teach us how. I'm really sorry we can't down load the Bible into our minds and hearts. I know that the enemy is ever ready to steal it from us so if we don't keep putting it in, we will grow weak. It's the bread of life for a reason.

And the tribulations we suffer are the GOOD fight of faith. The battle to believe in spite of ALL odds. In spite of seeing the innocent babies suffering. Or the Christian who we see has been faithful all their lives. How to recon that in our minds? We believe God anyway IN Christ. This is a fight and a tribulation before the victory is had in our minds and hearts. Then we move on and see yet another GOOD fight to win.

The only thing that matters is how God sees us. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks....Long as we got King Jesus we don't need nobody else....
