sometimes, if you copy a section of posts like this, and paste them into a search engine, you find that people are posting exactly the same diatribes on many sites, and on their own blogs and webpages too. :p

it's like, well, they have a message they feel like they need to get out to as many places as they can, i guess (i dunno; i don't do this).

it's an easy trap for me to be judgmental and think they are just looking for kudos and being pretentious. i know if i take that attitude i'm making myself a teacher instead of a student, and i'm not going to gain anything from reading what they say that way.

there are many members here who are preachers themselves. maybe they are just sharing their sermon outlines; it's what is natural for them because this is the way they preach every week. maybe too, there are people who feel called to preach but don't have a congregation. some too just 'love to have the preeminence' and are just doing what think will make them appear scholarly and wise. i dunno how to tell the difference by appearance; i've got to read for myself and figure out what they have to say.
sometimes the format or writing style gives me prejudice; i hope i can overcome that, and 'judge rightly' instead of by appearance.
And, bingo! I knew I wasn't asking the exact right question I wanted to ask, but this is the answer I needed. Thank you.

This made sense to me!

He targeted anyone he perceived as a believer. He hated God. Not much different than Nero.
Yes, but he was especially hateful of Jews and anything that sniffed 'Jewish'...re: Mein Kampf

It's also apparent there are some trolls. Ones who repeat themselves ad nauseam, pushing the same buttons of gospel error, are simply stirring a pot, to get attention. Not everything going on here is even genuine error. It seems that in our cyber age, we have wheat, tares and trolls.

Being a christian is a dangerous position to hold. It is easier for people to latch on to some "charismatic" teacher who seems to define everything. The mistake we all make, is often there are other perspectives or experiences that change everything.

When as a believer you come across people who disagree with your ideas or expression, the easiest thing is to say, an evil spirit, heresy, a doctrine of satan etc. than just accept the reality we all need to listen more and speak less.

I hold to one basic concept, truth exists no matter the source, so I am just interested is understanding the balances and get a reasonable compromise that works for me. I have been a member of an anglican church, bretheren, congregational, house church, baptist church, have had friends who have been catholic, charismatic, penticostal, reformed, liberal high church, gay immoral and apostate, but what matters to me is how I can love them in their circumstance.

I am sure the differences are more conceptual, and the common experiences closer in agreement, which means not taking it too seriously and realising most want so dearly to be "right" they are prepared to sacrifice their relationship with the Lord, which is just truly sad and empty.

Okay? But what did that have to do with my question or other responses? Again, "know your audience." This isn't a foreign town. This is a site where Christians and/or semi-respectful people come.
You never know who your audience is on any given thread. There are 10 times more who read the thread then actually respond with a post. There is always room for other aspects and variations of the OP, it depends on your frame of reference but the same principles apply and when someone if off topic, well, I guess you'll just have to ignore them or ask them to move on. It is just a chat site and if there are those who are in a life or death situations there will be those believers who can help and be profitable to them. You have an audience , so say on.

I apologize for teaching! It's what I do! I am a teacher by training and by experience, now a pastor. So yes, I try to post Scriptures, but sometimes my personal abhorrence of certain heretical doctrines overcomes me and I start teaching. Or preaching!

As for likes and rep points, they really don't protect you against anything. I had a wonderful friend here when I first arrived who taught me all kinds of things. She had more points than anyone in the forum by far. But apparently she broke a forum rule, and she was gone.

As for me, I try to answer posts with wisdom and discretion, pointing to God and to the Bible. If that means I am guilty of teaching too much, well, like I said, I apologize.

Wait... you weren't talking about me??? My bad! LOL

that's true, we do have trolls, properly.

but specifically, i don't think people that make long, well-formatted point-by-point soliloquies are just trying to push hot-buttons and stir up arguments.

we got trolls for sure (certain type of "tare" ? pure & simple "mockers" as Solomon called 'em ?) but i think OP is talking about a different stripe.

...ICan someone explain the logic of preaching at people who are most likely not the audience? I'm new, thus confused (again. lol) I suspect there is logic, but I'm just not getting it.
It's the same here as with any other online forum: there are people who need a stage, who like to vent etc... If you don't like their (often lengthy) posts, or being preached at, just move on: no one's forcing you to read that stuff.
