This particular addiction can be very hard to break. I've learned that the hard way, from experience. (Feel free to check out my personal testimony on this issue: http://christianchat.com/testimonies/56064-work-progress.html ) This post is quite lengthy, but worth the read.

First and foremost, it's important to cut yourself off from the source as much as you can. Get away from the computer, device, or whatever it is you use- and in the meantime, try to occupy yourself with other things instead. Especially try to spend more time with God. An accountability partner is just about essential. That support can be a huge help.

This is definitely easier said than done. But no one said it was going to be easy.
You want to be free of it? Then you've gotta keep at it. Keep fighting it.

These are some things I've learned over the years, that can curb that temptation. I hope it helps :)

These are some of the songs I've found to be very encouraging.

Here is an article describing the addiction cycle. This really opened my eyes when I first saw it. The key is to try to break this cycle.
Breaking the Cycle of Porn Addiction

This next part is part of a bible study I went to a while ago. I saved these particular parts and it's been very helpful.

Exodus 20: 3-6

3 “You shall have no other gods before[a] me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.

5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

What has our struggle have to do with idolatry?
Addiction steps in and takes the place of God, as our way of escape, as the bringer of peace, as a place of safety, and a satisfier of our souls. It’s our high. It’s our Utopia.

When we create an idol in our hearts, when we trust in our idol for escape, temporary peace, we become like them. We are stuck. We have trouble hearing from God, seeing the truth in His Word.
Instead of looking like our Lord, we are like our own creation – a stuck idol.

What is the solution? Instead of turning to our idol for help in times of emotional need, we need to topple that idol from off our altar – and trust in the Lord – he promises to be our help and shield.

Are you ready to topple that idol?

Heavenly Father,
I have broken the first commandment and placed an idol on the altar of my heart.
I confess it as sin, and ask you to forgive me.
I push the idol off the altar. I break it. I smash it.
I break all my agreements with my idol and renounce any connection with it in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
Lord, I ask for cleansing in this area of my life. Wash this area of my heart clean in the name of Jesus.
I ask that you and you alone occupy the altar of my heart. Fill me.
According to your promise in Psalm 115, I will trust you in times of temptation and pain, and look to you as my help and shield.
Thank you, Lord.
In Jesus name, I pray.
Amen.

Habits of many years can take a while to break, even with a renouncing of the sin. If you find you are drifting back into old habits of thought or action, just confess it to God, ask forgiveness, and repent again. Renounce it and then go on. Don’t beat up on yourself – it’s a process, but the work was done when the prayer was prayed. Unlike an idol, our God has excellent hearing.

Some quotes...

"It is true we are not worthy even to be saved by the Lord. It is only by his grace and his love that we are saved – anything we can offer Jesus in return for his love or salvation is worthless. Would it be helpful to counter the lie that you are not worthy to be in relationship, with the simple statement of agreement – No, I am not worthy (in a spiritual sense), but like my relationship with Jesus, love and grace overcome all worthiness."

"You can get into a trap of trying to come up with reasons why you are worthy for anything, any job, any ministry, any relationship. Maybe the best way to consider it is to acknowledge that worthiness isn’t a valid concept, but love and grace are. Worthiness measures exactly what? How good we are? How pure we are? How much we have accomplished? If that is worthiness, we will never achieve it. A mother quickly bonds with her newborn baby, falling in love with it, willing to lose her life to save it. What has the baby done to be worthy of that? Worthiness is endowed by the love of the other person in the relationship, not us."

"The more I think about worthiness, the more I realize it is a non-issue. It is masquerading as a lie. It’s really a wrong turn. Condemnation, as you know, never comes from the Holy Spirit. When you really “get” that you aren’t worthy in the true sense, how can you feel condemned for it? It’s like feeling condemned for not being a snowflake."

"The enemy is going to come back at you for a while – or maybe it will re-occur for quite a long time… You learned that if you recognize the feeling for what it is, refuse to get near the computer, pray and disregard it, it has to flee. This is huge but it seems simple."

And that's all of it! Keep at it, press on, stay strong. Remember you're never alone in this. Take comfort in the fact that you will beat this, with God's help.:D
