Does anyone think there is something wrong with Cory Asbury's word choices in this song? Do you think there is a deeper spiritual concern? Gathering information from users for an article on the subject. Would love your thoughts!

Thanks! :)

Absolutely not. This song speaks very much the way I see God's unconditional love for each and every one of us.

"Before I spoke a word, you were singing over me...
"Before I took a breath, You breathed your life in me"

To me this is like a very loving father that stands over his sleeping child, singing a lullaby...

"The overwhelming, never-ending reckless love of God"

Again, a description of the deepest love... abandoned/reckless...love that has not a care...no limit.

"It chases me down, fights til I'm found, leaves the 99"

To me, the Shepherd will leave all 99 of his flock to find just the one that is lost and missing. There is biblical reference here. You better believe the Good Shepherd will leave the 99 for the one that is lost.

" I couldn't earn it, I don't deserve it, still You give Yourself away"

I can't earn it, I dont deserve it...but His gift of eternal life, salvation...is free.

"When I was Your foe, still Your love fought for me.
When I felt no worth, You paid it all for me."

When the Jews refused to see Jesus as the Messiah and we were sinners...His enemy...His foes...
Jesus resisted temptation from the devil's tricks and lies, He fought against it. When He took every stripe on His body, every kick, every punch, ever bit of spittle, every single piece of flesh ripped from His body, the mockery, the hatred, the burden of carrying those sins and that cross to Calvary...the shoulder ripped from it's joint with the weight of my sins? And He fought. The nails, the look on His mother's face...He could have stopped it all! He suffered His death to test the veil and conquer death and defeat it...
His mother, His disciples, those that did believe He was who He said...I'm sure felt unworthy as watched Him suffer and die...but He still paid the price for them..for me...for you. I don't know about you...but it sure makes me love Him for being so selfless, reckless in His love for my unworthiness.

"There's no Shadow You won't light up, mountain You won't climb up...there's no wall You won't kick down, lie You won't tear down, coming after me"

This just reminds me that His love is unstoppable...and when He begins a work in us, He promises to finish it til the end! What an awesome promise. That is reckless love. And there is One we call Father. That is God. No one comes to the Father without going through the Son, Jesus Christ.

So...sorry no. I see problems with this song or these lyrics. Great job Cory Asbury!
