"Zech. 4:1 And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep."
There is a greater meaning here than waking someone up. Those who don't have knowledge of the LORD are described as living in darkness. They are also described as being asleep or slumbering.
To be "wakened out of his sleep," is to say, turn away from the darkness and learn of me.
"Prov. 6:9-11 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man."
Here, those without knowledge are not only described as being asleep. They're also described as being lazy; and as living in poverty without the riches of God's grace; and their walking away from his goodness as being robbed.
"Prov. 19:15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger."
This means if you are lazy and don't learn of me, you'll live in darkness; and since you aren't moving towards me, you'll suffer want.
"Prov. 20:13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread."
This means that if you are satisfied with this life and choose darkness instead of me, you will come to great want. Learn of me and I will give you abundant life.
"John 6:33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world."
