I haven't read all responses, but ones i have read most of you people seem to be real jerks about this idea. I don't care for the idea either, but at least the guy's heart is in a good place. Maybe a little misguided, but what about his motivations? He wants to encourage young people to read the bible.

Personally i'd like to see some of you drop the critical spirits and instead use guidance and love to help the OP consider a better direction to point his enthusiasm.

OP, while i don't agree with your idea, it's good to see you wanting to do something. Something big at that. Perhaps pray more and see if God can't move you in a better direction with the same zeal. Don't let the religious jerks bring you down.

Can't recall. I've only finished genesis so far. A lot of it takes play in Jersey tho.
And at the end of Genesis the locale is Cali and in the early 1900s.
Jersey is where Satan lives. Believe me, I could be an ass to say this but there's truth to it.

Something everyone is missing is that reading the Bible is NOT about the translation. It is about the illumination of the Holy Spirit!

I was was reading a modern Catholic version before I got saved and didn't understand a word if it. After I met the author of the book, Jesus Christ, the whole book made sense! I got a Protestant Bible shortly after and read it through about 20 times till that leather bound version fell apart!

Witness to the gospel, and let the Holy Spirit guide people into all truth.

PS I was young when I got saved!

Ok, so it's hardball time. Then OP, here is a piece of advice from a religious 'jerk', especially when you get to the last book.

Revelation 22:18-19 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Funny how you took that personally when i said i hadn't even read all responses. I wasn't even paying attention to who was being a jerk, just noticing how many people were. Yet you took it upon yourself to fall into that category. Hmm....
Then proceed to justify what you yourself apparently consider to be a 'jerk' view of your behavior being negative and critical, by quoting the bible.

And doesn't change what i said. People could have been nicer. Using positive guidance without having to put the person down.

it is a fun idea, but I don't think you should publish at as the bible if you change the places and rewrite it a lot.
It would make a interesting devotional book though.

A young man named David Åleskjær wrote a book called Asfaltevangeliet (loosely translated: the gospel of concrete),
in it, he presents the life of Jesus Christ, how it might have been if Jesus walked around the streets of Oslo. It is a strong message, but never presented as the bible.

There is NO Bible we can write to save even ONE soul.... God is the messiah and saviour, and HE will save WHOM He wants. God gave us the TEACHING to give to ALL people. No one is so special to have a bble translated so he or she can prepent. If they do not want to read the KJV, there is NO Bible they want to read. No one can present God in a different manner than Jesus presented God. And if we start to make the Bible more understandible it will have personal opinions in the Bible we write. The bible is not for interpretation or understnading but for REVELATION by God Himself. I found when my heart strted to know God the Word started to OPEN up. And when sin is thick and regular, then the WORD closes down. The Spirit of the WORD love a repenting heart, and HE reveals much truth so he can MAKE THE SINNER FREE... How? By letting the sinner KNOW THE TRUTH... What is the TRUTH (God's Word is the Truth) John 17:17.

God aid you shall know the Truth and the truth shall make you free.... Father sanctify them in your Truth, Your WORD is TRUTH.... Rather take time and read the Bible with the youth, and let them use dictionaries to know What God teach, and if they listen AND DO what God teach it will be revealed to them, ALL the depths of God... The Holy Spirit loves to reveal scripture to seeking hearts. NO other translation is needed, He doe it perfectly in the KJV.

God's Word is inspired by HIM and is profitable for all these things... All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Even many translations fail to show the ONE doctrine that harmonize with ALL scripture. Trust me this book is given by inspiration of God and should not be messed with. Just compare 2 Peter 1:21 in various versions and you will see how DEEP this book reach. KJV is fine even my ten yearold, AFRIKAANS daughter understands it with a little bit of assisance with a dictionary and loving parents teaching them as God said they should.

What the words make difficult, the love of God makes easy. It is not the words that is difficult, it is the unclean heart that cannot understand. Children is not foiled up by false techings, the one and only TRUTH is well accepted by them. I find to remove old false doctrines is way more difficult that to teach the TRUTH to NEW Christians. It is the dirt and weed of false teachings that makes the KJV diificult to understand, but on the heart of a NEW Christian it falls and produce fruit 30 60 and 100 fold in no time.... I am one of thosr that was unspiled by false teachings and the KJV is just fine. No other Bible is needed, and I am also Afrikaans with English as second language.

Exactly. The Queen James Bible is a wonderful idea. If you are LGBT.

It's been years since I read it, so I forgot most of it :p If I remember I'll bring it with me when I go home for the summer I remember it as modernizing all the aspects of Jesus' life, while staying true to the message of the story. Jesus hangs out with the prostitutes, drug addicts and criminals, but neither the government nor the religious leaders like this. A movie was made at some point. it might be on youtube, but I doubt it has subtitles

So I am writing an updated version of the Bible. I'm starting with Genesis tho. Which i finished, just needs edited a bit.
But I need some advice.
Like...I want to make it a bit more accessible to young people. Such as keeping the stories the same, but changing the locations to US locations.
Also attempting to make it a little more entertaining...
But i dont want to lose the original stories at all.

So any advice or anyone interested. Let me know..
By Whose Authority are you rewriting the Holy Word of God?

Writing an updated version of the Bible. Advice?
The bible is not, nor ever has been, out of date. It takes a fool that doesn't know God to think it can be improved on.
Proverbs 30:6 "Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar."
Revelation 22:19 "And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."
Deuteronomy 12:32 "What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it."
2 Peter 3:16 "As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction."

The bible is meant to be understood more as we grow in God. It is impossible for someone to understand all of it without having some of it revealed to us by the Spirit. Unlearned and unstable people cannot get it right. It has to come from God, not the simple reading of His word alone. You may be earnest in your endeavor, but you are doing no one any favors. We have the bible as God intended for us to have it.
Never, ever, think you can improve on God's work.

What planet are you on.....or should I ask what church to you attend and what Bible have you read that would ever make you think that God would approve of such blasphemy??? Seriously....did you even ASK THE LORD if HE wanted you to do such a foolish thing?

It could be a good way for the op to learn the bible.

Everyone else is doing it, he may as well jump in as well. How many different translations are there now?

I voluntarily took that label whether you directed it at me or not. And I will continue to take that label whenever one starts pontificating how the rest of us plebs should carry on...unless of course they are a mod..

If the promised land is Hawaii, and Egypt is California, the parting of the sea segment will be epic.

In all seriousness I'd avoid this. I think Joseph Smith tried to Americanize the gospel and that got him in a load of trouble.

A graphic novel that sticks to the real characters and geography might be a better option.
