I hope all is well and you've enjoyed your weekend and stayed indoors keeping cool in as much as I did. This weekend, I had to work but where I live in Maryland there's a heat wave going on, so I kept myself cool.
I have some bad news...the bad news is that I have been canned as the breakfast attendant at the hotel I worked, and here's what happened...
I came in to the hotel earlier this morning (July 25, 2016)to be cross-trained to work as a front desk associate, only to be greeted by the head of the breakfast attendant crew and the front desk manager. After I came in, the front desk manager spoke to me. She said that although she was off on Saturday, she had received a number of complaints about how the breakfast dining area wasn't open on time at 6AM, I didn't replenish the food for the next breakfast attendant to cook with on Sunday morning, the kitchen was a mess, the utensils were not washed, and the cereal containers were not filled for the guests to have on Sunday morning, and the dining room was just a mess, which was not true!!!
Okay...let me get some things cleared up...the last guests have left the dining room at 10AM, and that's when breakfast is over. After that, I took a small break and got myself something to eat. After that, I had to start cleaning up until everything was done and I get to go home afterward.
With that being said, I have washed the utensils, cleaned down the counter tops, wiped down the tables, swept all of the crumbs and foodstuffs from underneath the tables, vacuumed the floor, mopped up the kitchen, mopped up the floor where the counter tops are, restocked all drinking cups, plastic utensils, bowls, plates, napkins, restocked the frozen foodstuffs into the kitchen's refrigerator, restocked the mini fridge with yogurt, butter and cream cheese, restocked the oatmeal, teas, hot chocolate, sugar, Splenda, Equal and Sweet N' Low, washed all of the utensils that were in the sink room, gave the dining room a once-over, took out the trash, gave the dining room a once-over to make sure everything was fine, turned off the tv, the lights and left for the day. Doing all of that by myself took 4 hours.
Mind you, when I worked as a breakfast attendant, I worked all by myself. I was responsible for opening and closing the dining room on time, restocking, refilling foodstuffs, cleaning up, etc. So I had no other breakfast attendant helping me, which is why it would take at least 4 hours cleaning up afterwards.
As I was trying to explain this to the head of the breakfast attendant crew, who is very racist, she wouldn't let me get a word in so that I can explain to her what happened and that dug up under my skin like a superbug!!! I was so angry. Next, the front desk manager says that she's going to terminate me from the breakfast attendant position and she will call me at the end of the week so that I can work at the front desk. I don't know if she will call me, but if she doesn't call me by the end of the week, then I will call her and see what she says.
The front desk manager told me that she can tell that I was unhappy working down in the dining room. She also told me that it was the owner of the hotel's fault as well. To be honest, I was unhappy working as a breakfast attendant. I had to clean up all by myself, take out the trash, and the head of the breakfast attendant crew expects me to be done with all of that by 11:30AM??? Oh please! Let me tell you all how I got the job in the first place:
It was July 11 when my cousin drove an hour away from her house down to see me and help me try to find jobs in my town. She pulled up to the hotel and I walked up to the front desk asking if there were any opportunities. I was told that there's a breakfast attendant position, so I filled out the application and handed it back to the front desk manager. She then handed it back to the owner, who then came out of her office to talk to me. She barely spoke to me about the position as to what I will be doing as a breakfast attendant and all, she didn't even do an on-the-spot interview with me, it just seem that she was desperate to find someone to fill up the breakfast attendant position, and just like that she hired me with no interview and that's unprofessional.
So, I got canned as a breakfast attendant, but I hope the front desk manager calls me to get me trained to work the front desk because she says that she needs someone to work the front desk for her. At the same time, I am still going to be looking for other jobs so that I can get some extra money.
