Repentance and faith is our part.
In other words we have to forsake self, pick up our cross and follow Jesus.
It is in yielding to the Spirit of life in Jesus Christ that the righteousness of God will be manifested through us.
The implanted word saves the soul and we are cleansed by the blood of Christ. We access both through laying aside our rebellion and receiving the Spirit of Christ and then are to remain steadfast in an enduring faith unto the end.
Jas 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
Jas 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
2Pe 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
2Pe 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
2Pe 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2Pe 1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
2Pe 1:6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
2Pe 1:7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
2Pe 1:8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2Pe 1:9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
2Pe 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
2Pe 1:11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Your part is to stay in submission to God and his Word, God's part is to lead you as he is the great Shepherd

James 4:10 "tell us to Humble ourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up"
What better way then thru prayer? Acknowledging your sinful state of imperfection, asking God to forgive you of such sins and to lead you into truth and understanding, into Righteousness into being transformed into the image of Christ amen
James 4:7 "tells us to Submit ourselves unto God. Resist the devil,and he will flee from you"
What better way then thru reading our bibles? Gods holy word? Did he not tell us to do so? "My son, forget not my law;but let thine heart keep my commandments" Proverbs 3:1, It also goes on to say in verse 2 "For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee", We know according to John 10:10 " The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they
might have it more abundantly."
So when submit ourselves to God by reading our bibles daily, forgetting not his law or commandments, by being doers of the word as well as hearers, James says, resist the devil and he will flee, thus adding Length of days and long life and peace, because as we just learned, Satan wants to kill steal and destroy!
Fellowship is also equally important,

And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

Just like everyone elses; being loving in every moment. Making the God-decision in every moment. The moment is all we have really.
He'll give you what he's planned for you and it will come when it comes and wehn it comes you'll know it's there and when it goes there'll be something else, all you have to do is live in the moment and love in the moment.
